Abstract: This book is an ethnographic account of education and migration from the perspective of three groups of South Koreans in contemporary China: migrant parents, children/students, and educational agents. The book reveals how these temporary migrants make choices, plan their trajectories and engage with the authorities, both in China and South Korea. Migrant subjectivities among these groups are driven by and respond to the education-migration regimes of both the sending and receiving countries. As 'people in between', they occupy flexible and multiple positionalities that are transnationally distributed. However, paradoxically, they experience a juxtaposition of privilege, integration and separation, which is indicative of the Chinese style of internationalisation. The book adds weight to the argument that China is a temporary destination for foreigners and not one for long-term settlement.

The focus will be on amulets with no, or minimal, textual content like those comprising found stone, semi-precious gem and/or animal body parts. Abstract: The dual traumas of colonialism and slavery are still felt by Native Americans and African Americans as victims of ongoing violence toward people of color today. In this book, John Corrigan calls attention to the trauma experienced by white Americans as perpetrators of this violence. By tracing memory's role in American Christianity, Corrigan shows how contemporary white Christian nationalism is motivated by a widespread effort to forget the role race plays in American society. White trauma, Corrigan argues, courses through American culture like an underground river that sometimes bursts forth into brutality, terrorism, and insurrection. Tracing the river to its source is a necessary first step toward healing.

Abstract: 'A Global Idea' outlines how youth - as shown by the Arab Spring uprisings and subsequent state responses - became a prominent social and political category during the first two decades of the twenty-first century in the Middle East. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, interview data, and textual analysis, Mayssoun Sukarieh explains that the spread of youth as an important category is linked to the operation of a 'global youth development complex', a diverse transnational network of state, private sector, civil society, and international development aid organizations that worked through key urban areas such as Washington D.C., Amman, and Dubai.

Abstract: 'Clock time', which denotes particular ways of valuing temporal duration, is typically associated with monetary worth or labour. From this follows so-called thrifty attitudes towards the passing of time, which is construed as a resource that can be 'wasted' or 'saved'. This title, however, presents comparative case studies of clock time in Fiji and Finland to reconsider the other values that it is capable of expressing, beyond monetary worth. By comparing two such dissimilar case studies - and drawing on examples as diverse as the Fijian hospitality industry and peripheral waiting and Finnish academic time management - Erasaari foregrounds time's capacity to act as a sign and measure of other values.

Abstract: This book is the result of a scholarly intervention into the space of the Kraków Ethnographic Museum. While reflecting on one specific project, it opens many questions relevant for reformulating our ideas about both the museum and the academy. The project's approach to intellectual deliberation is horizontal, engaging students on equal footing with professors, resulting in a publication that embodies collaborative practice. It is also a unique example of how thought can be manifested in creative action, which itself then produces a new object for critical reflection. It is a true blend of theory and practice; an attempt to embed the university in the broader social world while similarly urging museums to speak directly to the societies about which they teach. The project thus proposes both a new form of research and a new take on the presentation of academic knowledge. Thinking through the museum becomes - as promised - not only a critical view of the institution, but also a meditation on society, its rules, and the identities of its inhabitants.
