    Abstract: Das Buch weist angehenden und fortgeschrittenen Modellbahnern den Weg zum Aufbau ihrer digitalen Modelbahnsteuerung, anpassungsfähig an individuelle Wünsche, kompatibel mit dem Märklin-Standard, ausbaufähig und preiswert. Sein Schwerpunkt liegt auf der digitalen Steuerung mit dem CAN-Bus (Controller Area Network), den auch Märklin verwendet. CANgurus sind Funktionsblöcke aus Software und CAN-Decodern zur Steuerung einer digitalen Modelleisenbahn - also rollendes Material wie Loks, aber auch Weichen, Beleuchtung, Sound oder Signale. Das Buch nutzt zum Aufbau des Busnetzes ESP32-Module, die per WLAN kommunizieren. Das vereinfacht den Anlagenbau durch Wegfall eines Großteils der Steuerleitungen deutlich. Die Module sind in C++ programmiert und nutzen die vielen Bibliotheken und Makros aus der Arduino-Welt. Im Laufe der einzelnen Kapitel baut der Leser nahezu alle Komponenten, die zur Steuerung einer Bahn notwendig sind, selbst auf - entweder durch Stecken auf Breadboards oder durch Löten. Zwei Komponenten werden fertig gekauft: Die Märklin-Gleisbox und das Steuerungsprogramm WinDigipet, mit dem die Bahn vom PC aus gesteuert wird.
