    Abstract: Im Dorf Dorong starb eine 80jährige Frau, die als Priesterin andere Frauen ausgebildet hat. Nach der Aufbahrung treffen Trauergäste ein. Frauen aus der Verwandtschaft halten Trauerwache und singen Klagelieder. Zwei Priesterinnen führen die Totenzeremonien durch. Am zweiten Tag wird die Tote in einen Einbaumsarg gelegt, der fest verschlossen wird. Am dritten Tag wird sie auf dem Friedhof beerdigt.
    Abstract: In Dorong village, near Tamiang, an eighty-year-old woman has died. She was a priestess (wadian), responsible also for the training of other women. The film presents the exposure of the corpse, the arrival of the mourners, and the ceremonies connected with this event. The ceremonies are performed by two priestesses, one having the function of a teacher. The second day the corpse is laid in the coffin, the third day the burial takes place in the cemetery.

    Abstract: In einem Gartenland auf einem Steilhang in Malingdam arbeiten Frauen und Männer in Gemeinschaftsarbeit: Aufreißen der Erde mit Grabstock, Erneuern der Terrassenstufen, Ausreißen und Verbrennen von Gras, Pflanzen von Zuckerrohr- und Bananenstecklingen, Jäten, Ernten von Taro und Süßkartoffeln.
    Abstract: In a garden area on a steep slope in Malingdam women and men are working in co-operative effort: Breaking the earth with a digging stick, renewing the terrace steps, pulling out and burning grass, planting sugarcane and banana cuttings, weeding, harvesting taro and sweet potatoes.

    Abstract: Architektur und Innenausstattung des 1873 erbauten Langhauses (50 m lang, 14 m breit, auf 30 Eisenholzträgern 15 m über dem Boden errichtet) und der Alltag seiner Bewohner sind Thema der Dokumentation: Reisanbau, Gewinnung und Weiterverarbeitung von Rotan, dörfliches Leben am Flußufer, Aspekte der Totenverehrung. Während eines Willkommenfestes, an dem das ganze Dorf teilnimmt, werden verschiedene Tänze aufgeführt.
    Abstract: The film shows the architecture and the interior decoration of a longhouse built in 1873 (50 metres long, 14 metres wide, constructed upon 30 ironwood girders 15 metres above the ground) and the daily life of its inhabitans: rice cultivation, collecting and processing rotan, village life on the river bank, aspects of the veneration of the dead. During a welcome festival, in which the whole village takes part, different dances are performed.

    Abstract: Der 56jährige Reisbauer Umi Tupai sitzt auf der Plattform seines Hauses in Palangan und schnitzt aus einem weichen Holz (Palantan) eine kleine Hampatong-Figur. Die Figur weist die Zeichen einer Schwangerschaft auf. In den Händen hält sie ein Kästchen, in dem das Zubehör für das Betelkauen aufbewahrt wird. Der Schnitzer benötigt ca. 3 Stunden für die Arbeit. Er ist der einzige Mann im Dorf, der diese Kunst beherrscht.
    Abstract: Seated on the platform of his house at Palangan, the 56-year-old rice-grower Umi Tupai carves a small hampatong figure in soft pelantan wood. The female figure shows the signs of pregnancy. In the hands she holds a small box containing the utensils for betel-chewing. It takes the carver three hours to achieve the figure. He is the only man in the village skilled in this art.
