    Kurzfassung: Abseits der Brisanz des aktuellen Migrationsdiskurses beleuchtet Anne Thietz die Funktion von Sprache in Identitätskonstruktionen am Beispiel der sprachlich unauffälligen Hugenottennachfahren. Fluchtgeschichte, Konfession und das Französische sollen in den 300 Jahren seit Einwanderung zur Bildung einer Gruppenidentität beigetragen haben. Anne Thietz zeigt mit Fokus auf Sprachbiographien, welche Elemente hugenottisches Sein heute bestimmen. Auch als Plädoyer für den Erhalt der umstrittenen Begriffe Identität und Sprachidentität werden diese schließlich durch die interdisziplinäre Verbindung von Forschungstheorie und -methode neu modelliert und für empirische Untersuchungen anschlussfähig gemacht.

    Kurzfassung: Trans-afrohispanismos: puentes culturales críticos entre África, Latinoamérica y España is an innovative approach to Afro-Hispanic Studies. It focuses on the connections between peoples, territories, and media of expression at the confluence of Africa and the Hispanic world. The volume’s contributors apply perspectives from their respective areas of specialization to their examination of transcultural interactions in a diverse range of contexts. These include Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara, Spain, Morocco, Afro-descendant communities in Latin America and transnational spaces generated by digital technologies and contemporary migration. The volume offers an expanded understanding of Afro-Hispanic Studies and serves as a model of inquiry in a field whose hallmark is the mobility of people and knowledge. Destaca las conexiones entre gentes, territorios y medios de expresión en la confluencia de África y el mundo hispánico.     Kurzfassung: This book investigates the lives and stories of queer Maghrebi and Maghrebi French men who moved to or grew up in contemporary France. It combines original French language data from my ethnographic fieldwork in France with a wide array of recent narratives and cultural productions including performance art and photography, films, novels, autobiographies, published letters, and other first-person essays to investigate how these queer men living in France and the diaspora stake claims to time and space, construct kinship, and imagine their own future. By closely examining empirical evidence from the lived experiences of these queer Maghrebi French-speakers, this book presents a variety of paths available to these men who articulate and pioneer their own sexual difference within their families of origin and contemporary French society. These sexual minorities of North African origin may explain their homosexuality in terms of a "modern coming out" narrative when living in France. Nevertheless, they are able to negotiate cultural hybridity and flexible language, temporalities, and filiations, that combine elements from a variety of discourses on family, honor, face-saving, the symbolic order of gender differences, gender equality, as well as the western and largely neoliberal constructs of individualism and sexual autonomy

Er lebt in Hamburg und Südfrankreich, wo er neben Kriminalromanen auch politische Sachbücher schreibt. Zu seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zählen unter anderem die Bestseller Vom Glück, Franzose zu sein, Gauner muss man Gauner nennenund Der Ehrliche ist der Dumme. In seiner erfolgreichen Krimiserie um den Richter Jacques Ricou erschien zuletzt Das Schloss in der Normandie(Hoffmann und Campe 2015). Seit ihrer Gründung ist Wickert Secrétaire perpétuel der Académie de Berlin, die den kulturellen Austausch zwischen Frankreich und Deutschland fördert.

    Kurzfassung: Schmutz ist Materie am falschen Ort, eine Kategorie, die nur existiert, weil sie sich Platzanweisungen kultureller Ordnungen widersetzt. Eine Ästhetik des Schmutzigen artikuliert sich in Aushandlungen von kulturellen Formen und Normen, sozialen und politischen Machtkonstellationen. Das Buch untersucht die Beziehungen zwischen ästhetischen Modellen und Modellen des Zusammenlebens, die über den prominenten textuellen Ort von ›Schmutz‹ in karibischen Literaturen ausgehandelt werden. In der Karibik wurde die figurative Korrelation zwischen Schmutz, Abfall, Unreinheit und Gesellschaft im Kontext des Kolonialismus v.a. zur Rechtfertigung rassistischer Unterdrückungspraktiken instrumentalisiert. Ende des 20. Jh.s dominieren Entwürfe, die positiv Bezug auf Motivik und Metaphorik der ›Unreinheit‹ nehmen. Mit schmutzigem Realismus und karibischem Cyberpunk wird die Präferenz von Unreinheitsmodellen als imaginative Basis von Kultur(-kritik) allerdings hinterfragt.

Dans cet important ouvrage, l'auteur observe ce passage et propose aux lecteurs de mieux comprendre l'histoire du Québec à partir du traitement que l'on a fait aux enfants. Il éclaire de manière tout à fait originale les questions difficiles à affronter, comme celle des orphelins de Duplessis, de l'adoption des filles, de notre rapport très ambigu avec l'éducation. Cet ouvrage s'inscrit dans une perspective précise, réintroduisant le passé dans le présent ; il porte au jour ces idées de jadis qui aiguillent encore nos façons d'agir. Cela place l'enfance québécoise dans une position en apparence contradictoire : un pied dans la modernité, l'autre dans certaines pesanteurs de la société agraire qui subsistent malgré tout. Au moment où l'homme a tendance à être de plus en plus présenté, ou rêvé, comme un être isolé, autonome, responsable, guidé par sa raison, opposé à la collectivité contre laquelle il défendrait son « authenticité » ou sa « singularité », les sciences sociales ont plus que jamais le devoir de mettre au jour la fabrication des individus. L'auteur de ce livre s'attelle à cette tâche avec brio.

