    Abstract: This open access book is one of the first academic works to comprehensively analyse the dilemma concerning global content governance on social media. To date, no single human rights standard exists across all social media platforms, allowing private companies to set their own rules, values and parameters. On the one hand, this normative autonomy raises serious concerns, primarily around whether companies should be permitted to establish the rules governing free speech online. On the other hand, if social media platforms simply adopted international law standards, they would be compelled to operate a choice on which model to follow, and put in place mechanisms to uphold these general standards. This book examines this topic from a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing from the expertise of the authors in law, political science and communication studies. It provides a carefully reconstructed theory of the content governance dilemma, as well as pragmatic solutions for companies and policymakers.     Abstract: Seit dem Mord an George Floyd durch den Polizeieingriff in den Vereinigten Staaten im Mai 2020 und der daraus erwachsenen (Social Media-)Bewegung #blacklivesmatter hat auch die Beschäftigung mit den verschiedenen Formen von Rassismus in Deutschland zugenommen. Konnte der Begriff vor wenigen Jahren in wissenschaftlichen wie öffentlichen Diskursen weitgehend nur schwierig oder selten genutzt werden, hat er sich inzwischen hierzulande auch als Gegenbegriff zur globalen Wirkmächtigkeit rechter Ideologien, die besonders Identitätskategorien zur Legitimation mörderischer Gewalt heranziehen, sowie im Kontext globaler Diversifizierungsmaßnahmen im Diskursmainstream durchgesetzt. Dieser Erfolg des Begriffs lässt auch die filmischen Produktionen zu Themen von Menschenfeindlichkeit, die auf Repräsentationskategorien basieren, in einem neuen Licht erscheinen. Filme zu Themen des Rassismus versuchen, Aufklärungsarbeit im Sinne anti-rassistischer Praxis zu leisten, während beispielsweise propagandistische Videos rechter und dschihadistischer Kreise zur (re-)produktiven Verhandlung von Rassismus beitragen. Andererseits lassen sich Filme, die scheinbar nichts mit Rassismus zu tun haben, bei einem genaueren analytischen Blick sehr wohl als Verstärkungs-, Reproduktions- oder Verschleierungsakteure von Rassismen verstehen. So sind Filme immer schon im Sinne von (Un-)Sichtbarkeitsmaschinen dazu geeignet, soziale Verhältnisse zu veräußerlichen und so ungedachte Zusammenhänge zu denken. In dieser argumentativen Bi-Perspektivität – Sichtbarwerden der Rassismusdiskurse und Filme als Sichtbarkeitsmedien sozialer Verhältnisse – geht der vorliegende Sammelband Diskursformen des Rassismus, seiner Filmkulturen und Möglichkeiten des (anti-rassistischen) Widerstands besonders/aber nicht nur im deutschsprachigen Kontext nach. Daran schließen sich folgende Fragen an: Wie sieht der Zusammenhang von (fiktionalen) Filmen und Formen des Rassismus in Film-kulturen aus?     Abstract: Inwieweit das Programmangebot der Volkshochschulen die Medienkompetenz und digitale Teilhabe der Teilnehmenden fördert, untersucht Jan Hellriegel in seiner Dissertation. Die Arbeit basiert auf einer Fallstudie mit vier Volkshochschulen in Rheinland-Pfalz. Kernstück ist eine Programmanalyse unter dem Aspekt der Medienkompetenzförderung. Zudem wurden anhand von Interviews mit VHS-Leitungen und hauptamtlich pädagogischen Mitarbeitenden Faktoren ermittelt, die die Programmplanung beeinflussen. In den Ergebnissen wird deutlich, dass