Abstract: The Görlitzer Geschossbücher are the registers of the property and wealth tax, which were collected from the 15th to the 19th century in Görlitz twice a year. The registers were written in large paper booklets and subsequently bound together in large volumes in chronological order. The volumes are preserved in Ratsarchiv Görlitz as libri exactorum almost completely from 1426 on. The lists for the city and the suburbs were listed in separate registers. The winter floor for the year 1500 is available here as an edition. Each house forms a paragraph with the respective tax items. Each paragraph begins with the name of the owner in bold type. The tenants appear at the end of the entry in an engaged position. The tax items are varied. The owner paid a house tax (per domo) of about 0.6% of the value of the house. The owners then paid a stove tax (pro foco) of three Groschen. Tenants, on the other hand, were usually subject to a table tax (per mensa) of two Groschen. Among the frequent items also included the garden tax (per orto) and the tax on moving goods (mobilia). The sums are given in Görlitzer currency, in Heller, Pfennig / Denar (3 Heller), Groschen (7 Pfennig), Schock (60 Groschen) and Mark (48 Groschen). A special feature of the book edited here is the list of household values on the left margin. In addition, the mortgage number and the addresses, which were reconstructed by the archivist Richard Jecht, are present in the edition on the right margin. For the suburb, such a reconstruction is impossible, but the book of the suburb is ordered by street, so that a spatial classification is possible. Accordingly, the source is suitable for socio-historical and socio-topographical studies. Participants in the edition were Johanna Blender, Kerstin Botsch, Maren Fettback, Kathleen Hertel, Benjamin Huang, Magdalena Janik, Mattis Lehmann, Sebastian Negraszus, Nam Nguyen, Domenic Teipelke, Luca Tilly and Wiebke Weigmann under the supervision of Colin Arnaud.

Abstract: The ability to mix minute quantities of fluids is critical in a range of recent and emerging techniques in engineering, chemistry and life sciences, with applications as diverse as inkjet printing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, specialty and hazardous chemical manufacturing, DNA analysis and disease diagnosis. The multidisciplinary nature of this field – intersecting engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, microtechnology and biotechnology – means that the community of engineers and scientists now engaged in developing microfluidic devices has entered the field from a variety of different backgrounds. Micromixers is uniquely comprehensive, in that it deals not only with the problems that are directly related to fluidics as a discipline (aspects such as mass transport, molecular diffusion, electrokinetic phenomena, flow instabilities, etc.) but also with the practical issues of fabricating micomixers and building them into microsystems and lab-on-chip assemblies. With practical applications to the design of systems vital in modern communications, medicine and industry this book has already established itself as a key reference in an emerging and important field. The 2e includes coverage of a broader range of fabrication techniques, additional examples of fully realized devices for each type of micromixer and a substantially extended section on industrial applications, including recent and emerging applications. Introduces the design and applications of micromixers for a broad audience across chemical engineering, electronics and the life sciences, and applications as diverse as lab-on-a-chip, ink jet printing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and DNA analysis Helps engineers and scientists to unlock the potential of micromixers by explaining both the scientific (microfluidics) aspects and the engineering involved in building and using successful microscale systems and devices with micromixers The author's applied approach combines experience-based discussion of the challenges and pitfalls of using micromixers, with proposals for how to overcome them
