Abstract: Abstract What is the difference between a virtual machine and a Docker container? A virtual machine (VM) is like a house. It is fully contained with its own plumbing and heating and cooling system. If you want another house, you build a new foundation, with new walls, new plumbing, and its own heating and cooling system. VMs are large. They start their own operating systems. Containers are like apartments in an apartment building. They share infrastructure. They can be many different sizes. You can have different sizes depending on the needs. Containers "live" in a Docker host. If you build a house, you need many resources. If you build an apartment building, each unit shares resources. Like an apartment, Docker is smaller and satisfies specific needs, is more agile, and more easily changed. This IBM® Redbooks® publication examines the installation and operation of Docker Enterprise Edition on the IBM Z® platform.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you install, configure, and use the IBM z/OS® Management Facility (z/OSMF). z/OSMF is a product for z/OS that simplifies, optimizes, and modernizes the z/OS system programmer experience. z/OSMF delivers solutions in a task-oriented, web browser-based user interface with integrated user assistance. The goal of z/OSMF is to improve system programmer productivity, and make functions easier to understand and use. This improvement makes system programmers more productive as quickly as possible with the least amount of training. You can automate tasks, reduce the learning curve, and improve productivity through a modern, simplified, and intuitive task-based, browser-based interface. z/OSMF is aimed at a mixed skills workforce: It is suited to professionals who are new to z/OS and those who are skilled in z/OS. Each professional has their own needs and faces their own challenges. Novice system programmer might need to understand the "big picture" and how procedures are done. Novices also need access to documentation about procedures and tasks, and implement them according to the rules of the enterprise. Experienced system programmers are familiar with tasks and procedures. Therefore, the goal is to make their work less error-prone and easier. This goal allows them to be more productive and contribute more to their business. Although z/OS delivered simplification since it was introduced, z/OSMF brings a new dimension and focus to simplification. z/OSMF simplifies and modernizes the user experience and helps make pertinent information readily available and easily accessible.

Abstract: Abstract The IBM® Linear Tape File System™ (LTFS) is the first file system that works along with Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape technology to set a new standard for ease of use and portability for open systems tape storage. In 2011, LTFS won an Engineering Emmy Award for Innovation from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. This IBM Redbooks® publication helps you install, tailor, and configure the IBM Spectrum™ Archive Single Drive Edition (SDE) and the IBM Spectrum Archive™ Library Edition (LE) products. LTFS is a file system that was originally implemented on dual-partition linear tape (IBM LTO Ultrium 5 tape drives (LTO-5) and IBM TS1140 tape drives). Now IBM Spectrum Archive SDE and LE support IBM LTO Ultrium 8, 7, 6, or 5 tape drives, and IBM TS1155, IBM TS1150, and IBM TS1140 tape drives. IBM Spectrum Archive LE supports the IBM TS4500 tape library, IBM TS3500 tape library, IBM TS3310 tape library, IBM TS3200 tape library express, IBM TS3100 tape library express, and IBM TS2900 tape autoloader express. IBM Spectrum Archive makes tape look and work like any removable media, such as a USB drive. Files and directories appear on the desktop as a directory listing. It is now simple to drag files to and from tape. Any application that is written to use disk files works with the same files on tape. IBM Spectrum Archive SDE supports stand-alone drives only. IBM Spectrum Archive LE supports tape libraries. IBM Spectrum Archive LE presents each cartridge in the library as a subdirectory in the LTFS file system. With IBM Spectrum Archive LE, you can list the contents and search all of the volumes in the library without mounting the volumes by using an in-memory index. This publication is intended for anyone who wants to understand more about IBM Linear Tape System products and their implementation. This book is suitable for IBM clients, IBM Business Partners, IBM specialist sales representatives, and technical specialists.

Abstract: Abstract This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the challenge that most data centers face when updating and modernizing their IT infrastructure. New business demands are driving new applications, joining, and creating in the digital world. A rich, meaningful digital experience is the key to effective engagement in today's integrated digital world. Companies are able to customize digital experiences for their employees with personalized, targeted content for fully connecting with customers, co-workers, and business partners in the most powerful and productive ways. To achieve this, a robust infrastructure is required. Speed of access to data is one of the most important factors. The development of the flash storage devices helped with the insatiable desire for data access speed, but even that is not enough for the most demanding uses. The needs of SAN switches, servers, and software defined infrastructure (SDI) technologies are all requiring more; therefore, the bigger picture needs to be wholly analyzed to build a balanced ecosystem. This publication can help you with planning for growth in your IT infrastructure. This publication explores the concept of modernization and considers important aspects of IT, such as SAN switches, storage systems, and software defined storage.

