Abstract: Learn or refresh core statistical methods for business with SAS® and approach real business analytics issues and techniques using a practical approach that avoids complex mathematics and instead employs easy-to-follow explanations. Business Statistics Made Easy in SAS® is designed as a user-friendly, practice-oriented, introductory text to teach businesspeople, students, and others core statistical concepts and applications. It begins with absolute core principles and takes you through an overview of statistics, data and data collection, an introduction to SAS®, and basic statistics (descriptive statistics and basic associational statistics). The book also provides an overview of statistical modeling, effect size, statistical significance and power testing, basics of linear regression, introduction to comparison of means, basics of chi-square tests for categories, extrapolating statistics to business outcomes, and some topical issues in statistics, such as big data, simulation, machine learning, and data warehousing. The book steers away from complex mathematical-based explanations, and it also avoids basing explanations on the traditional build-up of distributions, probability theory and the like, which tend to lose the practice-oriented reader. Instead, it teaches the core ideas of statistics through methods such as careful, intuitive written explanations, easy-to-follow diagrams, step-by-step technique implementation, and interesting metaphors. With no previous SAS experience necessary, Business Statistics Made Easy in SAS® is an ideal introduction for beginners. It is suitable for introductory undergraduate classes, postgraduate courses such as MBA refresher classes, and for the business practitioner. It is compatible with SAS® University Edition.

Abstract: Together, big data and analytics have tremendous potential to improve the way we use precious resources, to provide more personalized services, and to protect ourselves from unexpected and ill-intentioned activities. To fully use big data and analytics, an organization needs a system of insight. This is an ecosystem where individuals can locate and access data, and build visualizations and new analytical models that can be deployed into the IT systems to improve the operations of the organization. The data that is most valuable for analytics is also valuable in its own right and typically contains personal and private information about key people in the organization such as customers, employees, and suppliers. Although universal access to data is desirable, safeguards are necessary to protect people's privacy, prevent data leakage, and detect suspicious activity. The data reservoir is a reference architecture that balances the desire for easy access to data with information governance and security. The data reservoir reference architecture describes the technical capabilities necessary for a system of insight, while being independent of specific technologies. Being technology independent is important, because most organizations already have investments in data platforms that they want to incorporate in their solution. In addition, technology is continually improving, and the choice of technology is often dictated by the volume, variety, and velocity of the data being managed. A system of insight needs more than technology to succeed. The data reservoir reference architecture includes description of governance and management processes and definitions to ensure the human and business systems around the technology support a collaborative, self-service, and safe environment for data use. The data reservoir reference architecture was first introduced in Governing and Managing Big Data for Analytics and Decision Makers, REDP-5120, which is available at: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/redp5120.html. This IBM® Redbooks publication, Designing and Operating a Data Reservoir, builds on that material to provide more detail on the capabilities and internal workings of a data reservoir.

Abstract: Transforming data from operational data models to purpose-oriented data structures has been commonplace for the last decades. Data transformations are heavily used in all types of industries to provide information to various users at different levels. Depending on individual needs, the transformed data is stored in various different systems. Sending operational data to other systems for further processing is then required, and introduces much complexity to an existing information technology (IT) infrastructure. Although maintenance of additional hardware and software is one component, potential inconsistencies and individually managed refresh cycles are others. For decades, there was no simple and efficient way to perform data transformations on the source system of operational data. With IBM® DB2® Analytics Accelerator, DB2 for z/OS is now in a unique position to complete these transformations in an efficient and well-performing way. DB2 for z/OS completes these while connecting to the same platform as for operational transactions, helping you to minimize your efforts to manage existing IT infrastructure. Real-time analytics on incoming operational transactions is another demand. Creating a comprehensive scoring model to detect specific patterns inside your data can easily require multiple iterations and multiple hours to complete. By enabling a first set of analytical functionality in DB2 Analytics Accelerator, those dedicated mining algorithms can now be run on an accelerator to efficiently perform these modeling tasks. Given the speed of query processing on an accelerator, these modeling tasks can now be performed much quicker compared to traditional relational database management systems. This speed enables you to keep your scoring algorithms more up-to-date, and ultimately adapt more quickly to constantly changing customer behaviors. This IBM Redbooks® publication describes the new table type that is introduced with DB2 Analytics Accelerator V4.1 PTF5 that enables more efficient data transformations. These tables are called accelerator-only tables, and can exist on an accelerator only. The tables benefit from the accelerator performance characteristics, while maintaining access through existing DB2 for z/OS application programming interfaces (APIs). Additionally, we describe the newly introduced analytical capabilities with DB2 Analytics Accelerator V5.1, putting you in the position to efficiently perform data modeling for online analyti...

