Abstract: Introduction -- The message: do no harm -- The receiver: resisting the message -- The sender: using narrative persuasion -- The channel: disseminating narratives on social media platforms -- Case design and case selection -- Methodology -- Results and discussion -- Key findings and Summary.
Abstract: This book proposes a novel approach to human rights work, advocating the use of narrative persuasion on social media to realign individual moral judgments with fundamental human rights. It challenges the traditional view that human rights are primarily political/legal rights, proposing instead that they should be understood as moral rights, identifying the right not to be harmed as universal, fundamental moral right. By integrating insights from philosophy, social psychology, neuroscience, and communication studies, Linda Walter explores how human rights work can be more effectively carried out on social media. The author uses a case study of the social media campaign "Jamal al-Khatib" to examine the impact of narrative persuasion on changing harmful attitudes. Through qualitative content analysis, she assesses how resistance strategies manifest in the audience's comments and explores the effectiveness of narrative persuasion in overcoming these barriers. The findings reveal the complexities of altering deeply held beliefs but also highlight the potential of narrative persuasion to engage and shift individual attitudes toward human rights. About the author Linda Walter holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences at the European University Viadrina. She is the managing director and co-founder of Future Challenges e.V. and an independent consultant. Her research focuses on human rights, social media and narrative persuasion.

Abstract: Introduction -- The Basic Assumptions of Traditional Economics -- An Initial Interim Conclusion -- A Discourse Analytical Examination of Some Fundamental Assumptions and Concepts in Economics -- A Second Interim Conclusion -- Summary and Outlook -- Conclusion and Outlook.
Abstract: Economics still adheres entirely unreflectively to a mechanistic worldview and machine thinking. Epistemologically, it thus remains in the 19th century, and its assumptions and theories, methods, and models therefore stand in stark contradiction to the findings of all other social and natural sciences as well as a multitude of empirical facts. Through a discourse-analytical examination of sixteen basic concepts in economics, based on twelve standard economics textbooks, their ideahistorical origin and use are worked out and compared and related to the current state of knowledge of other disciplines. This reveals the structural, methodological, and content errors of economics in a clear manner. Especially for critical students, who have long been demanding an economics that is in line with the current state of research and faces the challenges of the 21st century, this opens up the possibility of a new approach to economics. The Content Discourse-analytical examination of fundamental assumptions and concepts of economics from "labor" to "wealth" Structural, methodological, and content critique of economic thinking from an epistemological perspective Critical examination of the use of empirical and statistical data, the method of gaining knowledge, and the model thinking in economics The Author Daniel Weißbrodt is a project assistant at the Association of Saxon Roma and Sinti. Abstract: Television series enjoy an unbroken – popular as well as scholarly – attention. It is surprising, however, that in works on seriality in media and cultural studies, approaches to television studies and television history still play a rather minor role. Yet seriality must always be thought of in terms of television, since the two have always been indissolubly interwoven – economically, technically, and aesthetically. But what else constitutes the serial in television and how does it change its face in times of digitalization, streaming and interactivity? Is it possible to think of a genuine serial theory of the televisual – and what, in turn, can be learned from this for seriality beyond television? The essays in this volume shed new light on the serial as a core principle of television, thus providing new impulses for a television theory of the serial on the basis of examples from the current range of television series. Abstract: Digital platforms hold significant economic value, enriching various industry sectors. While they are pivotal in driving value creation and capture, it is not solely their technological prowess that underpins their economic significance. Rather, their effectiveness lies in their integration within business ecosystems. In this study, Tobias Wulfert examines digital platforms in the context of e-commerce through five lenses: · Enterprise architecture · Boundary resources · Application lifecycle · Dynamic capabilities · Value creation This analysis focuses on different e-commerce platform types, developing an architectural framework and a taxonomy for classification. The author also delineates e-commerce ecosystem architectures, emphasizing the role of platforms as central components and the involvement of peripheral ecosystem participants. He explores boundary resources as crucial interfaces between platforms and ecosystem participants. He further suggests a reference procedure model for the management of these boundary resources. Furthermore, he delves into the dynamic capabilities necessary for effective ecosystem orchestration, identifying configurations of dynamic capabilities that can confer sustainable competitive advantages. About the author Tobias Wulfert is a research associate at the Chair of Business Informatics and Integrated Information Systems at the University of Duisburg-Essen. His research projects are concerned with digital platforms in digital transformation and electronic commerce.