Abstract: Abstract This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you with the planning, installation, and configuration of the new IBM Spectrum™ Archive V1.2.5.1 for the IBM TS3310, IBM TS3500, IBM TS4300, and IBM TS4500 tape libraries. IBM Spectrum Archive™ EE enables the use of the LTFS for the policy management of tape as a storage tier in an IBM Spectrum Scale™ based environment. It helps encourage the use of tape as a critical tier in the storage environment. This is the fifth edition of IBM Spectrum Archive Installation and Configuration Guide. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can run any application that is designed for disk files on a physical tape media. IBM Spectrum Archive EE supports the IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 8, 7, 6, and 5 tape drives in IBM TS3310, TS3500, TS4300, and TS4500 tape libraries. In addition, IBM TS1155, TS1150, and TS1140 tape drives are supported in TS3500 and TS4500 tape library configurations. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can play a major role in reducing the cost of storage for data that does not need the access performance of primary disk. The use of IBM Spectrum Archive EE to replace disks with physical tape in tier 2 and tier 3 storage can improve data access over other storage solutions because it improves efficiency and streamlines management for files on tape. IBM Spectrum Archive EE simplifies the use of tape by making it transparent to the user and manageable by the administrator under a single infrastructure. This publication is intended for anyone who wants to understand more about IBM Spectrum Archive EE planning and implementation. This book is suitable for IBM clients, IBM Business Partners, IBM specialist sales representatives, and technical specialists.

Abstract: Abstract It's easy to look at the title of a book and think "that's old news" or "I already know all there is to know on that subject." But before you dismiss this publication, consider just how far the IBM® Parallel Sysplex® architecture has come. From the early days the mainframe has embraced a shared everything approach. The original designers coded IBM z/OS® (called IBM MVS™ or IBM OS/390® back then) with the functionality necessary for the operating system to create the repositories, manage the data flow, and ensure the integrity of the systems involved. From there, the middleware systems provided the exploitation and advanced functions to mature the technology. The component in the middle of all this great technology can easily be taken for granted. That is the IBM Coupling Facility. This IBM Redbooks® publication discusses both traditional uses for the IBM Coupling Facility technology and new ways to use it with products such as IBM CICS®. You can learn how to perform new functions and have these functions benefit from the scalability and availability achieved only in a mainframe ecosystem. Open standards are a large part of considerations today, as most companies run IT shops with a mix of technology components. As the world embraces these technologies, it is necessary to understand how to mix the world of mainframe architectures and products with other open architectures. This mix allows the best tool to be used to solve processing needs, at the right cost and service levels. Often the functions needed for modern processing can be found in house, in places where staff are skilled and that already deliver the robust production environments you count on daily. This book discusses these modern functions and how to achieve them with CICS use of the IBM Coupling Facility. You will learn how one IBM client, Walmart, took these concepts far beyond the original design as they share their experiences and even share code examples to help you get started. The last chapter of this book shows what can be achieved when a combination of old and new functions are use together. Even if you have familiarity with what could be done with the IBM Coupling Facility in the past, there is much to learn and deploy in a modern world. Those who are familiar with the IBM Coupling Facility might find the content of this book helpful. Additionally, readers who are considering how to use the IBM Coupling Facility technology within their environment might also find ...

Abstract: Abstract This IBM® Redbooks® publication gives a broad understanding of storage clouds and the initial functionality that was introduced for mainframes to have Transparent Cloud Tiering. IBM DFSMS and the IBM DS8880 added functionality to provide elements of serverless data movement, and for IBM z/OS® to communicate with a storage cloud. They introduced the following key areas: A gateway in the DS8880, which allows the movement of data to and from Object Storage be using a network connection. DFSMShsm enhancements to support Migrate and Recall functions to and from the Object Storage. Other commands were enhanced to monitor and report on the new functionality. DFSMShsm uses the Web Enablement toolkit for z/OS to create and access the metadata for specific clouds, containers, and objects. DFSMSdss enhancements to provide some basic backup and restore functions to and from the cloud. This IBM Redbooks publication is divided into the following parts: Part 1 provides you with an introduction to clouds. You might be new to clouds or have a confused view of cloud terminology. If so, Part 1 is helpful in providing you with the basic knowledge you need. Part 2 shows you how we set up the Transparent Cloud Tiering in a controlled laboratory and how the new functions work. We provide points to consider to help you set up your storage cloud and integrate it into your operational environment. Part 3 shows you how we used the new functionality to communicate with the cloud and to send data and retrieve data from it..

