    Abstract: The study provides an extensive legal, geopolitical and historical analysis of all controversial issues making up the Greek-Turkish maritime dispute: the delimitation of territorial waters, the national airspace, the delineation of exclusive economic zones and continental shelf as well as the issue of military presence on the Eastern Aegean islands and its relation to the Greek sovereignty over them. By immersing thoroughly into international jurisprudence, international treaties and historical facts, the book offers a detailed survey of legal precedents and legal regimes over similar issues worldwide. In this way, the reader has the opportunity to ascertain where every single legal and historical argument has been drawn from and its relevance in the international jurisprudence. Consequently, it follows the evolution of the dispute together with all its twists from 1973 to 2022 that saw a new low in the historically tense Greek-Turkish relationship. The book finally re-examines the dispute in the light of the new green energy geopolitics and the ongoing climate crisis and comes up with some suggestions for an alternative paradigm of co-existence in the Aegean Sea which in the author’s view is urgent and inevitable. .

    Abstract: Over the last two decades, fighting modern slavery and human trafficking has become a cause célèbre. Yet large numbers of researchers, non-governmental organizations, trade unions, workers, and others who would seem like natural allies in the fight against modern slavery and trafficking are hugely skeptical of these movements.     Abstract: How do memory and remembrance relate to the specific mode of transitional justice that lays emphasis on restoration? What is captured and what is obliterated in individual and collective efforts to come to terms with a violent past? Across this volume consisting of twelve in-depth contributions, the politics of memory in various countries are related to restorative justice under four headings: restoring trust, restoring truth, restoring land and restoring law. While the primary focus is a philosophical one, authors also engage in incisive analyses of historical, political and/or legal developments in their chosen countries. Examples of these include South Africa, Colombia, Rwanda, Israel and the land of Palestine, which they know all too well on a personal basis and from daily experience. On 10 December 2020, the book was officially launched with a webinar which brought together the editors of the book and prof. Stephan Parmentier (KU Leuven) and prof.     Abstract: Die ›freiheitliche demokratische Grundordnung‹ (fdGO) ist Kern der ›wehrhaften Demokratie‹ der Bundesrepublik. Als zu schützendes Rechtsgut ist sie in den Art. 18 und 21 GG benannt. Sie legitimiert exekutive und judikative sowie Abwehr- und Überwachungsmaßnahmen gegen politische Akteur/innen. Die vorliegende Arbeit vollzieht die Genese der fdGO als überpositives Rechtsgut nach, das heißt, wie sie vom unklaren Begriff im Verfassungstext zu einer verallgemeinerten Formel geworden ist. Als Quellen dienen Verfassungs- und Gesetzgebungsprozesse sowie juristische Kommentarliteratur und Gerichtsurteile. Methodisch wird die juristische Argumentationsweise politikwissenschaftlich kontextualisiert – auch um einen politikwissenschaftlichen Zugang zu Rechtstexten zu entwickeln. Im Fokus stehen die Debatten im Parlamentarischen Rat, der Gesetzgebungsprozess des 1. Strafrechtsänderungsgesetzes von 1951, die Parteiverbotsurteile des Bundesverfassungsgerichts und die ersten Kommentare zum Grundgesetz. Zudem stehen das Konzept der ›wehrhaften Demokratie‹ und die dazugehörigen geschichtspolitischen Legitimationen mit Bezug zu Weimarer Republik und Nationalsozialismus auf dem Prüfstand. Die Autorin gleicht die verschiedenen Positionen im staatsrechtstheoretischen »Weimarer Methodenstreit« mit nationalsozialistischen Rechtsauffassungen ab und zeigt so Traditionslinien auf, die sich auch in den Begründungen des Konzepts der ›wehrhaften Demokratie‹ wiederfinden. Deutlich wird dabei, dass die Narrative von der ›wehrlosen‹ Weimarer Republik und der ›legalen‹ Machtübernahme des Nationalsozialismus juristisch- zeitgeschichtlich überprüft werden müssen. Nach der historischen Kontextualisierung der fdGO werden ihre Ausbreitung und Anwendung in verschiedene Rechts- und Politikbereiche beleuchtet. Abschließend fragt die Studie nach den Konsequenzen des juristischen Blicks für politisches Handeln.

