Abstract: Since the migration movements from Islamic countries, a Muslim diaspora has developed in many Western societies. While in classical Islamic theology residence in non-Muslim countries has always been a controversial issue, in the course of globalization and internationalization processes the classical distinction between "Islamic world" and "non-Islamic world" has been put into perspective. Now nearly 30 million Muslims live in Europe. The book offers an overview over Muslim communities in Europe, their history, present issues, and future challenges. The Editors: Rauf Ceylan is Professor for Contemporary Studies of Islam at the Institute for Islamic Theology, Osnabrück University. Marvin Mücke is research assistant at the Institute for Islamic Theology, Osnabrück University. .

Abstract: Introduction: On unfamiliar territory -- Crossing borders in Southern Africa -- Doing research in postcolonial times -- Theoretical framework: Revising concepts of migration studies -- Finding ways to and in Cape Town: Challenges and mitigating factors -- Collective self-description: Actual, vague, and absent figures of identification -- The others: Comparisons to (other) collectives -- “It’s not easy if you are Zimbabwean”: Being Zimbabwean in South Africa -- Examining insider-outsider dynamics -- Nationality, citizenship, and belonging -- Conclusion: Paradoxes of nationality in theory and practice.
Abstract: In recounting their migration journey, references to nationality pervade the narratives of Zimbabweans in South Africa. Given the challenges many migrants confront based on their nationality, this presents a seeming paradox. This qualitative interview study, conducted with Zimbabwean migrants in two areas of Cape Town—Observatory and Dunoon—aims to elucidate the nuances of national self-descriptions in a demanding environment. Identifying as Zimbabwean serves as a sanctuary and a retreat, where alternative identifications often prove transient; embracing Zimbabweanness fosters an affirmative and positive self-perception, surpassing the limitations of other collective self-descriptions. Rather than pre-emptively characterizing a nationalist demeanour, the articulation of national self-description emerges as a strategic tool to navigate experiences of hostility and discrimination, while also asserting legitimate claims to equal opportunities. In this way, nationality takes a trajectory that diverges from conventional notions of nationality (and the ones of the nation-state or citizenship) as per Northern theory, contributing to alternative conceptualizations within the framework of the Global South. About the author Johannes Kögel studied philosophy and sociology in Munich and Cape Town. He currently works as a research associate at the University of Munich (LMU München). He has conducted social research on diverse topics such as brain-computer interfaces, xenotransplantation, and migration in South Africa. .

Abstract: Scientific and practical perspective of the relevance, the interactions of repairing -- Possibilities of repairing -- Limits of the mentioned phenomena of do-it-yourself and longer use -- Phenomena of circular economy.
Abstract: Repair & Do-It-Yourself activities on the one hand and discussions about the circular economy on the other hand are currently regarded as promising examples of how current modes of consumption and production can be reorganized and redesigned in the sense of a sustainable society. This volume discusses the relevance, the interactions as well as the possibilities and limits of the aforementioned phenomena of repairing, do-it-yourself and longer use on the one hand and the circular economy on the other, from both a scientific and a practical perspective. The publishers PD Dr. Michael Jonas is a private lecturer in sociology at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt/Oder and a senior researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies Vienna. Dr. Sebastian Nessel is a post doc in the research department of Economic Sociology at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz. Mag.a Nina Tröger is a consumer researcher at the Vienna Chamber of Labourn. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

Abstract: The book focuses on volatile processes at the South African-Zimbabwean border that arise from practices of migration and income generating activities. The processes are influenced by neoliberal developments and controversial discourses on migration, commercial sexual services, and human trafficking. In this unstable environment, different actors continuously negotiate, trying to achieve stable positions. By addressing issues related to migration and income generating activities, they maneuver between legal rules and their own moral values and interests. In their attempt to classify incidents in the border context that are unclear to them, actors’ explanations are partly based on the concept of transnational human trafficking. Thereby, they transfer the impenetrability discursively associated with this concept to what they see as obscure cross-border migration, disconcerting sexual services, and other alienating economic activities. Alternatively, actors understand undocumented cross-border migration, commercial sexual services, and other illegalised income-generating activities as common everyday practices at the border and also assume that human trafficking does not play an important role there. About the author Anna S. Hüncke is a research associate at the Research Institute for Sustainability at Helmholtz Centre Potsdam. There she deals with questions of socio-ecological transformation and public sector innovation.