dem Auftrag, die Medienkompetenz der Teilnehmenden zu fördern in den VHS-Programmen nicht angemessen Rechnung getragen werden kann. Bezüge finden sich vorrangig im Kontext beruflicher Mediennutzung, während eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Medien und digitaler Transformation nur selten Platz im Programm findet. Hier Schwerpunkte zu setzen, ist ein bislang nicht erfüllter, aber notwendiger Bildungsauftrag der VHS zur digitalen Teilhabe für alle in einer demokratisch verfassten Gesellschaft. Gründe für diese Defizite sieht Hellriegel unter anderem in der Abhängigkeit der Volkshochschulen von Teilnahmegebühren. Mit diesem Anspruch geht die Abweisung eines Modells von Lehrer:innenbildung einher, das sich in einer unhinterfragten Übernahme etablierter Praxisroutinen erschöpft. Eine anspruchsvolle Reflexion pädagogischer Praxis wird im dominanten Diskurs mit einer distanzierten, den Reflexionsgegenstand objektivierenden Beobachtendenperspektive assoziiert, die einen Ausstieg aus unmittelbaren Praxiszusammenhängen und einen Zugriff auf wissenschaftliche Wissensbestände erlaubt. In empirischen Zugriffen auf Reflexionssituationen, die in pädagogischen Praxiskontexten situiert sind, lässt sich eine derartige Beobachtendenperspektive jedoch kaum nachzeichnen - das Reflexionsideal steht also in Diskrepanz zum Praxisphänomen. Diese Diskrepanz führt vielfach zu der Interpretation, dass pädagogische Praktiker:innen keine anspruchsvolle Reflexion ihrer Praxis leisten würden. Wird Reflexion in pädagogischen Praxiskontexten jedoch selbst als theoriefähiges Phänomen mit eigenen Ansprüchen in den Blick genommen, eröffnet sich eine Lesart jenseits einer bloßen Defizitzuschreibung, die ethischen Dimensionen praktischer pädagogischer Reflexion einen systematischen Stellenwert einräumen kann. Das Abweichen von einer möglichst distanzierten Beobachtendenperspektive kann so nicht nur als Verfehlung betrachtet, sondern auch als Moment des Ansprechbar-Werdens für pädagogische Verantwortungserfahrungen figuriert werden. Diese Arbeit verfolgt das Anliegen, praktische pädagogische Reflexion zu (re-)konzeptualisieren und darüber Impulse für einen kontext- und gegenstandssensiblen Reflexionsbegriff zu erarbeiten. Die Annäherung an Reflexion erfolgt über eine Untersuchung von Unterrichts- nachgesprächen im Kontext der zweiten Phase der Lehrer:innenbildung. Gesprächsanalytisch unterschiedene Reflexionsmodi bilden die Grundlage für eine traditions- und alteritätstheoretisch gestützte Interpretation praktischer pädagogischer Reflexion, die Anschlüsse an erziehungstheoretische Begründungsmotive der Reflexionsbedürftigkeit pädagogischer Praxis auslotet.     Abstract: Aus der mangelnden digitalen Kompetenz von (Berufsschul)Lehrkräften, Lehramtsstudierenden und Schüler:innen ergibt sich ein "digitaler Teufelskreis". Der Autor entwickelt, erprobt und evaluiert in seiner Dissertation aus einem Design-Based Research Ansatz ein Konzept für ein Onlineseminar innerhalb der beruflichen Lehramtsausbildung an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen. Zentraler Baustein des Seminars ist die Eigenproduktion von Erklärvideos, die digitale Kompetenzen niedrigschwellig fördert und zur Sensibilisierung für das Thema Digitalisierung im Handlungsfeld Schule beiträgt. Aus den Ergebnissen der praxisbezogenen Studie im Kontext des Studienstandorts Gießen leitet der Autor allgemeine Gelingensbedingungen und Handlungsempfehlungen für die digitalisierungsbezogene Professionalisierung angehender Berufsschullehrkräfte ab.

