"Over the course of Slow Disturbance Rafico Ruiz takes a deep dive into the world of the historical North Atlantic extractive fishery and remains submerged within a largely forgotten and overlooked microcosm of the British colonial domain: Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. Britain's first colony was also its first resource frontier. Ruiz tracks this frontier through the lives of the settler fisherfolk that shored up the imperial fishery in this region from roughly the 1880s to the 1950s."
