    Abstract: Die Mütter tragen ihre Säuglinge in einem Tragegurt aus Bast oder aus weichgeklopfter Baumrinde auf der linken (Herz-) Seite. Das Kleinkind wird von Anfang an überall mit hingenommen und es wird ihm bei jedem Verlangen die Brust gegeben. Brustgeben beobachtet man auch, wenn Kinder unruhig sind oder bei Manifestationen wie Fremdenfurcht; cf. Beruhigungssaugen. Sehr frühzeitig lernt das Kleinkind neben der Mutter als Hauptbezugsperson auch noch andere Gesichter kennen, sog. Betreuerinnen, die mit ihm schäkern und es herzen und lausen, ihm auch die Brust geben und es küssen.
    Abstract: This film shows social interactions between the mother and her infant as well as behaviour patterns of different other women group members while baby-sitting in a group. The mother carries her infant always in a strap made of bast or softened bark on the left (heart) body side. The infant thus accompanies his mother whereever she goes. The mother always gives suck when the child wants it. Breast offering is also observed when the infant is troublesome or in manifestations like fear of strangers; cf. comfort sucking. Very soon the infant becomes familiar, besides the mother as the main reference person, with many other faces, so-called "female helpers" or "aunts" who joke with him, hug him, even give suck and also kiss him. The kiss cannot be observed between adult Bayaka Pygmies.

    Abstract: Bei der Festigung sozialer Bindungen spielt das Lausen eine große Rolle. Anfangs lausen sich zwei Mädchen gegenseitig. Ein hinzukommender junger Mann wird kurz gelaust. Danach fordert ein anderer die beiden Mädchen zum Lausen auf, und es entwickelt sich eine längere Interaktion, in deren Verlauf der junge Mann gelaust und gekrault wird. Auch die beiden Mädchen erweisen einander die Gunst, obgleich es leichte Anzeichen einer Rivalität gibt.
    Abstract: The film shows first grooming interactions between two adolescent girls. Then a young man is groomed for a short time. Another adolescent boy shows grooming invitation towards a girl by head-to-head-rubbing and pulling with his hand the hand of one of the girls, resulting in a longer interaction of hetero-sexual grooming. This behaviour plays an important role in becoming familiar with each other during pair formation and serves to fasten and maintain a friendly relationship. In this context, the ritualized form of delousing, the Kraulen (cannot be translated, perhaps as gently fondling the headhair) is of special importance as shown by the example of Mombuka and Mongatschu. It is also demonstrated how moments of tension (or jealousy?) for the favour of the young man can arise between these two girls which may lead to frustration.

It also shows the occasional involvement of other reference persons from the residential group in caring for the children. Moreover, the film also documents explorative behaviour of toddlers in the immediate vivinity of their mothers.

    Abstract: Ein kleiner Junge, etwa 2 Jahre alt, und seine etwa 5jährige Schwester spielen vor ihrer Hütte unter Aufsicht ihrer Mutter. Es kommt dabei zu Interaktionen von Rivalität, kontrollierter Aggression und Eingreifen der Mutter. Später spielen die beiden allein, wobei auf Distanz aggressive und/oder kämpferische Handlungen mimisch dargestellt werden; besonders tut dies der Junge. (Spiegelaufnahmen)
    Abstract: A little two-year-old boy and his approximately five-year-old sister are playing in front of their hut under the eyes of their mother. During the children's interactions many instances of rivalry and aggressive quarrels about the object with which they are playing can be observed. The little boy acts without any restraint, whereas his elder sister controls her aggressive intentions. There are only a few instances where the mother interferes. Later, both siblings are playing alone. Now we observe their mimic expression of menacing and fighting activities directed towards an imaginery person in "empty space", so to speak.