It does so by analysing why media and information literacy (MIL) is proposed as a solution for addressing the current information crisis. Questioning why MIL is commonly believed to wield such power, the book throws into sharp relief several paradoxes that are built into common understandings of such literacies.     Abstract: During the Russian Revolution and Civil War, amateur theater groups sprang up in cities across the country. Workers, peasants, students, soldiers, and sailors provided entertainment ranging from improvisations to gymnastics and from propaganda sketches to the plays of Chekhov. In Revolutionary Acts, Lynn Mally reconstructs the history of the amateur stage in Soviet Russia from 1917 to the height of the Stalinist purges. Her book illustrates in fascinating detail how Soviet culture was transformed during the new regime's first two decades in power. Of all the arts, theater had a special appeal for mass audiences in Russia, and with the coming of the revolution it took on an important role in the dissemination of the new socialist culture. Mally's analysis of amateur theater as a space where performers, their audiences, and the political authorities came into contact enables her to explore whether this culture emerged spontaneously "from below" or was imposed by the revolutionary elite. She shows that by the late 1920s, Soviet leaders had come to distrust the initiatives of the lower classes, and the amateur theaters fell increasingly under the guidance of artistic professionals. Within a few years, state agencies intervened to homogenize repertoire and performance style, and with the institutionalization of Socialist Realist principles, only those works in a unified Soviet canon were presented

    Abstract: This book offers a comprehensive overview of the most important theoretical visions on film, television, and new media The works of the legendary film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock that cover an extensive period have had a huge influence on film and television history. The study investigated seven different academic fields to discover disciplinary conceptions of what types of scholarly production count as ""owned.""     Abstract: Dieses zweibändige Werk beleuchtet erstmals umfassend die Geschichte der Privatdozentur an der Georg August-Universität in Göttingen von ihrer Frühzeit bis zum Erlass der ersten selbständigen »Habilitationsordnung« im Jahr 1831. Eingehend untersucht sie eine Stichprobe der Privatdozenten des SS 1812. Damals lehrten über 70% der Privatdozenten ohne Habilitation auf Basis ihrer Promotion als lesende Doktoren oder als Magister legens. Der erste Band bietet eine detaillierte Untersuchung des bisher nicht erforschten Promotionswesens der vier Fakultäten und geht auf die Disputationspraxis ein. Wie promovierte man in einer Zeit, in der alles auf Latein abgemacht wurde: die Thesen und/oder Dissertation, das Rigorosum des Examens und die Inauguraldisputation? Für die Habilitation war nur eine weitere Disputation notwendig. Zwar war die Georgia Augusta um 1800 die wohl bedeutendste Universität ihrer Zeit, aber ihre Regelungen zur Promotion und Habilitation und die eingehend untersuchte »Observanz« der Prüfungspraxis waren nicht selten zweierlei. Die Arbeit beruht vor allem auf den Akten des Universitätsarchivs und führt daher viele Aspekte des alltäglichen Mit- und Gegeneinanders an der Georgia Augusta auf, die im ausführlichen Personen- und Sachregister aufgeführt sind. Abgerundet werden die Einsichten in den akademischen Alltag durch den Blick auf andere Universitäten: von Salamanca, zu dessen Promotionsbräuchen auch der Stierkampf gehörte, bis hin zur Erfurter Universität, an der man eine Promotion kaufen konnte und darüber hinaus auf W. von Humboldts Neugründung, die sich 1810 am östlichen Horizont zeigte

    Abstract: Die Darstellung der Institution »ältere Privatdozentur« im ersten Teil wird im zweiten Band durch biographische Skizzen von 32 Privatdozenten des Sommersemesters 1812 ergänzt. Sie verdeutlichen, dass die Privatdozentur nur für wenige eine Pflanzschule künftiger Professoren war, als die sie der Göttinger Orientalist Michaelis 1773 bezeichnete - nur sechs Privatdozenten erreichten eine Professur. Der Regelfall war ein nicht habilitierter Privatlehrer ohne Berufungsaussicht, der mit seinem Zweitberuf den gehaltlosen Privatdozenten in sich ernährte. Das Karrierespektrum in der gewählten Stichprobe ist weit gefächert: es reicht von dem bedeutenden Arabistikprofessor G. W. Freytag an der Universität Bonn bis zum örtlichen Notar J. G. Quentin, der am Rande des akademischen Proletariats stand, bis hin zu dem jung dahingegangenen Autor Ernst Schulze, der für Cäcilie Tychsen einfühlsame Poesie schrieb und posthum zu einem Lieblingsdichter seiner Zeit wurde. Die Stichprobe schließt den Friseurgesellen Ch. Focke ein, der sich zum Mathematikdozenten aufschwang, sowie den Musicus J. N. Forkel, einen Mitbegründer der Musikwissenschaft.
