After a car accident he had to hand over business to his sons. They talk about the economic and family problems, many of them resulting from the changes from traditional to modern values in contemporary Iranian society.

Die Padu-Zerermonie dient der Vertreibung dieser Übel, beschwört das lebensspendende Wasser und erneuert die sozialen Beziehungen. Gleichzeitig dient sie der Vorbereitung von Nyale, der Regenzeremonie im Februar, dem Beginn der Reispflanzung.     Abstract: Laboya is situated on the southern coast of West Sumba (Eastern Indonesia), an island never introduced to Hindu culture. Not until the beginning of the 20th century did Christianity and then Islam reach the Sumbanese. Even nowadays most people say they believe in Marapu, a term referring to their ancestors. It is the task of the living to nourish and pray to ancestral spirits in order to receive their blessings. Padu and Nyale are the two ceremonies marking the annual agricultural cycle (rice, maize and cassava). Padu means bitterness. October is a month of 'bitterness' and 'heat' (hala) causing people to fall ill, and preventing animals and plants from thriving. The Padu ceremony is to get rid of these ills, to let the life-giving water flow again and to renew social bonds. The Padu ritual also serves to prepare the rain rituals of Nyale which take place in February, when the rice planting season is re-opened. During the Nyale rituals the arrival of Nyale seaworms (announcing heavy rainfall) means the ancestral blessing has been given.     Abstract: Laboya is situated on the southern coast of West Sumba (Eastern Indonesia), an island never introduced to Hindu culture. Not until the beginning of the 20th century did Christianity and then Islam reach the Sumbanese. Even nowadays most people say they believe in Marapu, a term referring to their ancestors. It is the task of the living to nourish and pray to ancestral spirits in order to receive their blessings. Padu and Nyale are the two ceremonies marking the annual agricultural cycle (rice, maize and cassava). Padu means bitterness. October is a month of 'bitterness' and 'heat' (hala) causing people to fall ill, and preventing animals and plants from thriving. The Padu ceremony is to get rid of these ills, to let the life-giving water flow again and to renew social bonds. The Padu ritual also serves to prepare the rain rituals of Nyale which take place in February, when the rice planting season is re-opened. During the Nyale rituals the arrival of Nyale seaworms (announcing heavy rainfall) means the ancestral blessing has been given. (Research footage of low technical quality).     Abstract: Der Kawah Ijen (Grüner Krater) ist ein aktiver Vulkan auf der Ostseite der Insel Java. Dort liegt auch der größte schwefel- und salzsäurehaltige See der Welt. Seit 1968 arbeiten Bergmänner Tag und Nacht und unter unhaltbaren Bedingungen in dem gefährlichen und giftigen Krater. Die Arbeiter verdienen zwar überdurchschnittlich, zahlen dafür aber den Preis einer durch Giftgase und Knochenarbeit verkürzten Lebenserwartung.
    Abstract: The Kawah Ijen (green crater) is an active volcano situated on the extreme east side of the island of Java, where the biggest hydrochloric and sulfuric acid lake in the world is located. Since 1968 forced sulfur miners work by day and night, in untenable conditions in a hostile, toxic and harmful crater. Gathering the "yellow gold" these subhumans are paid more than the national average at the price of a life span reduced by the gases they breathe and the weight they carry.

    Abstract: Bei den Wana, die als Halbnomaden im indonesischen Regenwald leben, ist Indo Pino eine allseits anerkannte Schamanin. Ihr Neffe konvertierte vor einigen Monaten zum Christentum und predigt nun apokalyptische Visionen. Für ihn steht fest: wenn diese Visionen von Gott stammen, müssen die Visionen der Schamanen von Satan kommen. Ausgehend von der christlichen Idee der Erbsünde, werden die Begriffe "gut" und "böse" überdacht und die traditionellen Heilmethoden der Schamanen stark angegriffen. Vor unseren Augen findet ein Kampf zweier Glaubenswelten statt. (vgl. Film C 12437 "Indo Pino")
    Abstract: Among the Wana people, semi-nomads from the Indonesian forest, Indo Pino is a shaman recognized by everybody. Her nephew, who is also a shaman's son, converted to Christianity some months ago and is now preaching apocalyptic visions. And for him, if these visions come from God, the visions of the shamans inevitably must come from Satan. Through the Christian concepts of sin and original fault, good and evil notions are revised. The traditional healing practices of the shamans are heavily under attack. Under our eyes a fight between two worlds of religious belief is taking place. (see also film C 12437 "Indo Pino")

Der Film portraitiert zwei dieser Familien, die sich dem Wandel stellen müssen und versuchen, im Kampf einen Sinn zu finden in einer Welt, die sie laufend an den Rand der Existenz drängt.
    Abstract: Sunder Nagri (Beautiful City) is a small working class colony on the margins of India's capital city, Delhi. Most families residing here come from a community of weavers. The last ten years have seen a gradual disintegration of the handloom tradition of this community under the globalisation regime. The families have to cope with change as well as reinvent themselves to eke out a living.The City Beautiful is the story of two families struggling to make sense of a world, which keeps pushing them to the margins.     Abstract: This is a film about performance, and the fear of not being able to perform successfully. In Meena Bazar in old Delhi, the tenuous aspirations of men and boys are reflected in their faces as they cluster around Aslam's street stall to listen to his spiel about how to enhance male sexual performance. Near Aslam’s stalls is a school for wrestlers (akhara), where discipline and abstinence from impure sex are encouraged by the guru. In an adjacent tea shop, men appreciate storytelling that invokes the humorous and the fantastic, offering an escape from the dreariness of their daily lives. All of these men have, in their different ways, found a way to perform life's tasks in an insecure world.