    Kurzfassung: The Book of the Order of Chivalry was written in Catalan by Ramon Llull between 1274 and 1276 and is one of the author's earliest works. After his death, it achieved a wide dissemination throughout Europe in part because it was considered the theoretical manual on knighthood par excellence. The book was written in Catalan for knights who might not have a knowledge of Latin. Llull devotes his treatise to the definition of the duties of a perfect knight. In addition, he is interested in delving into the religious and moral aspects of chivalry as well as in trying to reform this institution.This

    Kurzfassung: "Verbal performances are often encountered in the media where they are used to embody characters or social archetypes. Performed voices define the norm as well as the linguistic Others and by doing so circulate associated values and linguistic ideologies. This book explores the idea that, far from simply being exercises in verbal skill and flair, performances of social, ethnic or gendered voices in the media not only have the power to accomplish ideological work, they are also sites of linguistic tension and negotiation.Critically examining performances of French voices in the media, this book raises the following questions:- How are repertoires of voices constructed and subsequently perpetuated in the media? - How do the stereotypic personae these voices contribute to build become familiar to national as well as transnational audiences? - How do such performed voices reproduce hegemonic ideologies of standard and non-standard languages and participate in the perpetuation of social discriminations? - How are these performed voices commodified into cultural products of otherness that may later be reclaimed by stigmatized communities? Following an innovative framework which allows for analysis of performances of varied voices and their impact in the media sphere, Voices in the Media offers a new approach to the linguistics of media performance."--

    Kurzfassung: Bilingualism has given rise to significant changes in Spanish-speaking countries. In the US, the increasing importance of Spanish has engendered an English-only movement; in Peru, contact between Spanish and Quechua has brought about language change; and in Iberia, speakers of Basque, Galician and Catalan have made their languages a compulsory part of school curricula and local government. This book provides an introduction to bilingualism in the Spanish-speaking world, looking at topics such as language contact, bilingual societies, bilingualism in schools, code-switching, language transfer, the emergence of new varieties of Spanish, and language choice - and how all of these phenomena affect the linguistic and cognitive development of the speaker. Using examples and case studies drawn primarily from Spanish/English bilinguals in the US, Spanish/Quechua bilinguals in Peru and Spanish/Basque bilinguals in Spain, it provides diverse perspectives on the experience of being bilingual in distinct cultural, political and socioeconomic contexts

    Kurzfassung: La memoria épica de Amadou Hampâté Bâ pretende mostrar al lector que la novela L’étrange destin de Wangrin está profundamente inspirada en la épica subsahariana. Para ello, el autor de esta monografía relaciona al protagonista del relato con algunos de los principales héroes de las epopeyas de África occidental, por lo que este estudio permite adentrarse igualmente en el apasionante universo de la literatura épica de etnias como la fulani y la bambara. El saber tradicional que tanto atraía a Hampâté Bâ y que decidió salvaguardar ha condicionado la escritura de esta novela, de modo que la voz de los griots y de otros narradores oesteafricanos está presente en cada uno de sus capítulos. Parcelas de este acervo cultural como la religión, la magia, la función de la mujer en la sociedad y la historia de diversos reinos y países son abordadas en este estudio desde una perspectiva antropológica, sociológica y literaria con el fin de poner de manifiesto el estrecho vínculo existente entre la épica, género que transmitido oralmente desde tiempos ancestrales ha sido mucho más que un modo de distracción, y la novela de un erudito africano que consagró gran parte de su vida a divulgar la rica tradición de los pueblos al sur del Sáhara

    Kurzfassung: The analyses of German and Brazilian cultures found in this book offer a much-needed rethinking of the intercultural paradigm for the humanities and literary and cultural studies. This collection examines cultural interactions between Germany and Brazil from the Early Modern period to the present day, especially how authors, artists and other intellectuals address the development of society, intervene in the construction and transformation of cultural identities, and observe the introduction of differing cultural elements in and beyond the limits of the nation. The contributors represent various academic disciplines, including German Studies, Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Art History and the social sciences. Their essays cover a wide range of works and media, and the issues they address are relevant not only for each of the scholarly disciplines involved, but also in discussions of current cultural practices in connection to all forms of media. The collection thus serves as a model for further intercultural research, since it calls into question the very terms through which we understand the relationships between cultures, as well as their products, practices, and perspectives

    Kurzfassung: Über Kopftuch und Burka werden in Deutschland wie in Frankreich seit Jahren heftige Debatten geführt. Auslöser waren hierfür in Deutschland Entscheidungen des Bundesverfassungsgerichts aus den Jahren 2003 und 2015. In Frankreich erregen zwei Gesetze die Gemüter: das Kopftuchverbot für Schülerinnen 2004; ein generelles Verbot, mit einem Gesichtsschleier in der Öffentlichkeit aufzutreten, 2010. Nachdem der Europäische Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte dieses Verbot nicht beanstandet hatte, wurde auch in Deutschland ein Burka-Verbot gefordert. Die Kontroverse um Kopftuch und Burka stellt aber nur ein Symptom dahinter liegender Probleme dar: Wieviel Homogenität ist für ein friedliches Zusammenleben in einer multireligiösen Gesellschaft erforderlich? Auf wieviel Toleranz ist sie angewiesen? Aber auch, wo sind deren Grenzen? Die Antworten werden auch bestimmt durch das Verständnis des Verhältnisses von Staat und Religion, das Ausmaß an Laizität. Deren Konzepte in Frankreich und Deutschland nähern sich gerade angesichts der Verbreitung des Islam in beiden Ländern ungeachtet unterschiedlicher historischer Ausgangspunkte an.
