Abstract: Pinar Tuzcu explores rapper Lady Bitch Ray's performance and particularly her use of the term Kanackin. She combines issues of popfeminism and postmigration through speculative methodology and invites us to forget prescriptive definitions by proposing paradoxicality as a source to diversify our concepts of feminism. By means of Situational Analysis, her study works through the contradictory forms of positioning that occurred in group discussions with Turkish-German university students about Lady Bitch Ray's music videos. In this book, Tuzcu argues that these contradictory forms of positioning bear traces of emergent discourses that reach beyond Western-centric descriptions of feminism in Germany

Abstract: Der Begriff »Roma« ist in der deutschen Gesellschaft ein Reizwort. Er steht für die Gefährdung des Wohlfahrtsstaates durch Armutsmigration und repräsentiert die Unsicherheit, die in den situierten Europäischen Norden einzudringen sucht. Die Chiffre »Roma« hat dementsprechend auch in lokalen Konflikten um Armutsmigration eine spezifische Funktion.Die AutorInnen des Bandes haben im Rahmen einer lokalpolitischen Feldstudie soziale Konflikte um Migration aus Südosteuropa und ihre Dynamiken untersucht und eröffnen eine neue Perspektive auf die Situation von Roma in der bundesdeutschen Gesellschaft

Abstract: Hijab and identity: how do Muslim women speak for themselves in national debates and what repercussions are they confronted with? Anna C. Korteweg and Gökce Yurdakul analyze processes of inclusion and exclusion by way of »national narratives« and public discourses of belonging to geographical communities in France, Turkey, the Netherlands and Germany. In doing so, their focus is on media and political discussions around the hijab, niqab and the burka, which oscillate between rejection, tolerance and negotiation. The statements of Muslim women show how, using the example of the debates around the hijab, the meaning of national belonging can be reconsidered, reinforced and potentially also rearticulated

Korteweg und Gökce Yurdakul analysieren Prozesse der In- und Exklusion anhand »nationaler Narrative« sowie öffentlicher Zugehörigkeitsdiskurse zu geographischen Gemeinschaften in Frankreich, der Türkei, den Niederlanden und Deutschland. Den Fokus legen sie hierbei auf die medialen und politischen Diskussionen zu Kopftuch, Niqab und Burka, die zwischen Ablehnung, Toleranz und Aushandlung changieren. Abstract: Gentrification is likely the largest area of conflict in current urban development policy - because gentrification means that poorer socio-cultural groups are being threatened with displacement by the more prosperous. Although this development is obvious, German and international research has so far only concerned itself with the socio-structural upgrade of certain districts. The consequences for those displaced have so far remained unobserved. Where are they supposed to move to? What does displacement from their historic districts mean for them? What strategies of resistance exist? Using the example of Berlin, the German "capital of gentrification," the contributions in this volume pursue these urgent questions via innovative methods

Abstract: The federal and civic organizations concerned with refugee protection and asylum have played an important part in the Mediterranean region for decades when it comes to taking in people seeking protection. However, they have hardly been scientifically examined yet - and neither have their cooperation networks. The contributions of this volume close that gap in research and show which organizations in Greece, Italy, Malta, Spain and Cyprus are active, how they work and what they can contribute to the reception and integration of persons seeking protection

Abstract: Urban diversity has become de rigueur as a discursive line in contemporary contributions to urban development. However, the fact that this interplay of identities also influences social space has so far been overlooked. 'As one calls into the forest, so it will resound' - this familiar German saying proves to be an unreliable maxim: that which townsfolk might call into 'their' neighborhood only echoes back off its façades in a fragmentary fashion, as a wish, idealization or hope. Andreas Thiesen sketches out concepts of reflexive urban development, reveals errors in planning and renegotiates the 'problem of participation', which even today is yet to be resolved

Abstract: Constructing Intersex presents the first biographical research on intersex people in the German-speaking world. Over the course of life stories, Anja Gregor proves that the local medical approach to intersexuality (though also more broadly), which tends to be shrouded in secrecy, is highly problematic. She also shows that knowing about one's own intersexuality means being able to confront pain and trauma that have been experienced, and to develop new, self-aware perspectives on body/sex/gender. Abstract: Mit »Constructing Intersex« liegt die erste Biographieforschung mit intergeschlechtlichen Menschen im deutschsprachigen Raum vor. Auf Basis von Interviews stellt Anja Gregor heraus, welche schwerwiegenden Folgen bestimmte medizinische Pathologisierungs- und Zurichtungspraktiken für die Biographien der Betroffenen haben. Sie zeigt: Die soziale Konstruktion von Intergeschlechtlichkeit als zugleich tabuisiertem und medizinisch hochrelevantem Phänomen ist nicht nur auf der medizinisch-praktischen Ebene von Ambivalenzen und Verwerfungen geprägt. Die Studie reflektiert zudem den sozialen Gehalt von Körper und Geschlecht und verweist so auf das gesellschaftstheoretische Potential von Intergeschlechtlichkeit als sozialer Kategorie

Doch in welchem Verhältnis stehen »anerkennen«, »anerkannt werden«, »anerkannt werden als« und »sich anpassen«? Welche Macht geht von sozialer Anerkennung aus? Gabriele Fischer zeigt: Anerkennung kann Prestige und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe vermitteln, aber diese genauso gut entziehen. In ihrer Studie wird Anerkennung als soziale Praxis verstanden und mit der machtkritischen Perspektive von Butler und Foucault konzeptionell erweitert. Abstract: Seit Beginn der 1990er Jahre sind Menschen zwischen Deutschland und Osteuropa, Russland sowie Zentralasien in Bewegung. Die Beiträge dieses Bandes widmen sich diesen neuen post-sozialistischen Migrationen, Remigrationen und Verortungen in Eurasien und nehmen damit die im Vorgängerband »Zuhause fremd« (2006) begonnenen Debatten zu Fragen der Zugehörigkeit und Beheimatung wieder auf. Der Einbezug sowohl der Herkunfts- als auch der Ankunftsorte ermöglicht eine über reine Integrationsfragestellungen hinausgehende transnationale Perspektive, die insbesondere an der zahlenmäßig größten bundesdeutschen Einwanderergruppe der (Spät-)Aussiedler_innen entwickelt wird

Abstract: Verteilungskämpfe um die knappe Ressource Erwerbsarbeit führen dazu, dass vor allem schlecht ausgebildete Arbeitskräfte von Prekarisierung, Arbeitslosigkeit und somit von sozialem Abstieg betroffen sind.Auf der Basis lebensgeschichtlicher Interviews mit türkeistämmigen Männern der zweiten und dritten Einwanderergeneration zeigt Carina Großer-Kaya, in welcher Weise Strategien im Umgang mit Marginalisierungserfahrungen und Diskontinuitäten biographisch eingebettet sind und welche sozialen Anerkennungsmuster für ein positives Selbstbild als Mann, Ehemann und Vater entwickelt werden.Hierzu analysiert sie arbeitsethische Orientierungen und arbeitet im Rahmen einer rekonstruktiven Fallanalyse subjektive Konstruktionen von Zugehörigkeit und individuelle intergenerative Positionierungen heraus