Abstract: Introduction -- Our town: the sociology of policing communities -- Setting the stage: setting, method, and perspective -- Framing police encounters: the dramaturgy of authority -- Violence and the police -- Community tales: storytelling, experience, and local knowledge -- The police and community maintenance -- Postscript: retrospective auto-ethnography.
Abstract: This Open-Access-book questions the relationship between institutionalized images and understandings of policing – the monolithic ideas common to most, if not all, Western law enforcement agencies – and contextual, situative, and local interactions where the human representatives of policing – street-level officers – come into contact with residents. The political and theoretical association of specific forms of “Western” policing with democratic society can be illustrated in the case of German integration: narratives of reform and essentially forging new democratic police agencies in the “new German states” stand at odds with much of the experience and statements of officers who continued to serve following (Re)Unification. Officers who present their works primarily in terms of their local responsibilities, expectations and more specifically to their unique and individual relationship and connection to their communities downplay the relevance of high-level policing policy. Based on a two-year ethnographic study of policing in a rural county in the German state of Brandenburg, this book explores the local nature of policing both in terms of how police officers imagine their communities to be and with reference to broader societal expectations and assumptions of what police, essentially, are, can effectively do, and should effectively do. About the author Aaron Bielejewski is a research associate at the Centre for Criminological Research Saxony. He studies cultural and interactionist aspects of police work and prison.

Abstract: Can machines simulate, express or even have emotions? Is it a good to build such machines? How do humans react emotionally to them and how should such devices be treated from a moral point of view? This volume addresses these and related questions by bringing together perspectives from affective computing and emotional human-machine interaction, combining technological approaches with those from the humanities and social sciences. It thus relates disciplines such as philosophy, computer science, technology, psychology, sociology, design, and art. The volume offers readers interested in the phenomenon of emotional machines new perspectives from a variety of disciplines and addresses fundamental questions that will become pressing in the foreseeable future as emotional machines increasingly populate our everyday lives. The Editors Catrin Misselhorn, chair of philosophy at the University of Göttingen Tom Poljanšek, post-doc in philosophy at the University of Göttingen. Tobias Störzinger, post-doc in philosophy at the University of Göttingen. Maike Klein, project manager at the German Informatics Society.

Abstract: Anthropogenic Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century and receives more and more international awareness. The central instruments to counter climate change are emissions trading schemes (ETS) to cover GHG emissions. To increase efficiency and to ensure global reduction of emissions damaging to the climate, an international emissions trading scheme would be a rational choice. To establish such a global scheme, political decision makers could follow a bottom-up-approach by linking already existing ETS with each other. The book investigates such linkings of emissions trading schemes, which provide many benefits for the linking partners. As experience shows, although the number of schemes increased in the last decade, only a few linkings were established. Thus, the book answers the question, if and which conditions for states exist to link their emissions trading schemes. About the author Matthias Machinek is a spokesman of one of the four German transmission system operators, which have a central role in the German Energy Transformation. Before that he worked as a political analyst in European and American carbon markets and as an office manager in the Parliament of Northrhine-Westphalia. He wrote his dissertation about the topic of linkings of emissions trading schemes at Prof. Dr. Thomas Jäger’s chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy at the University of Cologne.

Abstract: For over 20 years, school interventions involving former right-wing extremists have been popular in Germany. In practice, they are advertised and conducted as both civic education and extremism prevention. This book uses an evidence-based and interdisciplinary approach to examine the potentials and challenges of this format. It provides a thematic embedding of German application, a comprehensive review of attributed impact assumptions and the state of related research. Furthermore, this research offers highly valuable, unique and comprehensive insights based on empirical evidence. It thus contributes to a better understanding of the format and its complexity. Overall, the findings give no clear indication that the involvement of former right-wing extremists in schools initiate civic education processes or prevent political extremism. Rather, the investigation found fundamental needs for additional research, modification, and sensitization. In this vein, this book makes a pioneer contribution to quality assurance and evaluation research in civic education and extremism prevention. About the author Dr. Antje Gansewig worked in the fields of political extremism, crime prevention and civic education for several institutions over the last 15 years (e.g., National Center for Crime Prevention, Federal Agency for Civic Education). Currently, she is a researcher at the University of Oldenburg, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Civic Education.

