    Abstract: Sl Se c’è una cosa che abbiamo sempre, letteralmente, sotto il naso, è lo smartphone. Ed è normale credere, dunque, che sappiamo cosa sia. Ma è davvero così? Per scoprirlo, 11 antropologi hanno trascorso 16 mesi in varie comunità in Africa, Asia, Europa e Sud America per osservare il modo in cui gli anziani utilizzano lo smartphone, e la loro ricerca ha rivelato che si tratta di una tecnologia rivolta a tutti, non solo ai giovani. Lo Smartphone Globale presenta i risultati frutto di questo progetto di ricerca comparativa di respiro globale. Gli smartphone sono diventati tanto un luogo in cui viviamo, quanto un dispositivo di ‘opportunismo perpetuo’ da cui non ci separiamo mai. Gli autori hanno dimostrato che lo smartphone è molto più di un ‘contenitore di app’, concentrandosi sulle differenze tra ciò che le persone dicono sugli smartphone e il modo in cui li usano. Nessun dispositivo aveva mai raggiunto un tale livello di ‘trasformabilità’ – trasformabilità che si concretizza nella capacità di assimilare rapidamente i nostri valori personali. Per poterlo comprendere, dunque, dobbiamo tener presente un’ampia gamma di sfumature nazionali e culturali, quali la comunicazione visiva in Cina e Giappone, i trasferimenti di denaro sotto forma di credito telefonico in Camerun e in Uganda, e l’accesso a informazioni mediche in Cina e Irlanda, oltre alle diverse traiettorie della terza età ad Al Quds, in Brasile e in Italia. Solo allora potremo sapere davvero cos’è uno smartphone e capire appieno l’impatto che ha sulla vita delle persone in tutto il mondo

    Abstract: This book presents an overview of the results of the first standardised survey of services of open child and youth work in Switzerland, which was conducted in 2018 as a sub-project of the project Language Regions of the umbrella organisation Open Child and Youth Work Switzerland (DOJ/AFAJ) and other cooperation partners and was published in the three national languages of Switzerland which are German, French and Italian. A total of 620 services of open child and youth work, in which at least one permanently employed and/or paid professional worked, took part in the survey. In the book, the following aspects of the field of action are described in an overview and then contextualised: Types of services, opportunities for participation, quality work, professional orientation, financing, sponsorship and governance and management structures, statements on the target group, clients and staff, as well as on spatial or financial resources, founding year, opening hours etc., but also assessments of the professionals on specific topics. The results were also compared between the different linguistic regions and in the three different types of communes "urban", "intermediate" and "rural". The results of the study show a picture of a differentiated and complex field of action, illustrate achievements to date and point out the potential for future development

    Abstract: "With the evolution of today’s educational contexts, teacher education is becoming increasingly important into European political discussion, in relation to its ability to improve the results of student learning. The need to confront new changes clearly signifies that the professionalism of teachers cannot be limited to competencies and skills learning, however, it does require new strategic dimensions of professional activation, oriented towards better identifying personal goals and strategies to be achieved. The text re-draws the paradigm of the continuing teacher professional development by integrating the capability approach with the models of competencies. Starting from the analysis of European policies on teacher education, the text carry out an experimental research into pre-school settings to explore the importance of individual choice: throught the creation of innovative research tools and a self-training methodology, pre-school teachers involved improved their self-determine agency and better qualified professional development.     Abstract: Serious illness prevents many students from attending school on a regular basis and can lead to long-term absence from the classroom. The consequent isolation impedes socialization and educational exchange between homebound students and their schoolmates, as well as interaction with their teachers. Moreover, these students face serious difficulties when they eventually manage to return to school. All these factors slow down homebound students’ learning progress and weaken their sense of belonging to their peer group. In response to these issues, Italy’s Ministry of Education (MIUR), National Research Council (CNR), and the TIM Foundation set up a project in 2013 named TRIS (Networked Technologies and Socio-educational Inclusion). The main aim of the project is to develop a flexible and scalable intervention model for integrating homebound leaners. This is based on active and engaging learning approaches and is designed for application to a wide variety of long–term absence situations. The main pillar of the project is the so-called “Inclusive Hybrid Classroom”, a special blending of physical and digital learning spaces. By facilitating direct engagement in class activities, irrespective of the students’ actual location, this kind of classroom heightens the sense for everyone that the homebound student is actively present in the classroom

