Abstract:
1957 im Rahmen der Interbau errichtet, galt das Hansaviertel in Berlin als Modell einer modernen Stadt: grün, nachbarschaftlich und funktional. Eine Riege namhafter Architekten (Alvar Aalto, Egon Eiermann, Walter Gropius, Arne Jacobsen, Oscar Niemeyer und Max Taut) sicherte der Wohnsiedlung einen Platz in der Architekturgeschichte. Aber die Bedeutung des Hansaviertels reicht weit über modernistische Stilfragen hinaus: Denn als eines der größten Ausstellungsereignisse der 1950er Jahre unternahm die Interbau 57 nichts weniger als eine ästhetische Rückerziehung. Das Buch bietet in wissenschaftlichen und künstlerischen Beiträgen eine kleine Archäologie des Hansaviertels.