Abstract: The book focuses on the traditional view of party-voter representation, parties and their respective positions, and party systems as central actors, the role of governmental institutions as well on policy inputs, outputs, and outcomes and the agenda setting process. The fundamental characteristics of the political actors such as political parties and the party system and their ideological composition are dealt with. The role governmental institutions play in the policy making process are exemplified covering the characteristics of the agenda-setting power and the consequences for the government’s survival. The results of these mechanisms are analyzed while focusing on some classical policies of comparative research such as social and environmental policy. The Editors Erik Baltz is PhD student and lecturer at the Institute for Political Science and Communication Studies at the University of Greifswald. Sven Kosanke is a journalist and project manager at Katapult Magazine. Susanne Pickel is professor for comparative politics at the Department of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Abstract: The book presents a theoretical and practical approach to international social work. It uses examples from Germany with a long tradition of social work and focuses on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which is in a pioneering phase in teaching social work while at the same time experiencing a highly explosive situation in global politics. Socio-political challenges such as violence, traumatization, (religious) fundamentalism, ethnicization, changing gender relations, flight and migration call for a professional examination of social work as a human rights profession in international comparison. Abstract: Generative Terms -- Creativity in relations -- Practical logic an logic of praxis -- Specific struggles: fields and space
Abstract: Starting from the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu, Schäfer composes a methodical approach to habitus of social actors and the logic of their praxis: Building upon the generative terms of praxeology, he focuses on identity and strategy in processes of internalization, their transformation by means of dispositional schemes, and their externalization in action. The emphasis lies on a theory of dispositions that allows a flexible understanding of identity and strategy formation in the context of social experience and the interplay with social structures. This theory is developed over the course of a three-step analysis on habitus as a network of dispositions, on the dynamics that unfold between the logic of socio-structural processes and practical logic, and on the praxeological assessment of social structures via models of fields and the social space. This book is the second of three volumes of HabitusAnalysis. Abstract: This volume sets out to provide a semantics for the "future-directed opining verbs", a novel class whose members are used to describe subjects' externally attested opinions toward future possibilities. Including verbs like recommend, promise, and permit, the class can be situated within a broader range of opinion verbs, including the well-known propositional attitudes, and key to the investigation here are differences among these groups along the lines of available event types, interaction with the common ground, and restrictions on subjects and objects. Other important semantic topics implicated in the discussion are dispositions, free choice disjunction, and Neg-raising/embedded NPI licensing, and the host of new data associated with the future-directed opining verbs prompts surveys of the expanded scope of these phenomena, and corresponding re-evaluation of existing theories. Collectively, the contributions of this work deepen our understanding of predicates that describe opinion and disposition, and how these interact with fundamental logical operations like negation and disjunction, highlighting the crucial role of contextual factors like relevance for these processes

Abstract: Do schools work differently in deprived and privileged neighbourhoods? As segregation is on the rise in many cities, this book explores how different neighbourhood contexts shape public organisations, by using an innovative approach that combines a Bourdieusian perspective and new institutional theory. Based on interviews and ethnographic data from two primary schools in Berlin, Germany, it shows how local social compositions, symbolic meanings of urban areas, and neighbourhood-based policy interventions structure schools. Educational professionals adapt to these structural differences. The book analyses how teachers’ understandings and practices vary by local context – and what that means for the reproduction of urban inequality. Abstract: Die Transformation und ihre Varianten -- Sozialer Schutz im Postsozialismus -- Schuld und Gerechtigkeit im Systemwechsel.