Variasjon i undervisningen er viktig for at elevene skal føle mestring og dermed få lyst til å lære mer. Et viktig grunnlag for økt lærelyst finner vi i engasjement. Den engasjerte læreren får ofte mye og fortjent oppmerksomhet. Men det er først når elevene blir engasjerte i læringa at de gode læringsutbyttene kommer. I Den engasjerte eleven belyser vi hvordan vi gjennom undrende, utforskende og aktiviserende undervisning kan føre til engasjerte elever.     Abstract: As the title of this treatise indicates, the topic is communication about quality. The author explores the general possibilities and limits of linguistic communication regarding the quality of grade school concerts, with specific concerts as her observational data. The crucial question is where to draw the line between what can be expressed verbally and what cannot when it comes to communicating about quality in this context. The point of departure for the author’s exploration is the noticeable tension that exists between different participants in The Cultural Rucksack (DKS) initiative and the school concert arena. Other researchers have explored this issue, but their contributions do not converge regarding the level of tension and the content of the different stances (cf. Borgen & Brandt 2006; Breivik & Christophersen 2014; Holdhus 2014). When Music Makes Sense aims particularly at clarifying the latter question, i.e., illuminating the specific content of the different stances. The lines of conflict and accord are made more apparent and palpable, and previous research is partly amended. This applies notably to the pupils own opinions on quality, as the treatise shows that they have more divergent opinions than what had been noted in previous research on DKS

    Abstract: Norway is a leading country in the world when it comes to not prioritizing algebra in school mathematics, the mathematical language many students will need for further education and professions. Analysis of data from TIMSS, TIMSS Advanced and other international comparative studies have concluded that this result is consistent across 20 years of research. Norwegian students perform well in domains such as statistics/data, and alarmingly low in algebra. This conclusion is based on data from all levels in school: Primary school, lower secondary school, upper secondary school, and teacher education. The international studies indicate that East Asian, Eastern European and Latin European countries prioritize algebra more strongly than Norway or other Nordic and English-speaking countries. Several of the countries performing well in algebra, also seem to have some sort of balance between teaching algebra and teaching statistics, while there is a huge difference between the student scores on these domains in Norway. It almost seems as though ?students learn statistics instead of learning algebra?. The importance of taking into account the type of mathematical content which is tested in different studies before drawing conclusions, is also addressed in the book. For instance, PISA mathematics is compared to TIMSS grade 8 mathematics when it comes to mathematical theory involvement. On the other hand, it is emphasized that it is necessary to have information from different studies to make valid conclusions concerning mathematics in schools. The importance of cooperation between countries all over the world in developing school mathematics, with countries learning from each other, is also discussed. The book is a result of cooperation between researchers at the Department of teacher education and school research (ILS) and the Department of mathematics, both at the University of Oslo, and school teachers in an upper secondary school. The results are discussed from a teacher education perspective, a school teacher perspective and from the perspective of the national curriculum for schools in Norway. Some of the chapters in the book are devoted to going through all the test items in TIMSS Advanced 2015 which can be published, and it is described how these items can be used both by teachers in school and in teacher education at universities

    Abstract: As the title of this treatise indicates, the topic is communication about quality. The author explores the general possibilities and limits of linguistic communication regarding the quality of grade school concerts, with specific concerts as her observational data. The crucial question is where to draw the line between what can be expressed verbally and what cannot when it comes to communicating about quality in this context. The point of departure for the author?s exploration is the noticeable tension that exists between different participants in The Cultural Rucksack (DKS) initiative and the school concert arena. Other researchers have explored this issue, but their contributions do not converge regarding the level of tension and the content of the different stances (cf. Borgen & Brandt 2006; Breivik & Christophersen 2014; Holdhus 2014). When Music Makes Sense aims particularly at clarifying the latter question, i.e., illuminating the specific content of the different stances. The lines of conflict and accord are made more apparent and palpable, and previous research is partly amended. This applies notably to the pupils own opinions on quality, as the treatise shows that they have more divergent opinions than what had been noted in previous research on DKS

