    Abstract: Terrorismus ist noch immer eines der bedrohlichsten Phänomene der heutigen Zeit. In diesem Buch werden mithilfe von Gerichtsakten vom Generalbundesanwalt beim Bundesgerichtshof in Karlsruhe die Radikalisierungsprozesse von 58 deutschen Jihadisten analysiert. Durch das umfassende Datenmaterial ist es möglich, die Wege dieser Personen von der Radikalisierung bis zum Anschluss an eine terroristische Organisation im Ausland (u.a. Islamischer Staat) sowie ausgeübte strafrechtlich relevante Handlungen zu rekonstruieren. Mithilfe einer Netzwerkanalyse wird das radikale Netzwerk untersucht, das aus Deutschland mit Jihadkämpfern im In- und Ausland verbunden gewesen ist. Dabei wird ein Augenmerk auf den Aufbau, die Funktionsweise und die Schlüsselpersonen des Netzwerks gelegt. Auch werden die unterschiedlichen Rollen und Unterstützungshandlungen der Netzwerkmitglieder in den Fokus genommen. Zusätzlich werden strafrechtlich relevante Radikalisierungs- und Mobilisierungsstrategien salafistisch-jihadistischer Prediger entschlüsselt, die weitaus tiefere Verbindungen zu terroristischen Organisationen im Ausland haben als bisher angenommen. Die Autorin Kristin Weber ist Kriminologin, Soziologin und wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Bereich der Radikalisierungs-, Terrorismus- und Extremismusforschung. An der Deutschen Hochschule der Polizei in Münster-Hiltrup hat sie ihre Dissertation im Rahmen des Projektes X-Sonar "Analyse extremistischer Bestrebungen in sozialen Netzwerken", welches vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung gefördert wurde, geschrieben.

    Abstract: Dieses Open-Access-Buch behandelt die Frage, wie und warum es dazu kommt, dass Menschen schwere islamistische Gewalttaten, etwa in Form terroristischer Anschläge oder gewaltsamer Hasskriminalität, in Westeuropa begehen wollen. Das im Rahmen des Buches entwickelte Erklärungsmodell nähert sich der Beantwortung dieser Frage in zwei Schritten: erstens wird erklärt, wie und warum Menschen überhaupt bereit werden, im Namen einer Ideologie zu töten. Die allermeisten Menschen, die sich hin zu einer solchen Gewaltbereitschaft radikalisieren, begehen allerdings keine Gewalttat. Daher wird zweitens dargelegt, unter welchen Bedingungen diese ideologiebasierte Gewaltbereitschaft in einer konkreten Gewalthandlung in Westeuropa gipfelt. Das entwickelte Erklärungsmodell wird im Anschluss empirisch überprüft. Der Fokus richtet sich dabei insbesondere auf die theoretisch formulierten Bedingungen der Tatbegehung. Diese Annahmen werden am Beispiel realisierter oder geplanter islamistischer Gewaltstraftaten in Westeuropa zwischen 2000-2013 getestet. Der Autor Marco-Thejesh Lohmann ist derzeit im Bereich der Islamismusprävention in Deutschland tätig. Er arbeitet in einem Präventionsprogramm, das darauf abzielt, der Radikalisierung junger Menschen möglichst frühzeitig entgegenzuwirken.

    Abstract: Immer wieder steht die Frage im Raum, ob Gewalt gegen Frauen zu milde sanktioniert werde. Die vorliegende Arbeit beantwortet diese Frage für Partnerinnentötungen, also die Tötung der Frau durch den (ehemaligen) Ehemann, Partner oder Freund. Nachdem eine mildere Sanktionierung von Partnerinnentötungen theoretisch begründet wird, wird der empirische Forschungsstand zu Partnerinnentötungen, zur Strafzumessungsforschung und Sanktionierungspraxis dargelegt. Anhand von 472 wegen Mordes oder Totschlags verurteilten Tätern werden Partnerinnentötungen in vergleichender Perspektive zu anderen Tötungsdelikten ausgewertet. Neben der Beschreibung von Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden hinsichtlich Täter, Opfer und Tat steht die Sanktionierung der Täter im Fokus der Auswertung. Es werden dabei die Fragen beantwortet, inwiefern Täter eine Partnerinnentötung wegen Mordes oder Totschlags verurteilt werden, wie ihre Schuldfähigkeit bewertet wird, welche Strafzumessungsfaktoren herangezogen werden und welche Straflängen ergehen. Zudem werden in einer qualitativen Betrachtungsweise Argumentationsstrukturen der Richter*innen wiedergegeben. Die Arbeit zeigt abschließend auf, wie eine Verbesserung der Rechtsprechungspraxis ausgestaltet sein könnte. Die Autorin Julia Habermann ist Sozialwissenschaftlerin und forscht seit mehreren Jahren zum Thema Gewalt gegen Frauen. Während ihrer Promotionszeit arbeitete sie am Lehrstuhl für Kriminologie der Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