The other two volumes are listed: The Virtualization Cookbook for IBM z Systems Volume 1: IBM z/VM 6.3, SG24-8147-01 The Virtualization Cookbook for IBM z Systems Volume 3: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12, SG24-8890 It is recommended that you start with Volume 1 of this series because IBM z/VM® is the base "layer" when you install Linux on IBM z Systems™. Volume 1 starts with an introduction, discusses planning, then describes z/VM installation into a two-node single system image (SSI) cluster, configuration, hardening, automation, and servicing. It adopts a cookbook format that provides a concise, repeatable set of procedures for installing and configuring z/VM by using the Single System Image (SSI) clustering feature. Volumes 2 and 3 describe how to customize your own Linux virtual servers on IBM z Systems hardware under IBM z/VM. The cookbook format continues with installing and customizing Linux. Volume 2 focuses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). It consists of the following key chapters: Chapter 1, "Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux on LNXADMIN" on page 3, describes how to install and configure RHEL onto the Linux Administration server, which performs the cloning and other tasks. Chapter 2, "Automated Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations by using kickstart" on page 27, describes how to use Red Hat's kickstart tool to create Linux systems. This tool is fundamentally different from cloning in that an automated installation is implemented. You can try kickstart and you can also try cloning. Understand that they try to accomplish the same goal of being able to quickly get Linux systems up and running, and that you do not need to use both. Chapter 3, "Service Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Red Hat Customer Portal" on page 37, describes how the Red Hat Network works. It provides centralized management and provisioning for multiple RHEL systems. Kickstart is an easy and fast way to provision your Linux guests in any supported Linux platform. It re-creates the operating system (OS) from the beginning by using the kickstart profile configuration file that installs the new OS unattended and sets up the new guest according to the definition that was previously set up in the kickstart file. Usually, Linux administration is performed by the same team that manages Linux on all platforms. By using kickstart, you can crea...

Abstract: Microservices is an architectural style in which large, complex software applications are composed of one or more smaller services. Each of these microservices focuses on completing one task that represents a small business capability. These microservices can be developed in any programming language. They communicate with each other using language-neutral protocols, such as Representational State Transfer (REST), or messaging applications, such as IBM® MQ Light. This IBM Redbooks® publication gives a broad understanding of this increasingly popular architectural style, and provides some real-life examples of how you can develop applications using the microservices approach with IBM Bluemix™. The source code for all of these sample scenarios can be found on GitHub (https://github.com/). The book also presents some case studies from IBM products. We explain the architectural decisions made, our experiences, and lessons learned when redesigning these products using the microservices approach. Information technology (IT) professionals interested in learning about microservices and how to develop or redesign an application in Bluemix using microservices can benefit from this book.