Abstract: Abstract Business Intelligence (BI) is a broad term that relates to applications that analyze data to understand and act on the key metrics that drive profitability in an enterprise. Key to analyzing that data is providing fast, easy access to it while delivering it in formats or tools that best fit the needs of the user. At the core of any BI solution are user query and reporting tools that provide intuitive access to data supporting a spectrum of users from executives to "power users," from spreadsheet aficionados to the external Internet consumer. IBM® DB2® Web Query for i offers a set of modernized tools for a more robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution than the popular IBM Query for System i® tool (also known as IBM Query/400). IBM DB2 Web Query for i preserves investments in the reports that are developed with Query/400 by offering a choice of importing definitions into the new technology or continuing to run existing Query/400 reports as is. But, it also offers significant productivity and performance enhancements by leveraging the latest in DB2 for i query optimization technology. The DB2 Web Query for i product is a web-based query and report writing product that offers enhanced capabilities over the IBM Query for iSeries product (also commonly known as Query/400). IBM DB2 Web Query for i includes Query for iSeries technology to assist customers in their transition to DB2 Web Query. It offers a more modernized, Java based solution for a more robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution. Abstract: Learn how to access analytics from SAS Cloud Analytic Services (CAS) using Python and the SAS Viya platform. SAS Viya : The Python Perspective is an introduction to using the Python client on the SAS Viya platform. SAS Viya is a high-performance, fault-tolerant analytics architecture that can be deployed on both public and private cloud infrastructures. While SAS Viya can be used by various SAS applications, it also enables you to access analytic methods from SAS, Python, Lua, and Java, as well as through a REST interface using HTTP or HTTPS. This book focuses on the perspective of SAS Viya from Python. SAS Viya is made up of multiple components. The central piece of this ecosystem is SAS Cloud Analytic Services (CAS). CAS is the cloud-based server that all clients communicate with to run analytical methods. The Python client is used to drive the CAS component directly using objects and constructs that are familiar to Python programmers. Some knowledge of Python would be helpful before using this book; however, there is an appendix that covers the features of Python that are used in the CAS Python client. Knowledge of CAS is not required to use this book. However, you will need to have a CAS server set up and running to execute the examples in this book. With this book, you will learn how to: Install the required components for accessing CAS from Python Connect to CAS, load data, and run simple analyses Work with CAS using APIs familiar to Python users Grasp general CAS workflows and advanced features of the CAS Python client SAS Viya : The Python Perspective covers topics that will be useful to beginners as well as experienced CAS users. It includes examples from creating connections to CAS all the way to simple statistics and machine learning, but it is also useful as a desktop reference.

Abstract: Solve business problems involving time-to-event and resulting probabilities by following the modeling tutorials in Business Survival Analysis Using SAS®: An Introduction to Lifetime Probabilities, the first book to be published in the field of business survival analysis! Survival analysis is a challenge. Books applying to health sciences exist, but nothing about survival applications for business has been available until now. Written for analysts, forecasters, econometricians, and modelers who work in marketing or credit risk and have little SAS modeling experience, Business Survival Analysis Using SAS® builds on a foundation of SAS code that works in any survival model and features numerous annotated graphs, coefficients, and statistics linked to real business situations and data sets. This guide also helps recent graduates who know the statistics but do not necessarily know how to apply them get up and running in their jobs. By example, it teaches the techniques while avoiding advanced theoretical underpinnings so that busy professionals can rapidly deliver a survival model to meet common business needs. From first principles, this book teaches survival analysis by highlighting its relevance to business cases. A pragmatic introduction to survival analysis models, it leads you through business examples that contextualize and motivate the statistical methods and SAS coding. Specifically, it illustrates how to build a time-to-next-purchase survival model in SAS® Enterprise Miner, and it relates each step to the underlying statistics and to Base SAS® and SAS/STAT® software. Following the many examplesâ€"from data preparation to validation to scoring new customersâ€"you will learn to develop and apply survival analysis techniques to scenarios faced by companies in the financial services, insurance, telecommunication, and marketing industries, including the following scenarios: Time-to-next-purchase for marketing Employer turnover for human resources Small business portfolio macroeconometric stress tests for banks International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS 9) lifetime probability of default for banks and building societies "Churn," or attrition, models for the telecommunications and insurance industries