Il contributo che offre la traduzione di questo volume consiste nel mettere a disposizione di tutti gli addetti ai lavori (insegnanti, formatori, studiosi, ricercatori, decisori politici) e di tutte le persone interessate una grande ricchezza di dati come quelli del Rapporto OCSE, introdotti e commentati con particolare attenzione alla situazione italiana. L’intenzione che guida questo lavoro è quella di fornire una fonte attendibile con la quale ribadire, ancora una volta, che spendere in ricerca e istruzione significa investire e che gli investimenti ben condotti, in questo campo, hanno ritorni significativi non soltanto dal punto di vista economico.     Abstract: Dopo anni di dibattito sulla presenza degli studenti di cittadinanza non italiana nel sistema scolastico, i tempi sono maturi per aprire le prospettive di studio e di intervento della pedagogia interculturale anche al mondo accademico. Avanguardia dello stesso multiculturalismo, con una presenza straniera che da sempre l’ha strutturalmente segnata, seppur esigua al confronto con altri Paesi, l’università si trova oggi a rispondere a nuove sfide, che partono da una ridefinizione, quantitativa e qualitativa, della popolazione studentesca di cittadinanza non italiana: accanto alla figura più classica dello studente internazionale, che sceglie l’Italia come meta dei suoi studi e che vi arriva ponendo questo come suo obiettivo prioritario, si afferma oggi la presenza di quegli studenti, figli delle migrazioni, che si affacciano al mondo accademico dopo un’esperienza di scolarizzazione e di inserimento sociale non sempre semplice e lineare. Il volume, oltre a inquadrare gli scenari generali riferiti alla società e alla città multiculturale, all’internazionalizzazione degli studi, documenta un lavoro di ricerca pedagogica, con aperture anche alle scienze sociali e geografiche, svolto nell’Università dell’Aquila. L’indagine sul campo ha mirato a ricostruire i background, i percorsi accademici, i bisogni formativi, i problemi dell’inserimento sociale degli studenti internazionali e degli studenti stranieri scolarizzati in Italia, prestando particolare attenzione anche ai temi della socialità, della reciprocità, del pregiudizio e dell’inclusione anche in riferimento agli studenti italiani. La ricerca, ma anche l’azione: L’Aquila, una città universitaria ancora segnata dal sisma del 2009 e dall’alterazione dei rapporti sociali. Viviamo tra una realtà soda e scabra, inconoscibile, una fornace enorme di perturbazioni e richiami e colori, e un’interiorità elusiva, delicata ed effimera: e tra le due, tra il mondo e noi, tessiamo col pensiero e con le parole un fragile ponte, un ponte che si chiama senso. Dondola questo ponte al soffio ineguale di un vento cosmico, lasciando cadere fosforici frammenti: clessidre improvvise, anonimi centauri, geometri insonni, sillogismi lontani, stirpi scomparse, neri basalti, anacoreti folli, plesiosauri silenti, flauti e cornamuse... Queste particole luminose compongono e ricompongono figure, e su quelle figure ci facciamo domande e narriamo storie. Solo la vertigine del domandare e del narrare può dar senso a una vita che alcuni dicono intessuta di pura casualità.

Tutti i grandi quotidiani offrono giornalmente alcuni schemi da risolvere, sono nate associazioni e federazioni, vengono organizzati tornei locali, vari campionati nazionali e persino un campionato mondiale a cadenza annuale, si moltiplicano le proposte di varianti del Sudoku classico, moltissimi docenti universitari hanno avviato tesi di laurea sull’argomento, sono stati scritti svariati prodotti software su PC, su hardware dedicato e sulle principali console di giochi interattivi. Accanto alla moltitudine crescente di dilettanti che con varia frequenza si cimentano nel gioco, di solito lavorando con carta e penna e in solitario, è nata una comunità mondiale di esperti che, attraverso forum dedicati su Internet, cercano di scovare tecniche di soluzione sempre più sofisticate, oppure si accaniscono ad individuare e sviscerare i segreti logico-matematici del gioco, o più semplicemente si propongono di strutturare, organizzare e diffondere la conoscenza in materia. Questo libro si rivolge al primo gruppo di persone, ai dilettanti che vogliono continuare a giocare con carta e penna e che eventualmente vogliono diventare un po’ più esperti, e si propone di dare risposta a due quesiti principali: 1) come riuscire a risolvere in modo divertente qualsiasi schema, per quanto difficile, proposto dalle riviste specializzate, a partire da un numero limitato ma sufficiente di tecniche di base e avanzate, 2) come orientarsi nel variegato mondo degli esperti, dei forum, dei siti dedicati, dei prodotti software, senza perdere tempo inutile e potendo rapidamente trovare risposta a qualsiasi eventuale dubbio.