    Abstract: Einleitung und Überblick -- Die Delinquenz von Jugendlichen im Kontext der Peergroup -- Sozialwissenschaftliche Netzwerkanalyse und die Erhebung von Freundesnetzwerken in Schulklassen -- Abweichendes Verhalten und Popularität im Schulkontext -- Delinquente Überzeugungen – Ähnlichkeit innerhalb von Freundschaften im Klassennetzwerk -- Delinquenz und delinquente Peers im situativen Kontext -- Zusammenfassung, Schlussfolgerungen und Ausblick -- Literature.
    Abstract: Dominik Gerstner beschäftigt sich mit der Bedeutung von Gleichaltrigen bzw. Peer-Beziehungen für die Entstehung und Bewertung von abweichendem Verhalten im Jugendalter und damit mit einem klassischen Thema der Kriminalsoziologie. Durch die Anwendung innovativer Theorien – wie z.B. der Situational Action Theory – und dem methodischen Ansatz der Netzwerkanalyse werden dieser Thematik neue Impulse gegeben. Im Zentrum der vorliegenden Arbeit stehen Analysen quantitativer Daten, in denen Einflüsse der Freunde in der Schulklasse auf das delinquente Verhalten von Jugendlichen sowie die Bedeutung dieses Verhaltens für die Popularität in Schulklassen untersucht wird. Die empirischen Auswertungen basieren auf den Daten der MPI-Schulbefragung 2011, die in zwei deutschen Großstädten durchgeführt wurde. Der Autor Dominik Gerstner ist Soziologe und Postdoc in der Abteilung Kriminologie am Max-Planck-Institut zur Erforschung von Kriminalität, Sicherheit und Recht in Freiburg i. Br.

    Abstract: In the past twenty years, international criminal law has become one of the main areas of international legal scholarship and practice.     Abstract: Centering Pakistan in a story of transnational Islam stretching from South Asia to the Middle East, Simon Wolfgang Fuchs offers the first in-depth ethnographic history of the intellectual production of Shi'is and their religious competitors in this 'Land of the Pure.' The notion of Pakistan as the pinnacle of modern global Muslim aspiration forms a crucial component of this story. It has empowered Shi'is, who form about twenty percent of the country's population, to advance alternative conceptions of their religious hierarchy while claiming the support of towering grand ayatollahs in Iran and Iraq. Fuchs shows how popular Pakistani preachers and scholars have boldly tapped into the esoteric potential of Shi'ism, occupying a creative and at times disruptive role as brokers, translators, and self-confident pioneers of contemporary Islamic thought.

    Abstract: This title examines the concept of intersectional discrimination and why it has been difficult for jurisdictions around the world to redress it in discrimination law.     Abstract: Nadine Ochmann untersucht das Gesundheitsverständnis und -verhalten inhaftierter Frauen sowie die gesundheitsförderlichen Bedingungen in Gefängnissen. Dazu wurden Insassinnen sowohl nach ihren subjektiven Einstellungen und individuellen Bedürfnissen befragt als auch nach ihren Erfahrungen mit der gesundheitlichen Versorgung. Dabei zeigen inhaftierte Frauen einerseits ein großes Interesse an ihrer eigenen Gesundheit und ihr Gesundheitsverhalten verbessert sich in der Haft. Andererseits verschlechtert sich jedoch ihr Gesundheitszustand, insbesondere das psychosoziale Wohlbefinden. Die Autorin zeigt, dass intramurale Gesundheitsförderung möglich und in mehreren Bereichen bereits vorhanden ist. Großes Verbesserungspotenzial besteht insbesondere im Hinblick auf die (gesundheitlichen) Bedürfnisse der Selbstbestimmung und der Partizipation.     Abstract: 'Beyond the People' develops a provocative, interdisciplinary, and meta-theoretical critique of the idea of popular sovereignty. It asks simple but far-reaching questions: Can 'imagined' communities, or 'invented' peoples, ever be theorized without, at the same time, being re-imagined and re-invented anew? Can polemical concepts, such as popular sovereignty or constituent power, be theorized objectively? If, as this book argues, the answer to these questions is no, theorists who approach the figure of a sovereign people must acknowledge that their activity is inseparable from the practice of constituent imagination. Though widely accepted as important, even vital, for the development of political concepts, the social practice of imagination is almost always presumed to operate either historically or impersonally, but seldom individually.

