    Abstract: The Nordic states were among the first in the world to enact general gender equality and anti-discrimination laws with low threshold enforcement mechanisms. Today, the Nordic countries top the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index –but they have still not succeeded in closing the gender gap. This book draws a diverse and complex picture of the long, uneven, and unfinished process towards substantive equality in four Nordic countries: Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. It presents the Nordic gender equality model’s systematic use of three measures: overarching gender policies, legislation that has an explicit or implicit impact on gender relations, and gender equality and anti-discrimination laws with low-threshold enforcement systems. What potentials and limitations do the Nordic gender equality and anti-discrimination law regimes have to combat individual discrimination and structural inequality? Can these regimes function as a driver of political, legal, economic, cultural, and social change and as a corrective to laws, policies, and practices that uphold existing inequalities and, if so, to what extent? Can weaknesses in the equality and anti-discrimination laws and the way they are enforced hamper efforts to close remaining gender gaps? Rather than looking at the Nordic gender equality laws and policies in isolation, the book situates their development and transformative potential within a changing European and international political and legal landscape

    Abstract: Forced Mobility of EU Citizens is a critical evaluation from an empirical perspective of existing practices of the use of transnational criminal justice instruments within the European Union. Such instruments include the European Arrest Warrant (EAW), prisoner transfer procedures and criminal law-related deportations. The voices and experiences of people transferred across internal borders of the European Union are brought to the fore in this book. Another area explored is the scope and value of EU citizenship rights in light of cooperation not just between judicial authorities of EU Member States, but criminal justice systems in general, including penitentiary institutions. The novelty of the book lays not only in the fact that it brings to the fore a topic that so far has been under-researched, but it also brings together academics and studies from different parts of Europe – from the west (i.e. the expelling countries) and the east (the receiving countries, with a special focus on two of the jurisdictions most affected by these processes – Poland and Romania). It therefore exposes processes that have so far been hidden, shows the links between sending and receiving countries, and elaborates on the harms caused by those instruments and the very idea of ‘justice’ behind them. This book also introduces a new element to deportation studies as it links to them the institution of the European Arrest Warrant and EU law transfers targeting prisoners and sentenced individuals. With a combination of legal, criminological, and sociological perspectives, this book will be of great interest to scholars and students with an interest in EU law, criminal law, transnational criminal justice, migration/immigration, and citizenship

    Abstract: What relations (of difference) between students develop in such practices of ‘Planarbeit’ in individualized secondary school teaching in which students relate to instructional tasks and to each other? In this study, a (video-)ethnographic approach is chosen to explore the contribution of students to the formation of social order in the classroom. The findings show that the ‘Selbstständigkeit’ (independence) of students in individualized plan-teaching, which relies on students not only showing themselves responsible for their own progression, but also as ‘mit-zuständig’ (co-responsible) for the progression of the work processes of their classmates, is relational: The continuation, the resuming and the appropriateness of individual progressions is socially accounted for and practiced in task-related references between students – which is associated not only with specific practices, but also with relations of difference between those involved

    Abstract: Digital Humanities and Laboratories explores laboratories dedicated to the study of digital humanities (DH) in a global context and contributes to the expanding body of knowledge about situated DH knowledge production. As a whole, the book consolidates the discussion on the role of the laboratory in DH and brings digital humanists into the interdisciplinary debate concerning the notion of a laboratory as a critical site in the generation of experimental knowledge. Positioning the discussion in relation to ongoing debates in DH, the volume argues that laboratory studies are in an excellent position to capitalize on the theories and knowledge developed in the DH field and open up new research inquiries.     Abstract: This open access book is written for educators and policymakers who seek to empower young people with competencies necessary for fulfilling lives in the 21st century. It reports how a large group of educators from government and civil society organisations, together with researchers from universities, used their curriculum, assessment, and social economy expertise to develop contextualised definitions of life skills and values, and associated assessment tools. The book also reports on levels of these competencies of over 45,000 adolescents, from a household-based assessment conducted in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The results describe how these adolescents vary in proficiency by region, age, and other factors, providing a resource for national education ministries to factor into policy decisions.     Abstract: La educación básica regular se encuentra en una encrucijada de retos y problemas que van más allá de límites y disciplinas. Este libro, titulado Carolinos en Acción, se presenta como resultado de la aplicación de una estrategia didáctica y metodológica que brinda y propone una transformación en las prácticas pedagógicas a partir de la investigación escolar como herramienta pedagógica, que busca el desarrollo de un pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes carolinos, también fortalece las competencias científicas y la formación de un ciudadano de bien. La investigación escolar tiene gran trascendencia y existen precedentes de su amplio recorrido. Sin embargo, parece ser relegado, mal interpretada o no ser considerada adecuadamente en el marco de la práctica docente en la educación básica, y se limita a trasladar la tarea a escenarios futuros del estudiante como el nivel universitario o de educación superior donde es llevada a cabo por expertos en temas específicos. Lo contrario invitaría a la desmitificación de ciertos paradigmas de la investigación escolar, en los que se brinde apoyo al estudiante como agente de generación de conocimiento, se aleje al estudiante de la formación principalmente in situ, se dinamice la formación en investigación a través de la práctica, y se permite al docente reflexionar y cuestionar la información revisada, y aprender a problematizar los elementos que están en su entorno. La IEI Glorioso San Carlos busca facilitar espacios de encuentro y debate de opiniones entre docentes y estudiantes como fuente de investigación, privilegiando la iniciativa y la creatividad del estudiante y su lugar expectante entre la enseñanza y la investigación, considerando como objetivo de la investigación el hacer y producir. Cada uno de los ensayos de este resumen aborda un tema que fue elegido libremente por cada participante quienes fueron fortalecidos en la competencia escribe diversos tipos de textos y en el uso de herramientas de investigación como: uso adecuado del Word, uso del aplicativo Mendeley, búsqueda de información (bases de datos), citas y referencias en APA7, entre otros. Para la concreción de la presente publicación se implementó el proyecto de innovación “Aprendo a investigar desde mi colegio” aprobado mediante RD N° 242-2023-DREP-UGELP-DGCNSC, dirigido principalmente a estudiantes del tercer, cuarto y quinto grado de educación secundaria, considerando la investigación en la escuela como un reto para la comunidad educativa, de cara al bicentenario y como parte del Eje 3 Investigación e Innovación del Plan Bicentenario de la Institución Educativa Integrada Glorioso Colegio Nacional de San Carlos – Puno, que será un hito en el panorama educativo de la comunidad educativa que responda a la visión de la IEI. Se espera que este resumen no solo alimente la discusión académica, sino que también fomente la acción necesaria para abordar los desafíos importantes que marcarán el futuro de la educación básica y posicione a la IEI Glorioso Colegio Nacional San Carlos como promotor de la investigación escolar