Abstract: Dejan Petkov explores the tramway renaissance in Western Europe from a socio-technical standpoint and focuses on the development in Germany, France, and England. A multiple case analysis reveals the drivers, impact forces, actors and interest constellations behind the tramway renaissance in these countries and demonstrates the large variations in local systems and their style. A key finding is that there can be quite different paths to the success of tramway systems, but this success usually comes at a cost and can have a comprehensive character only if the systems are considered an integral part of the overarching strategies and concepts for urban and regional development. Abstract: The existing welfare regime literature identifies differences in welfare state systems. Sarah Förster asks, if we can learn something on the organizational level about the embedding of philanthropic foundations in the field of social welfare in different welfare state systems. This investigation is based on comparative insights from the three country cases of Germany, Sweden and the UK (England). Guided by propositions from theoretical analysis of welfare regime literature, comparative explorative case studies based on interview data and secondary sources give insights into the field and the embedding of philanthropic social welfare foundations in the three different welfare state systems. Each type of foundation has different levels of independence from external constraints and is embedded to different degrees according to the propositions from welfare regime theory. These differences hold further implications for the investigation of foundations as a special organizational form. Abstract: Frequently enabled by digitalization, great transformations are taking place in socio-technical systems such as energy, telecommunications, and mobility. These transformations indicate widespread shifts in societal infrastructure systems, rearranging relations between governments, industries, NGOs, and consumers. In this context, the question of trust in systems – as introduced by sociologists Luhmann, Coleman and Giddens – acquires new urgency, as yet uncommented upon in trust research, or socio-technical systems debates. Focusing on the energy sector, Patrick Sumpf analyzes the meanings of system and trust to develop a framework for both theoretical and empirical research, which is synthesized into an “Architecture of Trust” in systems. Contents The Dualism of System Trust Intersections in Trust Research Open and Closed Systems System Identity Toward an ‘Architecture of Trust’ Case Study: Trust in the Energy System Target Groups Researchers and students in sociology, communications, psychology, management, trust research, and energy research Consultants in energy policy and management The Author Patrick Sumpf holds a Dr. phil. in media and communication studies from Mannheim University, Germany. Abstract: This Handbook is a detailed introduction to the numerous academic perspectives that apply to the study of the internet as a political, social and communicative phenomenon. Covering both practical and theoretical angles, established researchers from around the world discuss everything: the foundations of internet research appear alongside chapters on understanding and analyzing current examples of online activities and artifacts. The material covers all continents and explores in depth subjects such as networked gaming, economics and the law. The sheer scope and breadth of topics examined in this volume, which ranges from on-line communities to e-science via digital aesthetics, are evidence that in today’s world, internet research is a vibrant and mature field in which practitioners have long since stopped considering the internet as either an utopian or dystopian "new" space, but instead approach it as a medium that has become an integral part of our everyday culture and a natural mode of communication. This Second International Handbook of Internet Research is an updated version of the first International Handbook of Internet Research that came out in 2010. Since then, the field has changed, and this new version retains a number of the key updated chapters from the first handbook, as well as completely new chapters

