Abstract:
An Ica-man cuts the leaves of a big agave-plant and scrapes them on a wooden block with a huge paddle-like stick to free the fibers of their green outer covering. Then he washes the fibers and hangs them over the wall of the village to dry. Later two women take the fibers and twist them slightly together by hand, forming a long continuous yarn, which they twine and ply afterwards with the help of a special instrument called carrumba.
