Abstract: In der zweiten Hälfte des 20.

Abstract: This important book assembles formative articles that demonstrate how business history emerged as a discipline from the interwar years until the present day. The essays, drawn from authors in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America, document the remarkable intellectual achievements of the field, as well as exploring the challenges it faced securing a wider impact on other disciplines. The book will appeal to both social scientists and historians interested to learn how the field of business history was shaped

Abstract: This research review includes classic works on the theoretical foundations of entrepreneurship research and provides important groundwork for future investigations. Professor Landström and Professor Lohrke have carefully selected the seminal, currently relevant and, in many cases, difficult-to-access studies within the field, covering the entrepreneurial processes of opportunity recognition, evaluation and exploitation. Reflecting the heavily interdisciplinary nature of the research, many of the papers have a basis in the spheres of economics, social sciences and strategic management

Abstract: The First and Second World Wars, the great depression, oil shocks, inflation, financial crises, stock market crashes, the collapse of the Soviet command economy and third world disasters are discussed in this comprehensive book. The contributors subject these disasters to in-depth assessment, carefully considering their costs and impact on specific countries and regions, as well as assessing them in a global context. The book examines the legacy of economic disasters and asks whether economic disasters are avoidable or whether policymakers can learn from their mistakes

Abstract: Do political decentralisation and inter state competition favour innovation and growth? There has long been a lively debate surrounding this question, going back to David Hume and Immanuel Kant. This book is a new attempt to test its veracity. The existing literature tends to assume that the beneficial effects of inter state competition have been confined to European history. By contrast, China, India and the Islamic Middle East are regarded as inherently imperial and overcentralised. However, these civilisations have not always been unified politically. In their history, there have been long spells of decentralised rule or inter state competition. The same is true for Japan. If the Hume-Kant hypothesis is correct, it should also apply to those periods. This volume analyses the qualitative and quantitative evidence
Abstract: 1. Introduction and overview -- 2. The political pattern of historical creativity : a theoretical case -- 3. Creative clusters, political fragmentation and cultural heterogeneity : an investigative journey through civilizations East and West -- 4. Lessons from the history of Imperial China -- 5. Advantages of centralized and decentralized rule in Japan -- 6. India -- 7. Islamic statecraft and the Middle East's delayed modernization

Abstract: This book explores the most prominent economic explanations of the Great Depression and how it affected the lives, experiences, and subsequent thinking of economists who lived through that era. Presented in interview format, this collection of conversations with Moses Abramovitz, Morris Adelman, Milton Friedman, Albert Hart, Charles Kindleberger, Wassily Leontief, Paul Samuelson, Anna Schwartz, James Tobin, Herbert Stein and Victor Zarnowitz provides a record of their reflections on the economics of the Great Depression and on the major events which occurred during those critical years. This volume is also another chapter in the legacy of the interwar generation of economists and is intended as a token of gratitude for the contributions they have made to the economics profession. Randall Parker has given us a window into the lives of these gifted scholars and an important glimpse into the world that shaped them
