Abstract:
Abstract:
Gives a complete overview of the 19 working days needed to build a sleeping house on Niutao. The work is initiated by the master house builder who supervises the construction. The structure is a four-post house of rectangular design which has a large gabled roof and a straight ridge. Timber is cut from the surrounding bush; individual pieces are tied together with coconut-fiber cord. The roof is made up of treated pandanus leaves.
