Abstract:
Steenbokhaut wird bearbeitet: Spannen, Trocknen, Schaben; nach einer Behandlung mit Fett und heißem Wasser Enthaaren, Walken mit der Hand. Die Halsgegend der bearbeiteten Haut wird nach Anfeuchten mit Löchern versehen. Der Köcher wird in die Haut gesteckt und verschnürt. Die beim Trocknen entstehende Spannung gibt dem Köcher festen Halt. Die Haut der Vorder- und Hinterläufe wird zu Tragriemen zusammengebunden. An ihnen wird eine Schlaufe für den Bogen und eine Tasche für die Speerspitze angebracht.
Abstract:
A hunter skins a snared steenbok in such a manner that he is able to pull the skin over its head. It is then stretched (inside out) over two vertical springy sticks planted in the ground. The bottom of the skin is pegged out in a circle on the ground. When dry the skin is scraped on its underside, rubbed with fat, and soaked with hot water. It is then turned outside in and plucked of all its hairs. Then the skin is kneaded between the hands until dry and thoroughly soft. The neck-region is again moistened. Small eyelets are cut into the end of the neck-region so that a loop for closing this end can be threaded through them. The bag is then turned inside out again and the quiver is pushed hard into the narrow neck-region. When the moist neck section of the skin has dried here, it contracts tightly around the quiver. The legs are tied together to form carrying straps. A loop for the bow and a small pocket for the spearpoint are added as a final embellishment.