    Abstract: Die Lebensphase „Jugend“ wird häufig mit Defiziten, Störungen und riskanten Verhaltensweisen assoziiert. Besondere mediale und politische Aufmerksamkeit erhalten Jugendliche dann, wenn sie mit strafrechtsrelevantem Verhalten in Erscheinung treten. In diesen publizistisch-politischen Kontexten stoßen kriminologische und sozialpädagogische Befunde und Erkenntnisse häufig auf wenig Interesse. Vor diesem Hintergrund thematisiert das Handbuch zentrale Felder der aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit jugendlicher Kriminalität. Die aktuelle Auflage wurde hierzu grundlegend neu bearbeitet und umfasst auch jüngere rechtliche Reformen u.a. zum Jugendarrest.     Abstract: Korruption wird meist mit undemokratischen Staaten in Verbindung gebracht.     Abstract: Christiane Carris zentrales Anliegen ist es, die Verschränkungen von Sexualität und Geschlecht in ihrer juristisch-medizinischen Machtdimension zu Beginn des 20.     Abstract: Given the vast inventory of verbal and visual images of nonhuman animals disseminated for millennia to debase and bestialize Jews (the Bestiarium Judaicum), this work asks: What is at play when Jewish-identified writers employ such figures in their narratives and poems? Bringing together Jewish cultural studies, examining how Jews have negotiated Jew-Gentile difference, and critical animal studies, analyzing the functions served by asserting human-animal difference, this monograph focuses on the writings of primarily Germanophone authors, including Sigmund Freud, Heinrich Heine, Franz Kafka, Gertrud Kolmar, H. Leivick, Felix Salten, and Curt Siodmak. It ferrets out of their nonhuman-animal constructions their responses to the bestial answers upon which the Jewish and animal questions converged and by which varieties of the species 'Jew' were depicted.

    Abstract: This book explores the historical commitment to the idea of constitutionalism and how the framers understood India's constitutional project. It begins with an overview of the concept of 'constitutional morality' as it relates to the Indian Constitution, along with the cosmopolitan character of Indian constitutionalism. It then considers some of the tensions that have characterised constitutional law in India, with particular emphasis on some of the sources of these tensions, for instance the debate between centralisation and decentralisation. It also discusses the major axes around which the normative and institutional imagination of the Indian Constitution is articulated and concludes by analysing the character of constitutional development in India and paying attention to the forces that have shaped its evolution.

    Abstract: A collection of Pollmann's previously-published essays on early Christian poetry, most newly-translated from German and all updated and corrected. It is a genre that has tended to be overlooked by both Classicists and Patristics scholars and this collection will rectify that. With the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire, increasing numbers of educated people converted to this new belief. As Christianity did not have its own educational institutions, the issue of how to harmonize pagan education and Christian convictions became increasingly pressing. Especially classical poetry, the staple diet of pagan education, was considered morally corrupting (because of its deceitful mythological content) and damaging for the salvation of the soul (because of the false gods it advocated). But Christianity recoiled from an unqualified anti-intellectual attitude, while at the same time the experiment of creating an idiosyncratic form of genuinely Christian poetry failed (the sole exception being the poet Commodianus). This book argues that, instead, Christian poets made creative use of the classical literary tradition, and—in addition to blending it with Judaeo-Christian biblical exegesis—exploited poetry’s special ability of enhancing the effectiveness of communication through aesthetic means. It seeks to explore these strategies through a close analysis of a wide range of Christian, and for comparison partly also pagan, writers mainly from the fourth to sixth centuries. The book reveals that early Christianity was not a hermetically sealed uniform body, but displays a rich spectrum of possibilities in dealing with the past and a willingness to engage with and adapt the surrounding culture(s), thereby developing diverse and changing responses to historical challenges. By demonstrating throughout that authority is a key in understanding the long denigrated and misunderstood early Christian poets, this book reaches the ground-breaking conclusion that early Christian poetry is an art form that gains its justification by adding cultural authority to Christianity. Thus, in a wider sense this book engages with the recently emerged scholarly interest in aspects of religion as cultural phenomena.
