    Abstract: Straw-cald figure are still to be seen in the spring customs of Baden. In the film the straw-man is dressed up, his functions in the carnival parade are shown, finally he takes off his straw coat.

    Abstract: In seiner Holzwerkstatt in St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) stellt Konrad Geitel aus Zirbelholzdauben, die mit Eisenreifen zusammengehalten werden, ein Stoßbutterfaß mit Stempel, Deckel und Haltebrett her. Das Butterfaß wird in die kreisrunde Öffnung des Haltebretts gestellt und von Halteseilen mit Holzhaken festgehalten. Zum Abschluß werden das Butterfaß mit roter und die Eisenreifen mit grüner Ölfarbe bemalt.
    Abstract: In his small woodworking shop at St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) Konrad Gietel is making staves from pine wood for a churn. First he assembles the staves, then he applies cold glue, and finally he fits iron straps around the churn to keep the staves tightly together. After some time, while the glue has set, rough patches on the wood are removed with a plane, and the inside and outside surfaces are made smooth. A bottom piece is fitted. Gietel has cut a wooden die and fits a long handle. He makes the cover plug on a wood turning lathe, and then fits the churning board with the ropes. The churn (Schlacker) is finished by painting the staves red and the iron straps green.

    Abstract: Nach dem Erhitzen wird ein ca. 5 mm starkes Eisenblech im Winkel abgebogen; der eine Schenkel wird zweimal gefaltet. Der gefaltete Teil wird erhitzt und ein spitzes Eisen hindurchgeschlagen. Das Hackenblatt wird geschlichtet. Nach dem Abkühlen schärft der Schmied aus Tarim die Schneide mit einer Feile.

    Abstract: Ein Silberschmied aus Tarim schmilzt Silber und gießt es in kleine Barren, die er zu Draht zieht oder zu Blech hämmert. Einzelne Schmuckelemente verziert er durch Treib- oder Ziselierarbeit. Mit selbst hergestelltem Lötwerkstoff formt, lötet und verziert er Schmuckteile: Gürtelschnalle, Kugelornament, Gliederkette, Glöckchen und Steinfassung.
    Abstract: A silversmith smelts silver and casts it into small bars, which he draws into wire or hammers into sheets. He ornaments individual decorative pieces by turning or chasing. With welding material which he procedures himself, he moulds, solders and decorates jewellery; belt-buckle, spherical ornament, link-chain, small bell and stone-setting.

    Abstract: In St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) bereitet der Weißberg-Bauer seine oberschlächtige Wassermühle zum Mahlgang vor. Er reinigt und schärft die Mühlsteine, indem er die Mahlflächen des Laufers und Legers mit dem Flachspitzhammer und dem Flachriffelhammer bearbeitet. Nach dem Zusammensetzen der Mahlvorrichtung wird die Technik der Kraftübertragung vom Schaufelrad über den Mittelpam zum Langeisen, und damit zum Mahlstein, gezeigt. Im Anschluß daran erfolgt der erste Mahlgang.
    Abstract: The farmer "Weißbergbauer" is getting his private mill ready for operation. He cleans the millstones and sharpens them. He works the surface of the runner (upper millstone) and of the bottom millstone with a pointed flat hammer and a flat fluting hammer, respectively. After the grinding mechanism is assembled, the film shows the technique of transferring the power from the bucket wheel through the central shaft to the long iron and thus to the millstone. Then follows an initial milling operation.