Abstract: IBM® DB2® for IBM z/OS® helps lower the cost of managing data by automating administration, increasing storage efficiency, improving performance, and simplifying the deployment of virtual appliances. By automating tasks such as memory allocation, storage management, and business policy maintenance, DB2 is able to perform many management tasks itself, freeing up Database Administrators to focus on new projects. This IBM Redbooks® publication introduces autonomics for DB2 for z/OS. IBM provides several different components that, when combined, can create an autonomic database environment. All these respective components cover certain aspects of autonomics, which can collaborate into one coherent solution. In our evolution of autonomics and the need to move to smarter systems there has been a bigger drive to the concept of "Active" versus "Passive" autonomics. With the inclusion of the IBM Management Console for IMS™ and DB2 for z/OS and the Autonomics Director, it is now easier than ever to make that transition by leveraging the strength of the DB2 Utilities Solution Pack for z/OS all in one standardized and centralized interface. This publication guides you through the business reasons for adopting autonomic solutions, and provides step-by-step guidance to implement these capabilities in your DB2 for z/OS configuration. This publication is of interest primarily to DB2 Database Administrators and DB2 Systems Programmers, and for anyone looking to understand the benefits of DB2 autonomic solutions.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication introduces the IBM Software Defined Environment (SDE) solution, which helps to optimize the entire computing infrastructure--compute, storage, and network resources--so that it can adapt to the type of work required. In today's environment, resources are assigned manually to workloads, but that happens automatically in a SDE. In an SDE, workloads are dynamically assigned to IT resources based on application characteristics, best-available resources, and service level policies so that they deliver continuous, dynamic optimization and reconfiguration to address infrastructure issues. Underlying all of this are policy-based compliance checks and updates in a centrally managed environment. Readers get a broad introduction to the new architecture. Think integration, automation, and optimization. Those are enablers of cloud delivery and analytics. SDE can accelerate business success by matching workloads and resources so that you have a responsive, adaptive environment. With the IBM Software Defined Environment, infrastructure is fully programmable to rapidly deploy workloads on optimal resources and to instantly respond to changing business demands. This information is intended for IBM sales representatives, IBM software architects, IBM Systems Technology Group brand specialists, distributors, resellers, and anyone who is developing or implementing SDE.

Abstract: SAP is a market leader in enterprise business application software. SAP solutions provide a rich set of composable application modules, and configurable functional capabilities that are expected from a comprehensive enterprise business application software suite. In most cases, companies that adopt SAP software remain heterogeneous enterprises running both SAP and non-SAP systems to support their business processes. Regardless of the specific scenario, in heterogeneous enterprises most SAP implementations must be integrated with a variety of non-SAP enterprise systems: Portals Messaging infrastructure Business process management (BPM) tools Enterprise Content Management (ECM) methods and tools Business analytics (BA) and business intelligence (BI) technologies Security Systems of record Systems of engagement The tooling included with SAP software addresses many needs for creating SAP-centric environments. However, the classic approach to implementing SAP functionality generally leaves the business with a rigid solution that is difficult and expensive to change and enhance. When SAP software is used in a large, heterogeneous enterprise environment, SAP clients face the dilemma of selecting the correct set of tools and platforms to implement SAP functionality, and to integrate the SAP solutions with non-SAP systems. This IBM® Redbooks® publication explains the value of integrating IBM software with SAP solutions. It describes how to enhance and extend pre-built capabilities in SAP software with best-in-class IBM enterprise software, enabling clients to maximize return on investment (ROI) in their SAP investment and achieve a balanced enterprise architecture approach. This book describes IBM Reference Architecture for SAP, a prescriptive blueprint for using IBM software in SAP solutions. The reference architecture is focused on defining the use of IBM software with SAP, and is not intended to address the internal aspects of SAP components. The chapters of this book provide a specific reference architecture for many of the architectural domains that are each important for a large enterprise to establish common strategy, efficiency, and balance. The majority of the most important architectural domain topics, such as integration, process optimization, master data management, mobile access, Enterprise Content Management, business intelligence, DevOps, security, systems monitoring, and so on, are covered in the book. However, there are several other a...