Entlang einem Weg bauen sie einen Zaun: Sie werfen mit Gabeln und Zugspaten einen Graben aus, stellen die Dornhecken hinein und befestigen sie.

    Abstract: On a vertical loom the threads of yak hair are stretched in a double-rowed warp, the dividing staffs are inserted, the heddle staff is twisted in and fixed. By an alternating use of various self-coloured weft threads a triped pattern is woven. Later the warp shiner is inserted, the warp is pulled and stretched again. When the weaving is finished, the loops of the warp are untied from the frame. The textile is cut up in the middle, resulting in two rugs.

    Abstract: Setting up a horizontal llom with two heddles. Stretching a double warp by winding figures of eight. Attaching the warp threads to the heddles and fixing the heddles by means of drawcords to both arms of a lever-like longitudinal rod. By alternate raising and lowering the shed is formed. Light-coloured, red and black woollen threads are inserted. The result is a weft-faced rib weave with horizontal stripes. The finished carpet is cut from the loom and the loom is removed.

Es folgen das Worfeln und das Sieben, das Reinigen, das Wegbringen des Strohs, das Abfüllen des Weizens in Säcke unter Einhaltung gewisser Riten und Bräuche und der Abtransport.
    Abstract: This film shows how in Baharak (Province of Badaxsan, North-East Afghanistan), 3 to 4 weeks after the wheat harvest when reaping is almost finished in all the fields, a threshing place is prepared, the wheatsheaves are brought and threshed with a threshing sledge. Then follow winnowing and sifting, the timeconsuming, complicated cleaning process, removal of the straw, the filling of the wheat into sacks (which follows a pattern of rites and customs), and transport.

    Abstract: A Tibetan refugee rug-weaver stretches the cotton warp on a vertical heddle loom, placed horizontally on the floor, and fixes the heddle rod. On the erected loom he and a girl insert the coloured threads in rows upon a stick. They fasten each row of knots by weft-threads and then cut the loops of the rows. The woven flower pattern cannot fully be realized until the finished rug has been sheared.

Die Konstruktionsteile beider Uferseiten werden durch vier Balken miteinander verbunden und mit Bohlen abgedeckt.
    Abstract: The flood threatened bridge is partly torn down and built up again by mutual assistance of the men of the village. On one of the river banks the pole has to be newly assembled. Beams are used to build up the scaffolding. Stones and twigs are used to fill the frame-work. Owing to this the beams, overlapping each other with the tips, are able to over-bridge the river. The construction can then be connected by four beams to the corresponding ones on the other bank. After the beams have been secured by planks the bridge is ready for use.

    Abstract: The film shows parts of a performance of Tscham dances in the monastery at Gangtok. First of all the temple guards march from the temple to restrain the audience witnessing the performance; thereafter the lamaist temple orchestra appears. One after another appear skeleton dancers, who are Lamas and are considered to be envoys of the underworld, then the sword and shield carrying warriors who are members of the Tibetan nobility, afterwards the so-called blackhat magicians and finally the most important Gods protecting Tibet portrayed by dancers in animal masks.

Ein Mann mit einer Maske, begleitet vom Gesang einer Frau, führt einen Tanz auf. Anschließend singt die Frau mit Trommelbegleitung des Mannes. 2. Auf einem Dorfplatz führen fünf Pilger Tänze auf, die von Musik und religiösen Liedern begleitet werden.
    Abstract: Two pilgrim, a man and woman, in a pilgrimage to a lamaist monastery earn food for their journey by chanting and dancing. The man is wearing a mask of textile material and yak hair. He accompanies his wife's singing with drum rhythms. In a later phase the woman reads chanting texts; the husband accompanies her on the big drum. In the second part of the film a group of five pilgrims perform a dance.

    Abstract: Während des Ratha-Jatra-Festes wird das Abbild des Gottes Jaganath aus seinem Tempel in Puri in einem großen, mit Blumen, Tüchern und Bildwerken geschmückten Tempelwagen von gläubigen Hindus um den Tempelbezirk gezogen. Ausschnitte vom Verladen des Götterbildes in den Tempelwagen und von seinem feierlichen Umzug.
    Abstract: During the Ratha Jatra festival the god Jaganath leaves his temple at Puri, to be pulled by devout Hindus round the temple confines in a great temple-car, which is decorated with flowers, drapes and sculptures. The film shows extracts of the image of the god loaded onto the temple-car and of the solemn procession.
