The Color Factor shows that the emergent twenty-first-century recognition of race mixing and the relative advantages of light-skinned, mixed-race people is nothing new. In early America, light-skinned, mixed-race people were more likely to be freed from slavery, to be employed in more remunerative jobs, to accumulate more wealth, and to be taller and healthier.
