Originally, it was the orchestra's task to help work up the chief warrior of the village for battle and to honour him after his victorious return from the war.     Abstract: The film shows the common confessional of monks of the Gelugpa sect on the occasion of the Tibetan Monastic Institute in Rikon being consecrated. The ceremony is conducted by LING RINPOCHE in the presence of TRIJANG RINPOCHE, the two spiritual teachers of the Dalai Lama, through whom the documentary takes on historical significance.

The instruments used are a lute (sharki), a two-stringed lute (cifteli), a reed-pipe (fyell) and, in the last song, a tambourine (def). The singers and musicians wear the Albanian costume of Zur near Prizren.

    Abstract: Vor einem Elefantenzahnorchester mit Trommeln ahmt der Nachfahre eines Berufskriegers tanzend und singend verschiedene Kampfsituationen nach. Er wird von drei Frauen, einem Glockenläuter, einem Blattwedler und einem Bläser umtanzt. Von einer weiteren Frau verspottet, tanzt er lebhafter.
    Abstract: For various activities, the Dan have groups of singers and musicians, whose playing is supposed to impart special qualities: strength for the bushclearers, majestic deportment for the chieftain, courage for the warrior. Here, an orchestra of seven elephant tusks and five drums incites the fighting-spirit of the village's greatest warrior, who, in dance form, demonstrates several battle situations.

    Abstract: Here we see several short theatralic scenes taken from the widespread cycle of life, death and reincarnation of Nangsa. The most important parts of the Tibetan wedding ritual are shown. Accompaniment is provided by an harmonica and a long-necked lute.

    Abstract: The film shows the performance of two Tibetan animal dances, a butterfly dance and a snow lion dance. The former is accompanied by a flute and a female solo voice, the dance of the snow lion by a large drum, a small drum, cymbals and flute.

    Abstract: Zur Darstellung seiner Heilkunst führt ein Schlangentänzer vor Sängern, zwei Trommlern und weiteren Tänzern symbolische Selbstverletzungen aus. Er zeigt anschließend tanzend gewagte Kunststücke mit einer Gabunviper.
    Abstract: A man dancing with an Gabun viper performs risky tricks, in order to prove that he is not afraid of the deadly bite of the snake. He and his accompanying fellows form a society of medicine men. The performance with the dangerous snake should prove to the public, that in fact the society possesses effective remedies.