Abstract: The book focuses on major aspects of Norbert Elias's social theory through research on supposed “minor” topics, such as manners, sports, leisure and cultural practices. While many of his publications became essential for scholars in the different disciplines concerned, the development of the figurational approach towards these fields was not always completed. The edited volume picks up some lose ends by including archive manuscripts by Elias on the genesis of sport, developments of cultural practices, and the sociology of the body, which are published here for the very first time. Based on critical reviews of these texts, international experts show how the new material adds up to Elias’s oeuvre and how it can be fruitfully applied to current research. Abstract: This book provides critical perspectives on contemporary collaborative consumption, a recent societal phenomenon shaking up previously fixed socio-economic categories such as the producer and the consumer. The contributors discuss the role of trust and reciprocity in collaborative consumption through seven case studies. The chapters advance debates on the contradictions of positioning collaborative consumption as possible solutions for a more sustainable development and exacerbating new forms of inequalities and injustice. The book contributes a nuanced appraisal of social and economic activity for reflecting socio-technological changes in contemporary societies. Content Reciprocity in the sharing economy: the case for time banking platforms • Collective representation on collaborative economy platforms • “Foodsharing”: Reflecting on individualized collective action in a collaborative consumption community organization • Riding free-riders? A study of the phenomenon of BlaBlaCar in Italy • The sharing economy and young people: an exploratory research project • Collaborative consumption and trust-building processes in the emerging new food economy • Shared use and owning of clothes: borrow, steal or inherit The Editors Isabel Cruz, Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Porto. Abstract: Angela Pohlmann analyses the social embeddedness of renewable energy production. The author challenges tendencies in the existing literature to homogenize community energy projects. Energy production instead is analyzed as an outcome of complex situations within which dynamic negotiation processes unfold. By combining Theodore Schatzki’s practice-theoretical approach with Adele Clarke’s situational analysis the focus is shifted from practices as stabilized and routinized forms of human behavior onto their dynamic and negotiated character. Abstract: Gentrification is arguably the most dynamic area of conflict in current urban development policy - it is the process by which poorer populations are displaced by more affluent groups. Although gentrification is well-documented, German and international research largely focuses on improvements in the built environment and social composition of neighbourhoods. The consequences for those who are displaced often remain overlooked. Where do they move? What does it mean to be forced to leave a familiar residential area? What kinds of resistance strategies are developed? How does anti-gentrification work? With a focus on Berlin - the German "capital of gentrification" - the chapters in this volume use innovative methods to explore these pressing questions. Abstract: Isabella Bertmann investigates the connection between disability, poverty, and quality of life, and how social protection measures can influence this relationship. The focus of this study is on South Africa. On the basis of qualitative interviews conducted with individuals affected as well as with local disability and social policy professionals, the author provides enlightening insights into the contemporary discourse on inclusive social protection systems. By combining theoretical considerations on well-being and quality of life (based on the Capability Approach) with her empirical data, she opens new perspectives on the multidimensionality of poverty, social inclusion, and self-determined living. Abstract: Nadja Bieletzki explores how university presidents lead universities. She provides insights into the upper echelons of higher education management and focuses especially on university presidents in Germany. Special attention is given to the career background of university presidents and the way they conduct reform projects. Based on the results from semi-structured expert interviews and their qualitative analysis, the author shows that university presidents do not use all their formal power although their position has been strengthened by law. This can be explained by the collegial characteristics of universities, which drive and restrict presidential actions. Abstract: Pia Nicoletta Blossfeld provides a long-term longitudinal analysis of the stepwise changes in transitions over the educational careers in East and West Germany using data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). She examines how far reforms aimed to increase the permeability in the German educational system have changed the movements of children, adolescents and young adults in Germany since the last four decades. Her book contributes to the literature of educational sociology by studying the associations between various resources of family background and respondent’s educational histories until final educational attainment. A novelty of her book is the analysis of the role of intercohort changes in social background composition on final educational attainment. Abstract: What is happening to gender studies and gender research as emerging but contested fields of scientific knowledge in the conditions of the new academic governance? And which role do gender studies and gender research play in the current transformations in academia? All articles in this book make clear that the impacts of the new academic governance have global, glocal and local dimensions which have to be taken into account in analysing the state of gender studies and gender research at the end of the 2010s. From diverse geopolitical and sociocultural views the authors simultaneously draw a multifaceted picture of the current situation, criticise the widespread tendencies of the marketisation of scientific knowledge, suggest strategies for resistance against the neo-liberalisation of higher education and research, and identify starting points for further and optionally comparative studies on these issues. These contributions emphasise not only the need for more theoretical reflection and empirical research and for critical exchanges on the current transformations, but also the need for political action to challenge, resist and change them. Abstract: Lara Jüssen takes the case of Latin American household and construction workers in Madrid to show how ir/regular labour migrants make citizenship available for themselves through emplacements, embodiments and enactments of citizenship. After describing the sociopolitical context of crisis and resistance in Spain, citizenship is anthropologized in order to approach it through the workplace: the private household and the construction site. Based on empirical results from interviews, it is analyzed how citizenship is emplaced through ego-centered networks and assemblages that situate the migrants’ social belonging; how it is embodied through carving out of identities of the migrant workers, intersectionality of gender, ethnicity, and class, affects that imprint workers’ bodies, and experiences of violence at the workplace; then citizenships’ enactment is scrutinized through workers’ empowerment for rights, individually at the workplace and collectively through demonstrations and political theater performance in urban public space. Abstract: Stefanie Walter examines the visibility of European Union citizens in the mass mediated European public sphere and argues that it can help facilitate an exchange between decision-makers and ordinary citizens. The results show that in comparison to other actor groups, such as political parties or civil society organisations, the visibility of European Union citizens is not marginal. Yet, the image of the European Union citizenry that becomes visible via the news media remains nationally entrenched and references to a truly European citizenry are rare. The study also uses multilevel regressions to explain the visibility of European Union citizens in the news coverage. The empirical analyses are based on a large-scale content analysis of TV news and newspaper articles of the 2009 European Parliament election. Abstract: The book presented here describes an outstanding attempt, not only to include children’s views but to partner with children to develop the concept of well-being and to study the phenomenon as the children understand it. The authors do this by placing the concept of children’s well-being within the existing discourses on the topic and by developing their unique theoretical approach to the concept. Then, and based on what children told them, the authors identify different domains and dimensions of children’s well-being and touch upon its multifaceted nature. The book concludes with drawing research and policy implications from an integrated summary of the study’s findings and lists indicator concepts that present an alternative framework and conceptualisation of well-being from a child standpoint

Abstract: This interdisciplinary endeavour portrays the central features of militant movements which hold totality as an important part of their doctrinal core. Revisiting the importance of modernity, utopianism, eschatology, charisma, psychology and the history of ideas, Mihai Murariu pursues a reconstruction of the historical requirements for the emergence of such movements. Making a central use of the concept of totalism, the work establishes a conceptual bridge from antiquity to the contemporary period, whilst also arguing for the suitability of the term in comparison to totalitarianism or political religion. The author also proposes a distinct taxonomy for structural elements, variants, and development phases which may be encountered in totalist movements.