    Abstract: In contesto scolastico quello delle difficoltà in matematica è un fenomeno importante sia per la sua diffusione sia per le conseguenze che ha a vari livelli: dal disagio personale con cui viene vissuto da molti allievi, all'atteggiamento negativo che larghi strati della popolazione costruiscono verso la nostra disciplina, fino al calo di iscrizioni ai corsi di laurea scientifici. Di fronte a queste difficoltà, che spesso si manifestano in comportamenti quali la rinuncia a provare o il rispondere a caso, l'azione didattica finalizzata al recupero è in genere un'azione locale, che nasce dall'individuazione di errori per poi intervenire sulle conoscenze ritenute necessarie per rispondere correttamente. Ma questo tipo di intervento si rivela in genere fallimentare, e l'insegnante - insieme all'allievo - matura un senso di impotenza e di frustrazione. Il fatto è che questo approccio tende ad ignorare la varietà degli scopi che allievi diversi si possono porre davanti ad uno stesso compito, scopi non necessariamente interni alla matematica: per un intervento efficace è necessario allora spostare l'attenzione dagli errori che l'allievo commette all'allievo che li commette, alla ricerca dei motivi delle sue azioni. Questo volume intende offrire agli insegnanti di matematica strumenti utili per affrontare il problema, costruendo gradatamente - anche con l'aiuto di contributi teorici provenienti da altre discipline - un repertorio di interpretazioni possibili per i comportamenti degli allievi, su cui poter progettare interventi mirati, adeguati cioè ai loro problemi e bisogni

    Abstract: The transformations of our society place the onus on the teaching professions to acquire new skills to enable them to respond to the needs of a complex reality in constant evolution. This is why the Degree Course for Professional Educator has gone through ongoing radical changes over recent years, designed to synthesise the theoretical and practical dimensions. This book is aimed at recording such changes in the attempt to provide a snapshot of the youth universe through the discussion of data emerging from a questionnaire, and the analysis of various scholastic autobiographies written by the students themselves. The objective of the publication is to understand the backgrounds of our students, what are their relations with the school and with the teachers, what expectations they have in relation to the academic world and their future in professional and personal terms. The book is therefore aimed at secondary school teachers, at University teachers and at the educators themselves, as well as at all those who are engaged with young people and adolescence in various capacities
    Abstract: Le trasformazioni della nostra società pongono le professioni educative di fronte all'esigenza di acquisire nuove competenze che permettano di rispondere ai bisogni di una realtà complessa e in costante evoluzione. Per tale ragione il Corso di Laurea in Educatore Professionale in questi ultimi anni ha cambiato e sta cambiando volto, nell'intento di unire armonicamente in sé dimensione teorica e pratica. Il volume cerca appunto di dar conto di tali cambiamenti nel tentativo di fornire una fotografia di questo universo giovanile tramite la discussione dei dati emersi da un questionario e l'analisi di alcune autobiografie scolastiche scritte dagli studenti stessi. Obiettivo della pubblicazione: capire quale sia la realtà dalla quale i nostri iscritti provengono, quale il loro rapporto con la scuola e con i docenti, quali aspettative nutrano nei confronti del mondo accademico e del proprio futuro lavorativo e personale. Il testo si rivolge, dunque, agli insegnanti della scuola secondaria, ai docenti universitari, agli educatori stessi, nonché a tutti coloro che in veste diversa si occupano di adolescenza e di età giovanile