Abstract: The contributions to this volume represent a range of case studies that provide perspectives on the question of how deeply Hellenic influence penetrated into the lives of the subjects of the Hellenistic monarchies. Greek became the language of international discourse of the ruling elites in the kingdoms formed after the conquests of Alexander. But to what extent were the institutions and practices of these monarchies shaped by ideologies brought by Greek-speaking rulers? To what extent did the customs of the complex cultures they ruled over shape the practices of the ruling elites, conserving ancient institutions in traditional ways? About the Editor Mark Munn is Professor of Ancient Greek History and Archaeology at the Pennsylvania State University. Abstract: Introduction -- Gender inequality in the workplace: Concepts and perspectives -- Theoretical framework, a multi-level approach -- Setting the Moroccan context -- Research design -- Empirical results -- Discussions and conclusion.
Abstract: Existing literature on women career development focuses on western industrialized countries and gives little attention to regions where patriarchy is prevailing like in North African countries. The limited available research in the region takes a business-oriented perspective to investigate the topic and focuses on business process optimization for an increased profitability. In an attempt to close this gap, the present book takes a sociological lens to investigate meanings and interpretations that skilled women in Moroccan organizations give to their experiences. This project sought to understand how Moroccan professional women take decisions about their career path while taking a multi-level approach to examine contextual factors. In this book, Bourdieu’s theory of practice was used as a theoretical framework to examine the interplay of the different factors impacting the development of women career paths. Using a qualitative research approach under the interpretivist paradigm, and drawing on in-depth interviews with 10 participants, this research investigated female and male conceptualization of career and work objectives. About the author Mouna Izelmaden has accumulated several years of experience in marketing, sales and customer service positions in Morocco and Germany with a business administration educational background. Her research interest is to investigate the interplay between social structures and organizational practice with a focus on the topics of gender equality and inclusion.

Abstract: In the pandemic, the state in Germany reacts in lockdown with restrictions within the private sphere of a shutdown of the leisure and cultural sphere, while the work contexts are only peripherally affected. Out of this crisis, new techniques of leadership are intensifying. Discipline and norms are no longer suitable enough to ensure productivity in today's world, which is why there is a shift towards self-directed processes and mechanisms such as flexibility, motivation and goal setting. The actors are therefore no longer assigned a fixed place in the sense of discipline, but are encouraged to surrender to the new control mechanisms and to adapt themselves again and again with a high degree of self-control. The realistic fear of contagion reinforces the actors' willingness to submit to these forms of mobilization. The Editor PD Dr. Rolf Hepp teaches at the Institute for Sociology at the FU Berlin and coordinates the SUPI-Network.

Abstract: Kubernetes jest platformą do orkiestracji kontenerów.

Abstract: Przedsiębiorstwa z branży technologicznej ciągle mierzą się z silną konkurencją.

Abstract: Frameworki bardzo ułatwiają życie programistom. Framework napisany w Pythonie Flask, w odróżnieniu od typowych frameworków, umożliwia swobodne dobieranie technologii i komponentów aplikacji, a nawet tworzenie własnych rozwiązań. Oznacza to, że Flask pozwoli Ci zachować pełną kontrolę nad budowanym oprogramowaniem!

Abstract: This book explores the separation of economics from the social sciences. Raimund Dietz attributes this development to the adoption of a too narrow, instrumentalist perspective and demonstrates how close the mainstream is to the idea of a socialist planned economy, despite all its liberal phraseology. The book attempts to comprehensively reconstruct economics as catallactics, explicitly including and assigning a central role to liberal forms of socialization, such as exchange and money – an approach that, it argues, is the only way to overcome the methodological deficits of the mainstream. It allows monetary theory to be integrated into economic theory. Further, the book shows that modern societies have no choice but to organize themselves as capitalist market economies. For good economic reasons, money has lost its physical value over the course of time and is now merely symbolic. As a result, the importance of the state has also grown. The author proposes that the power to create money should be consistently placed in the hands of the central bank. The book offers a transformative perspective that addresses the urgent need for sustainable resource management worldwide. It invites social scientists, policymakers, and especially economists to rethink economics and pursue a holistic approach to a more sustainable future. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.