Abstract: Abstract This IBM® Redbooks® publication covers the background and implementation of the IBM CICS® asynchronous API, which is a simple, accessible API that is designed to enable CICS application developers to create efficient asynchronous programs in all CICS-supported languages. Using the API, application developers can eliminate the overhead that is involved in coding and managing homegrown asynchronous solutions, instead using a set of CICS-supported API commands to underpin CICS applications, which are more responsive and robust than ever. Initially, the book reviews the history and motivations of asynchronous processing in computing and the benefits involved when calling external services. It then introduces the asynchronous API itself and its commands. It also provides a range of scenarios, including sample code, that cover everything from the basics of making an asynchronous request to updating existing synchronous program calls, with the goal of illustrating how to harness the CICS asynchronous API to solve real business problems. Later chapters take a deeper dive into the capabilities of the asynchronous API for advanced use cases. Beyond application development, CICS provides a complete solution for system programmers to manage and monitor asynchronous business logic. Thus, the final chapters of this book cover enhancements to CICS monitoring, statistics, trace, and dumps. Using supporting CICS tooling, system programmers have greater insight than ever, with improved transaction tracking capabilities and CICS policies to provide maximum control and optimization of asynchronous processing in CICS environments.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you with the planning, installation, and configuration of the new IBM Spectrum™ Archive (formerly IBM Linear Tape File System™ (LTFS)) Enterprise Edition (EE) V1.2.1.0 for the IBM TS3310, IBM TS3500, and IBM TS4500 tape libraries. IBM Spectrum Archive™ EE enables the use of the LTFS for the policy management of tape as a storage tier in a IBM Spectrum Scale™ (formerly IBM General Parallel File System (IBM GPFS™)) based environment and helps encourage the use of tape as a critical tier in the storage environment. This is the second edition of IBM Spectrum Archive V1.2 (SG24-8333-00) although it is based on the prior editions of IBM Linear Tape File System Enterprise Edition V1.1.1.2: Installation and Configuration Guide, SG24-8143. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can run any application that is designed for disk files on a physical tape media. IBM Spectrum Archive EE supports the IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 7, 6, and 5 tape drives in IBM TS3310, TS3500, and TS4500 tape libraries. Also, IBM TS1140 and IBM TS1150 tape drives are supported in TS3500 and TS4500 tape library configurations.

Abstract: Regarding online transaction processing (OLTP) workloads, IBM® z Systems™ platform, with IBM DB2®, data sharing, Workload Manager (WLM), geoplex, and other high-end features, is the widely acknowledged leader. Most customers now integrate business analytics with OLTP by running, for example, scoring functions from transactional context for real-time analytics or by applying machine-learning algorithms on enterprise data that is kept on the mainframe. As a result, IBM adds investment so clients can keep the complete lifecycle for data analysis, modeling, and scoring on z Systems control in a cost-efficient way, keeping the qualities of services in availability, security, reliability that z Systems solutions offer. Because of the changed architecture and tighter integration, IBM has shown, in a customer proof-of-concept, that a particular client was able to achieve an orders-of-magnitude improvement in performance, allowing that client's data scientist to investigate the data in a more interactive process. Open technologies, such as Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) can help customers update single components instead of being forced to replace everything at once. As a result, you have the possibility to combine your preferred tool for model generation (such as SAS Enterprise Miner or IBM SPSS® Modeler) with a different technology for model scoring (such as Zementis, a company focused on PMML scoring). IBM SPSS Modeler is a leading data mining workbench that can apply various algorithms in data preparation, cleansing, statistics, visualization, machine learning, and predictive analytics. It has over 20 years of experience and continued development, and is integrated with z Systems. With IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator 5.1 and SPSS Modeler 17.1, the possibility exists to do the complete predictive model creation including data transformation within DB2 Analytics Accelerator. So, instead of moving the data to a distributed environment, algorithms can be pushed to the data, using cost-efficient DB2 Accelerator for the required resource-intensive operations. This IBM Redbooks® publication explains the overall z Systems architecture, how the components can be installed and customized, how the new IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator loader can help efficient data loading for z Systems data and external data, how in-database transformation, in-database modeling, and in-transactional real-time scoring can be used, and what other related technologies are av...