    Parallel Title: Printed edition
Keywords: Database management ; User interfaces (Computer systems) ; Application software ; Computational linguistics ; Linguistics ; Computerlinguistik ; Annotation
Abstract: This handbook offers a thorough treatment of the science of linguistic annotation. Leaders in the field guide the reader through the process of modeling, creating an annotation language, building a corpus and evaluating it for correctness. Essential reading for both computer scientists and linguistic researchers. Linguistic annotation is an increasingly important activity in the field of computational linguistics because of its critical role in the development of language models for natural language processing applications. Part one of this book covers all phases of the linguistic annotation process, from annotation scheme design and choice of representation format through both the manual and automatic annotation process, evaluation, and iterative improvement of annotation accuracy. The second part of the book includes case studies of annotation projects across the spectrum of linguistic annotation types, including morpho-syntactic tagging, syntactic analyses, a range of semantic analyses (semantic roles, named entities, sentiment and opinion), time and event and spatial analyses, and discourse level analyses including discourse structure, co-reference, etc. Each case study addresses the various phases and processes discussed in the chapters of part one
Abstract: Part One -- Introduction -- Designing annotation schemes: from theory to model -- Designing Annotation schemes: from model to representation -- Community standards -- Creating annotations -- Using annotations -- Part Two: Case Studies -- General Corpora -- Treebanks -- Semantic annotation -- Discourse level annotation -- Speech (transcribed) -- Biomedical annotations

Abstract: Matthias Müller makes a case for the particular role of the demand side in research on innovation. Based on a complex agent-based simulation model, he analyzes the versatile mutual relationships between consumers and producers within the innovation process. Instead of oversimplifying the demand side, the book aims to apply important aspects which too often are only applied to the supply side, e.g., the heterogeneity and bounded rationality of economic actors embedded in networks. The results offer a new perspective on the innovation process, proving that the demand side and consumers are important drivers of innovation, which must be included in future research for a full picture. Contents The Role of Consumers in Innovation Economics Evolutionary Economics The New Agent-Based Paradigm in Economics An ABM of Heterogeneous Consumers and Demand Consumer Networks Bounded Morality of Consumers Target Groups Researchers and students in the fields of innovation economics, evolutionary economics, complexity science, and computer simulation Policy making, public administration, and innovation management The Author Matthias Müller conducted his doctoral research at the University of Hohenheim, Germany. He currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of innovation economics

Abstract: This book focuses on the prevention of child abuse and neglect deaths in the U.S. In 2013 1,520 children died from maltreatment. This book defines child maltreatment fatalities (CMFs) and discusses the prevalence of deaths in the U.S. over the last several decades. It addresses the known risk factors for maltreatment deaths including child, parent, the parent-child relationship, and household risk factors. The main focus of the book addresses the responses and interventions that have been put in place in order to prevent CMFs: the child welfare profession, child death review teams, safe haven laws, criminal justice responses, public education, and new, federal efforts in the U.S. to reduce CMFs in the U.S. The book finishes by making recommendations for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers about how to prevent fatal maltreatment among children in the U.S

Abstract: Lisa Dühring reconstructs the relationship between public relations and marketing research on a metatheoretical level. She presents a concise systematization of the theoretical discourse in both disciplines since the beginning of the twentieth century by differentiating key phases of development and evaluating current research approaches. This study argues for a stronger connection of both disciplines and a better profiling within the mother disciplines of communication and business studies by fostering critical and interpretative approaches. This book is strongly recommended to everybody interested in the history and epistemology of marketing and public relations theory and the relationship between both fields. Contents • State of Research: The Academic Debate on the Relationship between Marketing and Public Relations • The Philosophy of the Social Sciences • The History Marketing Thought • The History of Public Relations Thought • New Perspectives on the Future Relationship between Marketing and Public Relations Target Groups Researchers, students and practitioners in the fields of marketing, marketing communications, corporate communications, communications management, public relations, strategic communications and organizational communication The Author Dr. Lisa Dühring is a former research associate at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies, Leipzig, Germany and currently works at the International Office at Leipzig University.