Abstract: Introduction -- Police Reform and Counter-Reform under Regime Transformation Dynamics -- Venezuela -- Bosnia and Herzegovina -- Ukraine -- Assessment of the Case Studies and Main Findings -- Outlook and Conclusions.
Abstract: This book offers a comprehensive study on the dynamics of policing under contexts of political regime transformation in the interplay between democratization and de-democratization through a cross-case comparative analysis among Venezuela, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine. The central concern lies in working out the intertwining between politics and policing by examining the development trajectories of democratic police reforms under scenarios of democratic stagnation, backsliding and autocratic consolidation. In particular, this book analyzes those changes experienced by the police as an institution, their powers and the practices for policing society in the framework of the endeavors for politicization, militarization and informalization of policing. This analysis is addressed from a macro-level actor-based approach, which accounts for the decisive role of ruling political actors and senior police managers as critical players who influence the decisions and patterns of political regime transformation and policing. Therefore, this book offers a groundbreaking study of the interrelationship among contemporary processes of de-democratization and police counter-reform from an actor-based perspective. About the author Stiven Tremaria holds a PhD from the University of Osnabrück and is currently a research associate at the German Police University.

Abstract: Considering decreasing birth rates and increasing rates of life expectancy, the workforce is rapidly aging – resulting in a more age-diverse labor market. So far, research in IWO-psychology has not fully addressed age-related constructs and issues of new work with longitudinal methods representing changes over time more adequately. To enhance predictions for a rapidly aging workforce, this research focuses on the influence of the potentials of actively aging individuals on frequently cited attitudes and behaviors over the working life span. The results suggest that a more differentiated view of age is partially effective in reducing the probability of turnover intention among IT-employees over time, the age-entrepreneurship relation can be clarified by focusing on the inconsistencies of age and the dimensions of human capital partly contribute to engaging in postretirement work. The outcomes have implications regarding the temporality of aging, entrepreneurial generational identity, calling to work and residuals about postretirement work. Qualitative follow-up research addressing the reasons for turnover intention and work activities retirees experienced as calling seems promising. About the author Sabine Richter-Trummer was awarded her PhD at the Chair of Work and Organizational Psychology at the Bundeswehr University Munich. Together with Prof. Sonja Sackmann, she investigated the influence of aging on employee retention using longitudinal studies.

Abstract: The public sector urgently needs more personnel and must actively engage with the labor market to distinguish itself from the private sector. Scholars recommend developing a strong “public service brand” and using sector-specific motives to attract individuals who prefer public sector employment. However, public-specific signaling often fails to attract a diverse range of applicants. This book examines the signaling strategies in public and private job advertisements and explores how the public sector can emulate private sector appeal while balancing personnel policy trade-offs involved with this manipulation. A linguistic analysis of 5,000 public and private job advertisements was performed to reveal significant sectoral differences in word choice and content emphasis. Further, a preregistered online survey experiment measured the intention to apply to job advertisements with varying signaling intensities. Therefore, this book enhances the understanding of recruitment messaging and strategies to bridge public-private sector differences. About the author Nico Gießmann studied Public Administration Informatics (B.Sc.) at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau and Business Informatics and Digital Transformation (M.Sc.) at the University of Potsdam.

Abstract: The importance of health in the work world 4.0 -- The interplay of health, (financial) success and corporate health promotion -- Nudging for more health -- Recommendations for action -- Conclusion.
Abstract: The modern working world, characterized by a VUCA-world, digitalization, and demographic change, is transforming the way of working, offering benefits like increased flexibility but also bringing uncertainty, constant change, and new tasks. These developments pose new challenges to leaders and employees, reflected in rising sick days in Germany. Given the financial damage of presenteeism and absenteeism for individual companies and the German economy, organizations must find ways to maintain their employees’ mental and physical health. Despite the growing importance of health in the corporate context, in Germany the potential of workplace health promotion is not yet fully exploited. This book highlights how modern behavioral economic incentive systems, using psychological insights on people’s real decision-making behavior, can enhance corporate health promotion. Jennifer Potthoff designed the MIND-THE-GAP-toolbox for organizations to motivate their employees to eat healthier, improve physical activity, and reduce stress at work. Additionally, the book discusses how leaders can support employee health through a health-oriented leadership style characterized by self-care, mindfulness, staff-care, appreciation, empathy, trust, communication, fairness, and a balance between scope for action and task orientation. About the author Jennifer Potthoff currently works as a research consultant at the German Economic Institute, with a research focus on behavioral economics and business ethics.

