    Abstract: Thomas Klinger analysiert das Verhalten von Menschen, die nach einem Wohnumzug mit einer andersartigen Mobilitätskultur in Kontakt kommen, also etwa aus einem autoorientierten in ein fahrradfreundliches Umfeld wechseln. Dabei steht die Frage im Mittelpunkt, ob die Anpassung an die neue Umgebung (Adaptionshypothese) oder die Weiterführung erlernter Verhaltensmuster (Sozialisationshypothese) überwiegt. Der Autor untersucht die Ursachen dieser Verhaltensänderungen, wobei neben raumstrukturellen Faktoren und Wohnstandortpräferenzen insbesondere das Erklärungspotential städtischer Mobilitätskulturen identifiziert werden soll. Im Anschluss werden die Ergebnisse mithilfe von multiplen Regressionsmodellen zusammengeführt.     Abstract: Für unser Wohlbefinden und für unsere Gesundheit ist es nicht gleichgültig, in welchem Verhältnis wir zu unserer Umgebung stehen. Landschaft und Natur, Orte, an denen wir uns aufhalten, sind wesentliche Rahmenbedingungen für ein gelingendes menschliches Leben. Es gibt „gute Orte“, in denen wir in einer Art von Resonanz gleichsam „aufblühen“, eben gut leben können. Derartig resonante Orte, Landschaften, Naturumgebungen können im Anschluss an Gesler auch als „Therapeutische Landschaften“ charakterisiert werden. Dieser Begriff bezeichnet die Qualitäten und Valenzen von Landschaften, die in einem sehr umfassenden Sinne gesundheitsfördernd sind, wobei sich diese Wirkung keineswegs allein aus ihren physischen Qualitäten ableiten lässt, sondern die auch auf symbolische Weise kulturell erzeugt ist. Um diesen Zusammenhang von Landschaft und seelischer ebenso wie körperlicher Gesundheit geht es in diesem Buch.     Abstract: Möglichkeiten und Restriktionen einer grenzüberschreitenden europäischen Regionalisierungspolitik werden am Beispiel der Großregion SaarLorLux in diesem Sammelband erörtert. Mit dem Fortschreiten der europäischen Integration sollten u.a. auch Prozesse einer verstärkten regionalen Identitätsbildung einhergehen. Allerdings sind Regionen bislang nur in begrenztem Maße politikfähig, und regionale Zukunftsfähigkeit setzt u.a. neben geeigneten Governance-Arenen eine verstärkte Institutionenbildung auf der jeweiligen regionalen Ebene voraus. Am Beispiel der Großregion SaarLorLux werden - ausgehend von der Unterscheidung zwischen einem integrationstheoretischen und einem neoliberalen Leitbild - die Ziele, die Historie, die Politikfelder, die Implementationen und die Begrenzungen eines ambitionierten europäischen Regionalprojekts reflektiert. Die Frage, ob Prozesse der Identitätsbildung mit einer neoliberalen Politik der transnationalen Wohlfahrtsoptimierung zu harmonisieren sind, wird in dieser Publikation interdisziplinär diskutiert.     Abstract: Die Beitragsautoren dieses Sammelbandes stellen aus parteilicher, intermediärer, reflexiv räumlicher und planungsbezogener Perspektive Konzepte der Sozialen Arbeit in der Stadtentwicklung dar und geben anhand von Fallbeispielen Einblick in die Chancen und Grenzen ihrer Umsetzung.     Abstract: In diesem Buch geht es um die Stadt als Organisationskontext und als lebendes System und die von der Zivilgesellschaft und der Bevölkerung ausgehenden Impulse zur Gestaltung und Absicherung von Inklusion.     Abstract: "The past thirty years have seen a proliferation of new forms of territorial governance that have come to co-exist with, and complement, formal territorial spaces of government. These governance experiments have resulted in the creation of soft spaces, new geographies with blurred boundaries that eschew existing political-territorial boundaries of elected tiers of government. The emergence of new, non-statutory or informal spaces can be found at multiple levels across Europe, in a variety of circumstances, and with diverse aims and rationales. This book moves beyond theory to examine the practice of soft spaces. It employs an empirical approach to better understand the various practices and rationalities of soft spaces and how they manifest themselves in different planning contexts. By looking at the effects of new forms of spatial governance and the role of spatial planning in North-western Europe, this book analyses discursive changes in planning policies in selected metropolitan areas and cross-border regions. The result is an exploration of how these processes influence the emergence of soft spaces, governance arrangements and the role of statutory planning in different contexts.This book provides a deeper understanding of space and place, territorial governance and network governance.     Abstract: "Across Europe there is a rapidly changing context for undertaking regional development. In the 20th century, development of the former planned economies (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia), was defined by these countries differences, rather than their common ideological roots. These disparities altered over time and were marked by changing social structures. However, the ranking of regions has remained the same as core areas have strengthened their positions while the structural obstacles to the modernisation of peripheral areas have remained due to a lack of coherent regional policy. This book examines the specific regional development paths of Central and Eastern European countries and evaluates the effects of the determining factors of this process. Through analysis of the system of objectives, instruments and institutions used in different eras, and case studies of Hungary, East Germany and Germany, development models are established and compared with Western European patterns. The book summarises the experiences of Central and Eastern European regional cooperation and examines the basic nature of the cohesion problems of the Carpathian Basin trans-national macro region. It confirms by comparative historical analyses that the transformation was indeed unique. This book will make a welcome addition to the literature for students and academics interested in the broader picture of Central and Eastern European politics, future integration within the European Union and the history of regional development processes"--