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication focuses on gathering the correct technical information, and laying out simple guidance for optimizing code performance on IBM POWER8® processor-based systems that run the IBM AIX®, IBM i, or Linux operating systems. There is straightforward performance optimization that can be performed with a minimum of effort and without extensive previous experience or in-depth knowledge. The POWER8 processor contains many new and important performance features, such as support for eight hardware threads in each core and support for transactional memory. The POWER8 processor is a strict superset of the IBM POWER7+™ processor, and so all of the performance features of the POWER7+ processor, such as multiple page sizes, also appear in the POWER8 processor. Much of the technical information and guidance for optimizing performance on POWER8 processors that is presented in this guide also applies to POWER7+ and earlier processors, except where the guide explicitly indicates that a feature is new in the POWER8 processor. This guide strives to focus on optimizations that tend to be positive across a broad set of IBM POWER® processor chips and systems. Specific guidance is given for the POWER8 processor; however, the general guidance is applicable to the IBM POWER7+, IBM POWER7®, IBM POWER6®, IBM POWER5, and even to earlier processors. This guide is directed at personnel who are responsible for performing migration and implementation activities on POWER8 processor-based systems. This includes system administrators, system architects, network administrators, information architects, and database administrators (DBAs).

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication explains the capabilities of IBM WebSphere® Application Server Liberty profile (Liberty profile), which is lightweight, easy to install, and fast to use. Liberty profile provides a convenient and capable platform for developing and testing your web and OSGi applications. The Liberty profile server is built by using OSGi technology and concepts. The fit-for-purpose nature of the run time relies on the dynamic behavior that is inherent in the OSGi framework and service registry. As bundles are installed or uninstalled from the framework, their services are automatically added or removed from the service registry. The result is a dynamic, composable run time that can be provisioned with only what your application requires and responds dynamically to configuration changes as your application evolves. This book can help you install, customize, and configure several popular open source technologies that can be deployed effectively with the Liberty profile server. The following popular open source toolkits for the Liberty profile server were selected for this book based on the significant enhancements they provide to the web application development process: Apache Maven Spring Framework Hibernate Jenkins Opscode Chef Arquillian MongoDB In this book, the Todo sample demonstrates the use of multiple open source frameworks or toolkits with the Liberty profile server, including Maven, MongoDB, Spring, JPA, Arquillian, Wicket, and others. The Todo sample is a simple application that can be used to create, update, and delete todo items and todo lists, and put the todo items into a related todo list.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication documents the strength and value of the IBM security strategy with IBM z™ Systems hardware and software. In an age of increasing security consciousness and more and more dangerous advanced persistent threats, IBM z Systems™ provides the capabilities to address the needs of today's business security challenges. This publication explores how z Systems hardware is designed to provide integrity, process isolation, and cryptographic capability to help address security requirements. We highlight the features of IBM z/OS® and other operating systems, which offer a variety of customizable security elements. We discuss z/OS and other operating systems and additional software that use the building blocks of z Systems hardware to provide solutions to business security needs. We also explore the perspective from the view of an enterprise security architect and how a modern mainframe has to fit into an overarching enterprise security architecture. This book is part of a three-volume series that focuses on guiding principles for optimized mainframe security configuration within a holistic enterprise security architecture. The series' intended audience includes enterprise security architects, planners, and managers who are interested in exploring how the security design and features of z Systems, the z/OS operating system, and associated software address current issues such as data encryption, authentication, authorization, network security, auditing, ease of security administration, and monitoring.