    Abstract: After a landslide electoral victory in 2006, Evo Morales became the first indigenous President of Bolivia. Morales's stunning ascent was mirrored by the rising fortunes of his political party, the leftist Movimiento al Socialismo, which today continues to challenge the status quo in Bolivian politics and implement ambitious social reforms. This study examines how the state and social movements have impacted democratization in Bolivia, along with other sectors such as NGOs and the media. New or reformed constitutions have proliferated, protecting social, economic, and political rights. While constitutional courts in Latin America have traditionally been used as ways to limit power and preserve the status quo, the evidence shows that they are evolving into a functioning part of contemporary politics and a central component of a system of constitutional justice. This book lays bare the political roots of this transformation, outlining a new way to understand judicial design and the very purpose of constitutional justice. Authors Daniel M. Brinks and Abby Blass use case studies drawn from nineteen Latin American countries over forty years to reveal the ideas behind the new systems of constitutional justice. They show how constitutional designers entrust their hopes and fears to dynamic governance systems, in hopes of directing the development of constitutional meaning over time"--
    Abstract: "This project started many years ago, as an article-length project on the apparent diffusion of new models of courts throughout Latin America. A paper Dan Brinks was writing for APSA dovetailed with a paper Abby Blass was writing for a graduate seminar, and the project evolved through conversations between the two authors after that. Both Abby and Dan had other projects to attend to, so the collaboration moved slowly, but we both felt it was intellectually productive. In its early stages in particular, each of the authors contributed important elements and carried out a mutual back and forth that makes it difficult to separate each author's contributions to the initial conceptualization and measurement exercises. Similarly, the basic argument evolved out of conversations between the authors, with each pushing the other to clarify and specify the argument further. Through conceiving and writing the pieces we have called "Conceptualization" (now an article in the International Journal of Constitutional Law, and largely contained in chapter 2 and the Appendix) and "Determinants" (the theory and quantitative analysis that underpins chapters 3 and 4), we collaborated fully. This is the core of the intellectual contribution of the book, and our joint work on these pieces is the principal, though not the only, reason Abby is credited as a co-author"--

    Abstract: "Campaigns against prostitution of young people in the United States have surged and ebbed multiple times over the last fifty years. Fighting the U.S. Youth Sex Trade: Race, Gender, and Politics examines how politically and ideologically diverse activists joined together to change perceptions and public policies on youth involvement in the sex trade over time, reframing "juvenile prostitution" of the 1970s as "commercial sexual exploitation of children" in the 1990s, and then as "domestic minor sex trafficking" in the 2000s. Based on organizational archives and interviews with activists, Baker shows that these campaigns were fundamentally shaped by the politics of gender, race and class, and global anti-trafficking campaigns. The author argues that the very frames that have made these movements so successful in achieving new laws and programs for youth have limited their ability to achieve systematic reforms that could decrease youth vulnerability to involvement in the sex trade"--

    Abstract: In Deutschland sind viele klischeehafte Vorstellungen über die Scharia verbreitet. Das gilt auch für die angebliche Unvereinbarkeit von Demokratie und Islam oder die vorgebliche Neigung des Islam zur Gewalt. Rudolf Steinberg unterzieht diese Annahmen einer kritischen Betrachtung und fragt nach der institutionellen Verortung eines deutschen Islam. Er führt in einer tour d'horizon sachlich und differenziert durch die aktuellen juristischen und politischen Diskussionen. Denn "die" Scharia gibt es ebenso wenig wie "den" Islam.

    Abstract: La politique est omniprésente dans l'oeuvre littéraire de Louis Guilloux (1899-1980). Si le constat n'est pas nouveau, aucun travail collectif ne s'était jusqu'ici proposé de partir du texte littéraire pour en éprouver, sur ce point, les constances, les évolutions, les ruptures. Le résultat a l'avantage de sortir des clichés qui marquent un écrivain irréductible aux étiquettes simplifiantes et pourtant tenaces, de "l'écrivain du peuple" à "l'écrivain breton", en passant par le "franc- tireur". Les contributeurs - et c'est tant mieux - n'adoptent pas tous le même regard. Certains insistent sur la continuité des représentations politiques depuis ses premiers écrits (profond malaise devant l'embrigadement politique ; adhésion de surface aux téléologies politiques...). D'autres préfèrent souligner les évolutions, sinon les ruptures des années trente, après le soutien apporté à l'URSS. Mais Louis Guilloux s'il se situait à gauche "de naissance" comme il le disait lui-même, s'il condamnera les dérives staliniennes et les logiques politiques bureaucratiques le fera le plus souvent implicitement, comme "en sourdine", préférant s'attacher à travers la stylisation de ses personnages, à montrer que tout homme, y compris le pire des "salauds", mérite compassion parce qu'il conserve une part d'humanité. Ce livre rassemble douze contributions de spécialistes de Louis Guilloux, venus d'horizons différents (lettres, science politique, sciences de l'information et de la communication...) : Jean-Charles Ambroise, Pascal Dauvin, Arnaud Flici, Sylvie Golvet, Jean-Baptiste Legavre, Grégoire Leménager, Yves Poirmeur, Valérie Poussard-Fournaison, Anne Roche, Michèle Touret, Alexandra Vasic.

    Abstract: This book argues for a new reading of the political and ethical through the literatures of Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay from 1970-2000. Carlos Amador reads a series of examples from the last dictatorship and the current post-dictatorship period in the Southern Cone, including works by Augusto Roa Bastos, Roberto Bolaño, Ceferino Reato, Horacio Verbitsky, Nelly Richard, Diamela Eltit, and Willy Thayer, with the goal of uncovering the logic behind their conceptions of belonging and rejection. Focusing on theoretical concepts that make possible the formation of any and all communities, this study works towards a vision of literature as essential to the structure of ethics