Abstract: The standard economic theory, despite its many advantages, has a significant weakness: it is only of limited applicability to the economic reality of practice. Therefore, the book presents a new economic theory that is completely oriented towards the reality of economic practice. In this new theory, human beings are not just actors but constitute the central element from which the theory and everything else derive: work, production, consumption, demand, supply, exchange, trade, markets, stock exchanges, money, state economics, and global economics with all their complexities. Unlike the standard model, the new theory employs a holistic approach in its methodology. With this new and differentiated economic perspective and mindset, the new theory is capable of initiating a paradigm shift in the discipline of economics. Abstract: The long-lasting political instability in Afghanistan since the Soviet Union invasion in 1979 has displaced millions of Afghans, both internally and internationally. Despite their growing numbers, the challenges that Afghan refugees encounter in public institutions and everyday interaction with members of their host countries have remained largely uninvestigated. This research thus explores perceived institutional violence against Afghan refugees in Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The semi-structured interviews provide evidence on the occurrence of perceived verbal violence, and differential and poor treatment in institutions. The quantitative analysis lends empirical evidence to the extent, factors, grounds, and consequences of institutional verbal violence, institutional failure, everyday discrimination, and sense of belonging. Permanent residence, school education, age, having children, country of residence, citizenship, and employment were identified as factors significantly affecting the experiences and perceptions of respondents. Respondents reported negative experiences mostly in institutions that often deal with migration and asylum matters. Legal status, ethnic origin, religion, unemployment, appearance, and lower language proficiency seem to be the main grounds for institutional violence. Der Autor Mojib Rahman Atal currently works for GOPA Consulting Group and teaches migration politics at the Technical University of Nuremberg-Georg Simon Ohm. He has worked previously for the German Institute for Development Evaluation and the Central Institute for Area Studies at the University of Friedrich-Alexander-Erlangen-Nürnberg. .

Abstract: The book explains why innovation and new digital technologies in the construction industry and beyond are largely dependent on a new culture of thinking. Personal experience reports from user practice and insights into research show the many human and technical potentials that have so far been insufficiently utilised. The book provides examples of how digital change can be shaped in a meaningful and constructive way. It looks back at the historical development of diversity in construction and highlights entrepreneurial paths towards a more diverse working culture, but also identifies the problem areas that hinder the innovation process. A variety of calls for action are derived from the inventory ‘Where do we stand?’ and the question ‘Where do we want (need) to go?’. Diversity is the key to success. This realisation is important in order to set the course for an innovative, sustainable construction industry now. The book identifies the key factors and core competences at all levels that are decisive for promoting diversity and innovation. If it utilises these consistently, the construction industry can take on a pioneering role at home and abroad. Content The book shows ways to achieve more diversity in construction It creates an understanding of the human transformation in construction Women impressively describe their career paths in the construction industry Target Group Contributors to the construction industry.

Abstract: Introduction -- Understanding Aspirational Talk -- Business Ethics Perspective on Responsibility -- Synthesis: Applying Business Ethics to Aspirational Talk -- Conclusion.
Abstract: Aspirational talk has gained increasing research attention as a compelling concept theoretically explaining the potential of talk-action discrepancies in corporate responsibility communication to instigate organizational change. Under certain conditions, aspirational talk can facilitate discourse, agreement, reframing, and corporate reflexivity. However, perceived talk-action discrepancies can negatively affect organizational members, leading to disengagement, and demotivation, causing emotional exhaustion, exposing employees to vulnerabilities, and even catalyzing unethical or illicit behaviors. Thus, this book focuses on how aspirational talk becomes irresponsible in an organizational context, and how it can be avoided. The author proposes that aspirational talk becomes irresponsible if it creates expectations that lead to illegitimate harm to employees or involved stakeholders. A framework is derived, constituting the finding that it takes two types of investments into performativity and responsibility conditions, to avoid the irresponsible use of aspirational talk – and thus, to inspire responsibly. About the author Marie Schwimmer completed her doctoral study under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Andreas Suchanek at the Dr. Werner Jackstädt Chair of Economic and Business Ethics at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management and the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics. Her primary research and practice focus is on corporate responsibility, sustainability communication, and business ethics as well as particularly aspirational talk in organizations.