Abstract: The plethora of data that is created by the businesses of today is making storage a strategic investment priority for companies of all sizes. As storage takes precedence, the following major initiatives emerge: - Flatten and converge your network - Optimize and automate virtualization - Simplify management Storage is no longer an afterthought. Too much is at stake. Companies are searching for more ways to efficiently manage expanding volumes of data, and to make that data accessible throughout the enterprise. This demand is propelling the move of storage into the network. Also, the increasing complexity of managing a large numbers of storage devices and vast amounts of data is driving greater business value into software and services. With current estimates of the amount of data to be managed and made available increasing at 60 percent each year, this outlook is where a storage area network (SAN) enters the arena. SANs are the leading storage infrastructure for the global economy of today. SANs offer simplified storage management, scalability, flexibility, and availability; and improved data access, movement, and backup. Welcome to the cognitive era. The smarter data center with improved economics of IT can be achieved by connecting servers and storage with a high-speed and intelligent network fabric. A smarter data center that hosts IBM Storage solutions can provide an environment that is smarter, faster, greener, open, and easy to manage. This IBM Redbooks publication provides an introduction to the SAN and Ethernet networking, and how these networks help to achieve a smarter data center. This book is intended for people who are not very familiar with IT, or who are just starting out in the IT world.

Abstract: NOTE: This book contains information about technologies that have been superseded and it is retained for historical purposes only. IBM CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) has supported the deployment of Java applications since the 1990's. In CICS TS V1.3 (1999), IBM introduced the 'Pooled JVM' style of JVM infrastructure within CICS TS. This infrastructure was designed to be similar in nature to that which a CICS application developer for a language such as COBOL would be used to. It brought the benefits of the new Java language to CICS TS, without a dramatic change to the way CICS users thought of core concepts such as re-entrancy and isolation. As enterprise usage of Java evolved it began to make more and more use of multi-threaded environments where isolation was not a desired characteristic. Additionally, technologies such as OSGi (Open Service Gateway Initiative) evolved to overcome some of the original disadvantages of applying Java to an enterprise environment. As such, the limitations of the 'Pooled JVM' approach began to outweigh the benefits. In CICS TS V4.1 (2009), IBM introduced the new 'JVM server' infrastructure in CICS TS as a replacement to the 'Pooled JVM' approach. This 'JVM server' infrastructure provides a much more standard Java environment that makes the writing and porting of Java applications for CICS TS much simpler. In CICS TS V5.1 (2012), support for the old 'Pooled JVM' infrastructure was removed. While there is a relatively simple migration path from 'Pooled JVM' to 'JVM server', applications should no longer be written to the 'Pooled JVM' infrastructure. There are a number of more recent IBM Redbooks publications covering the replacement 'JVM server' technology, including: IBM CICS and the JVM server: Developing and Deploying Java Applications, SG24-8038 A Software Architect's guide to New Java Workloads in IBM CICS Transaction Server, SG24-8225[

Abstract: With a growing number of scientists and engineers using JMP software for design of experiments, there is a need for an example-driven book that supports the most widely used textbook on the subject, Design and Analysis of Experiments by Douglas C. Montgomery. Design and Analysis of Experiments by Douglas Montgomery: A Supplement for Using JMP meets this need and demonstrates all of the examples from the Montgomery text using JMP. In addition to scientists and engineers, undergraduate and graduate students will benefit greatly from this book. While users need to learn the theory, they also need to learn how to implement this theory efficiently on their academic projects and industry problems. In this first book of its kind using JMP software, Rushing, Karl and Wisnowski demonstrate how to design and analyze experiments for improving the quality, efficiency, and performance of working systems using JMP. Topics include JMP software, two-sample t-test, ANOVA, regression, design of experiments, blocking, factorial designs, fractional-factorial designs, central composite designs, Box-Behnken designs, split-plot designs, optimal designs, mixture designs, and 2 k factorial designs. JMP platforms used include Custom Design, Screening Design, Response Surface Design, Mixture Design, Distribution, Fit Y by X, Matched Pairs, Fit Model, and Profiler. With JMP software, Montgomery’s textbook, and Design and Analysis of Experiments by Douglas Montgomery: A Supplement for Using JMP, users will be able to fit the design to the problem, instead of fitting the problem to the design. Abstract: Analytics offers many capabilities and options to measure and improve data quality, and SAS is perfectly suited to these tasks. Gerhard Svolba's Data Quality for Analytics Using SAS focuses on selecting the right data sources and ensuring data quantity, relevancy, and completeness. The book is made up of three parts. The first part, which is conceptual, defines data quality and contains text, definitions, explanations, and examples. The second part shows how the data quality status can be profiled and the ways that data quality can be improved with analytical methods. The final part details the consequences of poor data quality for predictive modeling and time series forecasting.

