Abstract: "The edited volume Both Muslim and European: Diasporic and Migrant Identities of Bosniaks scrutinizes some of the new aspects of the Bosniak history and identity and connects them with the experience of migration and diaspora formation. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, to volume tackles a variety of important questions and issues such as: the impact of migration waves on the Bosniak identity; dealing with the experience of war, genocide and forced displacement; the dual cultural code of being "in-between the two worlds"; the role of religion, language and culture in everyday life; looking at translocal and transnational networks and practices. In addition to discussing the contemporary issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina, several chapters deal with the Bosnian migrant realities in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Australia, Turkey and the United States of America."

Abstract: While the Civil Rights Movement brought increasing opportunities for blacks, this period also saw the liberalization of American immigration policy. The same agitation that allowed blacks to vote also made it possible for increasing numbers of non-European immigrants to enter America for the first time. What has an expanded immigration regime meant for how blacks express national attachment? Using quantitative and qualitative data, this text helps us understand the context and constraint of white supremacy on the formation of black public opinion and national attachment.

Abstract: Between the Harlem Renaissance and the end of World War II, a discourse that privileged a representative ideal of brown beauty womanhood emerged as one expression of race, class, and women's status in the modern nation. This discourse on brown beauty accrued great cultural currency across the interwar years as it appeared in diverse and multiple forms. Studying artwork and photography; commercial and consumer-oriented advertising; and literature, poetry, and sociological works, this text analyzes African American print culture with a central interest in women's social history. It explores the diffuse ways that brownness impinged on socially mobile New Negro women in the urban environment during the interwar years and shows how the discourse was constructed as a self-regulating guide directed at an aspiring middle class.

Abstract: What is 'brown' in - and beyond - the context of American identity politics? How has the concept changed since 9/11? Kumarini Silva argues that 'brown' is no longer conceived of solely as a cultural, ethnic, or political identity. Instead, after 9/11, the Patriot Act, and the wars in Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan, it has also become a concept and, indeed, a strategy of identification - one rooted in xenophobic, imperialistic, and racist ideologies to target those who do not neatly fit or subscribe to ideas of nationhood.

So wird deutlich, wie sehr das Leben vieler Italiener auf die Rückkehr konzentriert war, wie vielmals die süditalienische Herkunft das Leben und die Arbeit in Deutschland prägte und wie relativ einflusslos die Politik gegenüber den Migrationsprozessen war. Das Buch stellt dabei ein brisantes Thema ins Zentrum: Die Migration nach Deutschland und die Möglichkeiten von Integration.

Abstract: Im Mittelpunkt des Buches stehen erzählte Lebensgeschichten von Berliner Unternehmern türkischer Herkunft. Der Autor setzt sich kritisch mit essenzialistischen Kulturkonzepten der immigrant business-Forschung auseinander und stellt die Frage, wie vermeintlich gegebene »kulturelle Grenzen« hergestellt werden und welche Rolle sie im Unternehmensalltag spielen. Hierzu wird das Konzept »Transkulturalität als Praxis« entwickelt. Diese Lesart der Biographien der Unternehmer zeigt nachdrücklich, wie Konstrukte »kultureller Grenzen« Handlungsrelevanz entfalten und wie sie in der Handlungspraxis - indem Akteure unbewusst oder strategisch auf sie rekurrieren - (re-)produziert, aber auch verändert werden. Damit ergänzt die Studie die aktuelle Diskussion über Inter- bzw. Transkulturalität um eine wichtige, innovative Perspektive.