    Abstract: "Nationalism and ethnicity have become, across time and space, a force in the construction of boundaries. This book analyses geographical and physical borders and symbolic, political and socio-economic boundaries, and how they impact upon nationalism and ethnic identity. Geographic and other tangible borders are critical components in the making and unmaking of boundaries. However, symbolic or intangible boundaries along national, ethnic, political or socio-economic criteria are equally significant. Organised into three sections on theory, national and transnational case studies, this book both introduces existing approaches to the study of boundaries and illustrates how it is possible to apply renewed boundary approaches to better understand nationalism and ethnicity in contemporary contexts.     Abstract: "This book concludes a trilogy that began with Intelligent Cities: Innovation, Knowledge Systems and digital spaces (Routledge 2002) and Intelligent Cities and Globalisation of Innovation Networks (Routledge 2008). Together these books examine intelligent cities as environments of innovation and collaborative problem-solving. In this final book, the focus is on planning, strategy and governance of intelligent cities. Divided into three parts, each section elaborates upon complementary aspects of intelligent city strategy and planning. Part I is about the drivers and architectures of the spatial intelligence of cities, while Part II turns to planning processes and discusses top-down and bottom-up planning for intelligent cities. Cities such as Amsterdam, Manchester, Stockholm and Helsinki are examples of cities that have used bottom-up planning through the gradual implementation of successive initiatives for regeneration. On the other hand, Living PlanIT, Neapolis in Cyprus, and Saudi Arabia intelligent cities have started with the top-down approach, setting up urban operating systems and common central platforms. Part III focuses on intelligent city strategies; how cities should manage the drivers of spatial intelligence, create smart environments, mobilise communities, and offer new solutions to address city problems. Main findings of the book are related to a series of models which capture fundamental aspects of intelligent cities making and operation. These models consider structure, function, planning, strategies toward intelligent environments and a model of governance based on mobilisation of communities, knowledge architectures, and innovation cycles"--

    Abstract: "This collection clarifies the background of land and property problems in conflict-affected settings, and explores appropriate policy measures for peace-building. While land and property problems exist in any society, they can be particularly exacerbated in conflict-affected settings--characterized by unstable security, weak governance, loss of proper documentation as well as the return of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons. Unless these problems are properly addressed, they can destabilize fragile political order and hinder economic recovery. Although tackling land and property problems is an important challenge for peace-building, it has been relatively neglected in recent debates about liberal peace-building as a result of the strong focus on state-level institution building, such as security sector reforms and transitional justice. Using rich original data from eight conflict-affected countries, this book examines the topic from the viewpoint of State-society relationship. In contrast to previous literature, this volume analyses land and property problems in conflict-afflicted areas from a long-term perspective of state-building and economic development, rather than concentrating only on the immediate aftermath of the conflict. The long-term perspective enables not only an understanding of the root causes of the property problems in conflict-affected countries, but also elaboration of effective policy measures for peace. Contributors are area specialists and the eight case study countries have been carefully selected for comparative study. While land and property problems exist in any society, they can be particularly exacerbated in conflict-affected settings--characterized by unstable security, weak governance, loss of proper documentation as well as the return of refugees and Internally Displaced Persons. Unless these problems are properly addressed, they can destabilize fragile political order and hinder economic recovery. Although tackling land and property problems is an important challenge for peace-building, it has been relatively neglected in recent debates about liberal peace-building as a result of the strong focus on state-level institution building, such as security sector reforms and transitional justice. Using rich original data from eight conflict-affected countries, this book examines the topic from the viewpoint of State-society relationship. In contrast to previous literature, this volume analyses land and property problems in conflict-afflicted areas from a long-term perspective of state-building and economic development, rather than concentrating only on the immediate aftermath of the conflict. The long-term perspective enables not only an understanding of the root causes of the property problems in conflict-affected countries, but also elaboration of effective policy measures for peace. Contributors are area specialists and the eight case study countries have been carefully selected for comparative study.