Abstract: Understanding the basic concepts of character encoding is necessary for creating, manipulating, and rendering any type of character data. An encoding is involved whenever data is brought into SAS from various external sources; whenever data is transferred between SAS applications running different locales or across the network via thin clients; and when output is written to external files, SAS data sets, printers, or Web pages. In each of these cases, something can go wrong. It is the encoder's responsibility to ensure that the data is stored, processed, and rendered in the correct encoding. Manfred Kiefer's SAS Encoding: Understanding the Details explains the basic concepts of characters, encodings, glyphs, and fonts and gives practical examples of how to troubleshoot encoding problems. Addressed to the beginner as well as to the advanced SAS user, this book can help solve your encoding problems. It provides background information about encodings, shows how they are used with SAS software, and explains typical problems and ways to sort those out. It also presents examples of how to set up SAS software in an international environment.

Abstract: In SAS Statistics by Example, Ron Cody offers up a cookbook approach for doing statistics with SAS. Structured specifically around the most commonly used statistical tasks or techniques--for example, comparing two means, ANOVA, and regression--this book provides an easy-to-follow, how-to approach to statistical analysis not found in other books. For each statistical task, Cody includes heavily annotated examples using ODS Statistical Graphics procedures such as SGPLOT, SGSCATTER, and SGPANEL that show how SAS can produce the required statistics. Also, you will learn how to test the assumptions for all relevant statistical tests. Major topics featured include descriptive statistics, one- and two-sample tests, ANOVA, correlation, linear and multiple regression, analysis of categorical data, logistic regression, nonparametric techniques, and power and sample size. This is not a book that teaches statistics. Rather, SAS Statistics by Example is perfect for intermediate to advanced statistical programmers who know their statistics and want to use SAS to do their analyses. This book is part of the SAS Press program.

Abstract: This book guides researchers in performing and presenting high-quality analyses of all kinds of non-randomized studies, including analyses of observational studies, claims database analyses, assessment of registry data, survey data, pharmaco-economic data, and many more applications. The text is sufficiently detailed to provide not only general guidance, but to help the researcher through all of the standard issues that arise in such analyses. Just enough theory is included to allow the reader to understand the pros and cons of alternative approaches and when to use each method. The numerous contributors to this book illustrate, via real-world numerical examples and SAS code, appropriate implementations of alternative methods. The end result is that researchers will learn how to present high-quality and transparent analyses that will lead to fair and objective decisions from observational data. This book is part of the SAS Press program.

Abstract: In Statistical Programming in SAS, author A. John Bailer integrates SAS tools with interesting statistical applications and uses SAS 9.2 as a platform to introduce programming ideas for statistical analysis, data management, and data display and simulation. Written using a reader-friendly and narrative style, the book includes extensive examples and case studies to present a well-structured introduction to programming issues. This book has two parts. The first part addresses the nuts and bolts of programming, including fostering good programming habits, getting external data sets into SAS to construct an analysis data set, generating basic descriptive statistical summaries, producing customized tables, generating more attractive output, and producing high-quality graphical displays. The second part emphasizes programming in the context of a DATA step, in macros, and in SAS/IML software. Examples of statistical methods and concepts not always encountered in basic statistics courses (for example, bootstrapping, randomization tests, and jittering) are used to illustrate programming ideas. This book provides extensive illustrations of the new ODS Statistical Graphics procedures in SAS, a description of the new ODS Graphics Editor, and a brief introduction to some of the capabilities of SAS/IML Studio, such as producing dynamically linked data displays and invoking R from SAS.
