Abstract:
Der Caveur transportiert seine Trüffelsau per Auto in ein trüffelfündiges Gebiet des Périgord. Das locker geführte Schwein lokalisiert eine Fruchtstelle und wird durch Futterbelohnung abgelenkt. Der Caveur gräbt die Trüffeln aus, die später auf dem Markt verkauft werden.
Abstract:
It is a unique feature that since long ago, in the Périgord (Southern France) pigs have been used in search of the subterraneous fruits of truffles. Studies of the literature, inquiries and own observations (film) revealed that a good truffle pig shows a spontaneous preference of truffle odour or truffle taste. In searching the truffles, visual orientation does not play any significant role, and even under a thin layer of snow or sleet a good truffle pig can locate fruiting truffles olfactorily. The smallest amount of subterraneous truffles thus located is only about the size of a grain of maize. Truffles are located from a maximum distance of about 5 m. To prevent the truffle from being eaten by the pig the Caveur offers a food reward and digs out to find himself. Often, however, the pig is diverted by a blow with a stick, so that a partial deconditioning may occur.