Abstract: This book explores the fragile process of city brand development thoughtfully. Backgrounds are explained, experiences recounted, and city branding inspired. The dream of every brand maker: develop a city into a strong brand – perhaps even a myth. Yet, myths' creation is a curiosity. When purposeful, are there specific success recipes, and can those responsible be identified? Can the process be replicated? How do brand makers navigate city and brand complexity practically? How do they offer success prospects to the arduous process of creating a city brand? How do they handle external criticism and self-doubts? City images emerge from complex and random processes. In global urban competition, this process is enriched with brand making achievements. Success isn't guaranteed, depending on discussed conditions. Lastly, rules for effective city branding are outlined. The Authors Eric Häusler is a historian with a keen interest in social science concepts. Currently, he is conducting a habilitation project on urbanization processes in Tokyo, New York, and Zurich in the 1960s. Extended research stays have taken him to Sophia University in Tokyo and presently to The New School and New York University in New York City. His most recent publication is his dissertation titled "Ökonomisches Scheitern. Solidarische Praktiken in Bern 1750-1900" (published by transcript Verlag). Jürgen Häusler is retired. At the beginning of his career, he engaged in social science research and later assumed leadership responsibilities for many years at a globally leading consulting firm specializing in brand development. Additionally, he taught at the University of Leipzig and published on the topic. Both authors share a passion for a multidisciplinary, theory-guided, and practice-oriented exploration of the phenomena of the city and city branding. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.

Abstract: This book investigates water issues in the Euphrates-Tigris basin between Turkey, Syria and Iraq (Iran). It presents the importance of water in the world and especially for the countries of the Euphrates-Tigris basin, the water resources of the three riparian countries, their advantages and disadvantages, the amount of reservoir construction in the three riparian countries, their water disagreements and conflicts, international water law. The importance of water in the Ottoman period is presented, the evolution of Turkey's water policy in the 20th and 21st centuries, the connection and interdependence of Turkey's water policy with its foreign and domestic policies are shown in detail. Separate reference is made to non-state actors, such as the Kurds of Turkey, Syria and Iraq. The work emphasizes that Turkey is a unique country in the world with its water policy in the Euphrates-Tigris basin: no other country is able to use water in such a multi-purpose way to achieve various goals. It is a theoretical approach influenced by continental philosophy and classical film theory, linked to a three-stage analytical model. The book introduces the theoretical foundations and, using various classical and contemporary examples from film history, presents a genuine method of film analysis. Abstract: Some (web) television texts achieve immense commercial success. Certain commercially successful texts boast dedicated, creative, and exponentially growing fandoms. These fan communities engage in specific fan practices that are significantly influenced by the textualities of the texts and their contexts of production, distribution, and consumption. Increased fan engagement resulting in the acceleration of the text’s popularity leads to the following inquiries: · How is the series influenced by the interactions among and the relationships between the producers, consumers, distributors, and content? · What are the sites of these interactions? · What are the social, cultural, economic, and political factors that impact the series? · How do the text’s contexts of production, distribution, and consumption lead to the text’s popularity in mainstream media? In pursuit of an answer to these questions, the analytical lens of the ‘mediaverse’ is developed. An inductive study, this book explores four television series’ that fall within the scope of speculative fiction to characterise the mediaverse and highlight the interconnectedness among the networked nodes of new media. These wield a significant influence on the production and consumption of media and its presence in our everyday lives, thus outlining the mediaverse as a tool for the analysis of a media texts and practices that shape contemporary media culture. About the author Ashumi Shah is a PhD graduate from the University of Augsburg. Currently, she is using her powers for good in the areas of content marketing and copywriting.

Abstract: Why did the postcolonial Tunisian state promise development? How do these promises reverberate in the hopes and dreams of Tunisians today? And how do they fit into contemporary global capitalist structures of exploitation? Starting from the everyday life at a French factory in Tunisia this book explores the relationship between the political economy of Tunisia, postcolonial promises of the Tunisian state and the hopes and dreams of Tunisians working in the factory. It argues for taking the concept of development seriously not as a desirable policy goal but as a multi-dimensional social and political fact: as the unfolding of global capitalism, as a postcolonial nation-state project, and as a personal everyday imaginary. The book employs a longue durée perspective that analyzes contemporary desires and expectations while tracing and placing them inside Tunisia’s history. It thus contributes to our understanding of state-society relations and global capitalism in Tunisia. About the author André Weißenfels is a research associate at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin. His research focusses on the political economy of West Asia and North Africa as well as community decision-making processes and collective resource management.

