Abstract:
Am Anfang der Trockenzeit tanzen zwischen den Hütten und dem Maskenhaus des Sommerdorfes Jatobá zwei Maskenpaare: Im Maskenhaus legen die Burschen die dreiteilige Maskenkleidung an, tanzen wiederholt singend und Rasseln schlagend paarweise auf das Dorf zu und kehren zurück. Frauen tanzen den Masken entgegen. Anschließend bereiten sie Essen für die Burschen im Maskenhaus. Vor dem Beginn der Feldarbeiten sammeln mehrere Männer Honig. Dann erfolgen die Abschlußtänze.
Abstract:
Spaced from each other the summer huts and the mask-house of the Javahé-village Jatobá are standing on a sandbank in a small river on the Bananal Island. Inside the mask-house several young men put on mask-dresses. They come out. Singing and shaking a rattle the masks are dancing in pairs towards the village and then return to the mask-house. This action is repeated. Out of the huts, the women approach the masks, dance with them seperated by a few steps, facing each other, and then return to their places, followed by the masks. For the men, living in the mask-house, food is prepared and then brought to them. Towards the end of the dry season the men move to the plains, to collect honey. After this, the mask dances are continued once again for a few days.