Abstract: The event-centric hybrid cloud integration revolves around applications running based on events or messages. The new event-centric approach to hybrid cloud aims to simplify the task of managing these messages while increasing the overall reliability of the system. Event-centric applications work well in the cloud due to the varying intensity and frequency of events. These fluctuations fit well into a cloud infrastructure that can dynamically scale to fit those needs. An event-centric approach cuts down on communication overhead for an application, thus helping to speed up the development process. IBM® Hybrid Integration Services is a set of hybrid cloud capabilities in IBM Bluemix® that allows businesses to create hybrid clouds by connecting their Bluemix environment to on-premises systems at the application programming interface (API), data, or event level. In November 2015, the IBM International Technical Support Organization (ITSO) IBM Redbooks® team published a Redbooks publication that covers hybrid cloud scenarios with Bluemix for API and data integrations, Hybrid Cloud Data and API Integration: Integrate Your Enterprise and Cloud with Bluemix Integration Services, SG24-8277, and can be found at the following website: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedbookAbstracts/sg248277.html?Open Hybrid Cloud Event Integration: Integrate Your Enterprise and Cloud with Bluemix Integration Services, SG24-8281 is a companion book to SG24-8277 and focuses on event-centric hybrid cloud integrations with Bluemix.

Abstract: For decades researchers and programmers have used SAS to analyze, summarize, and report clinical trial data. Now Chris Holland and Jack Shostak have updated their popular Implementing CDISC Using SAS, the first comprehensive book on applying clinical research data and metadata to the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) standards. Implementing CDISC Using SAS: An End-to-End Guide, Second Edition, is an all-inclusive guide on how to implement and analyze the Study Data Tabulation Model (SDTM) and the Analysis Data Model (ADaM) data and prepare clinical trial data for regulatory submission. Updated to reflect the 2017 FDA mandate for adherence to CDISC standards, this new edition covers creating and using metadata, developing conversion specifications, implementing and validating SDTM and ADaM data, determining solutions for legacy data conversions, and preparing data for regulatory submission. The book covers products such as Base SAS, SAS Clinical Data Integration, and the SAS Clinical Standards Toolkit, as well as JMP Clinical. Topics included in this new edition include an implementation of the Define-XML 2.0 standard, new SDTM domains, validation with Pinnacle 21 software, event narratives in JMP Clinical, and of course new versions of SAS and JMP software. Any manager or user of clinical trial data in this day and age is likely to benefit from knowing how to either put data into a CDISC standard or analyzing and finding data once it is in a CDISC format. If you are one such person--a data manager, clinical and/or statistical programmer, biostatistician, or even a clinician--then this book is for you.

Abstract: Transforming data from operational data models to purpose-oriented data structures has been commonplace for the last decades. Data transformations are heavily used in all types of industries to provide information to various users at different levels. Depending on individual needs, the transformed data is stored in various different systems. Sending operational data to other systems for further processing is then required, and introduces much complexity to an existing information technology (IT) infrastructure. Although maintenance of additional hardware and software is one component, potential inconsistencies and individually managed refresh cycles are others. For decades, there was no simple and efficient way to perform data transformations on the source system of operational data. With IBM® DB2® Analytics Accelerator, DB2 for z/OS is now in a unique position to complete these transformations in an efficient and well-performing way. DB2 for z/OS completes these while connecting to the same platform as for operational transactions, helping you to minimize your efforts to manage existing IT infrastructure. Real-time analytics on incoming operational transactions is another demand. Creating a comprehensive scoring model to detect specific patterns inside your data can easily require multiple iterations and multiple hours to complete. By enabling a first set of analytical functionality in DB2 Analytics Accelerator, those dedicated mining algorithms can now be run on an accelerator to efficiently perform these modeling tasks. Given the speed of query processing on an accelerator, these modeling tasks can now be performed much quicker compared to traditional relational database management systems. This speed enables you to keep your scoring algorithms more up-to-date, and ultimately adapt more quickly to constantly changing customer behaviors. This IBM Redbooks® publication describes the new table type that is introduced with DB2 Analytics Accelerator V4.1 PTF5 that enables more efficient data transformations. These tables are called accelerator-only tables, and can exist on an accelerator only. The tables benefit from the accelerator performance characteristics, while maintaining access through existing DB2 for z/OS application programming interfaces (APIs). Additionally, we describe the newly introduced analytical capabilities with DB2 Analytics Accelerator V5.1, putting you in the position to efficiently perform data modeling for online analyti...
