Abstract: A mixture of crushed clay and horse's dung is mixed with water and kneaded. This pulp is later used to case the wax models. A model cast piece is ormed in wax. It shows the figure of a camel with saddle, intended as a headdecoration. On the wax model a thin layer of clay is first layed on to fill out the fine indentures and then a coat of firmer clay follows. The next day the dried form is heated, the wax melted out. A crucible with metal is fitted through a clay rim on the cast. The cast is heated in the forge. As soon as the metal becomes liquid it is poured from the crucible into the cast. The cooled-off cast is smashed and the finished castings carefully elaborated on.

Abstract: The fortune-teller presses by hand four rows of spots into the sand. The rows are measured and according to a straight or irregular number of spots being left over, the result is retained as a symbol. The procedure is repeated four times. From the resulting four figures, four further figures are won by the combination. These eight figures are gradually reduced to a final figure giving the answer to the oracle query.

Abstract: Im Tal Enneri Ogu fertigt der Schmied Ejima Makelemi ein Beil: Erhitzen von Eisen in der Esse, Schmieden des Mittelteils der Beilklinge, Abschroten überstehender Teile, Schmieden des Dorns und der Schneide, Schnitzen eines Schaftes, Einbrennen eines Loches für den Dorn und Einsetzen der Klinge.
Abstract: The smith's workshop is situated in the shade of a tree right next to the nomade camp of the Tubu. From his supply the smith chooses a suitable piece of iron, heats it in the stack and through lengthening, widening and compressing produces the middle part of the hatchet blade. The protruding parts are trimmed off. The spike and then the blade are wrought. From a nearby tree the smith hews off a branch and out of this carbes the shaft. The hole for the spike fitting is burnt into the blade. To conclude the smith sharpens and hardens the blade and fits it into the shaft-hole.

Abstract: Among the Kenga men and women who have magical power and who are able to see and to seize spirits are called kórdo. The kórdo have also knowledge of magical practices to extract the spirits of sickness from the body where they have penetrated. The film shows the kórdo Mandolo of the Barama tribe (Kenga) treating two patients. Mandolo is an old, almost blind woman. For payment the first patient, an old man, has brought a gourdful of millet. He has uncovered his renal region where he feels pain. With a bunch of leaves the kórdo makes some magical gestures, then she extracts, by means of the leaves, the sickness, respectively the matter of sickness, from the old man's body. She hands the leaves to one of the bystanders who takes out the matter of sickness in the form of little stones and pieces of charcoal. The kórdo now tears off some leaves, grinds them in her hand, spits on them, and then extracts the sickness from the old man's knee. In the same way she then treats the other knee and one of the toes of the man. In the next case the kórdo uses a different method of treatment. The female patient kneels down over a little hole, the kórdo takes two leaves of the calothropis-tree out of a gourd of water, spits on them, and then extracts by the leaves the sickness from the woman's body. At the same time the female assistant of the kórdo sprinkles water on the aching part of the body. Finally the leaves are buried in the hole.