    Abstract: Introduction -- Dualism: A sexual tradition -- Butler's constructivism -- Reflection.
Abstract: For more than 30 years, Judith Butler's thesis that gender is constructed has led to unresolved misunderstandings and conflicting interpretations. This work engages with Butler's constructivism epistemologically and develops the thesis that Butler is misunderstood for the very reasons their philosophy critiques: the necessities of thought imposed by traditional metaphysics and its dualistic conceptual framework. "Matter" is not a neutral or prediscursive concept but is always already embedded in a gendered discourse and functions as the constitutively excluded. Kantian epistemology serves here as both an example of implicitly misogynistic philosophy and a framework to understand the misinterpretations of Butler as well as the fundamental epistemological issue—the relationship between the knowing subject and "reality". What does it mean for Butler that even material aspects are constructed yet real, without developing an idealistic concept of reality? Abstract: “[I]f humanitarian intervention is, indeed, an unacceptable assault on sovereignty, how should we respond to a Rwanda, to a Srebrenica—to gross and systematic violations of human rights that offend every precept of our common humanity?” – Kofi Annan This question asked by Kofi Annan over twenty years ago has not lost its relevance since, as for instance demonstrated by the paralysis of the Security Council in the face of the continued use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime against its own population. The present work addresses the question of whether the unilateral use of force by states for humanitarian purposes, hence without a Security Council authorization, could be justified via the concept of 'humanitarian countermeasures’. In this context, humanitarian countermeasures are derived from the notion of countermeasures, which stems from the law of state responsibility as conceived in Art. 49 et seq. DARS and traditionally only refers to peaceful, bilateral measures. The core of the study is to open up countermeasures to humanitarian military action, discuss the legal feasibility of such an approach, while effectively containing the potential for abuse by establishing a legal framework. In a final step, concrete conditions for humanitarian countermeasures are defined, which can guide a reinterpretation of countermeasures and the further development of customary law.

Abstract: In the ghetto, transit and concentration camp Theresienstadt, film recordings were made with the forced participation of the deportees and became known under the title "Theresienstadt - A Documentary from the Jewish Settlement Area". As a particularly perfidious part of National Socialist propaganda, these recordings continue to have an effect to the present day: Deniers of the National Socialist genocide still refer to this film today. Abstract: The impact of the digital transformation on countries’ sustainable development is increasingly discussed in both theory and practice. This multidisciplinary book analyzes the implications of digital technologies and services for governance structures and government action, particularly in Kenya. Using the emerging concept of digital ecosystems, it uniquely combines digital development, sustainability, and governance research. This book identifies factors characterizing digital ecosystems and challenges to their sustainable digital development (e.g., lack of common understanding, power asymmetries and dependencies of multi-stakeholders). For addressing these challenges, it proposes coordination mechanisms including governance roles, governance formats such as multi-stakeholder partnerships, as well as alternative solutions such as coordinative digital platforms. These findings emphasize a deeper discussion around the digital transformation as a driving force and the global emphasis on partnerships if these are to foster and not impede sustainable development. About the author Carolin Stötzel holds a PhD in Political Science focusing on digital policy and international cooperation. She is an expert in digital transformation, governance, and sustainable development.

Abstract: This volume offers a media-theoretically oriented perspective on the Space Race. It analyzes feature films, documentaries, live television coverage, magazines, stamps, posters, ticker-tape parades. It will be shown how reporting on the Space Race between 1955 and 1975 can be explained as a globalizing history of the intertwining of images during the Cold War. Abstract: The film of the so-called Islamic State is part of the still relatively opaque history of radical Sunni Islamist video propaganda, a field in which it is simultaneously its strongest exponent. Through its imports of aesthetics in the age of digitalization and the concurrent de-professionalization of film, this violent propaganda film has interestingly drawn attention for its seeming likeness to Hollywood film, an odd comparison that the Islamic State itself opposes through its own filmic antagonisms to commercial cinema. In an intermittent attempt at attacking cinematic illusionism, it has made increasing use of cinematic devices in order to communicate its violent and anti-humanist ideology – and has thereby entered a state of filmic self-contradiction. This book analyzes and uncovers the mechanisms and dynamics of ideological communication in the Islamic State’s videos through a combined historical and neoformalist approach, making them predictable for future researchers. About the author Yorck Beese is a film director, video producer and film scholar. During his time as a researcher in the junior research group Jihadism on the Internet (2017-2022), he has intensively researched the propaganda film of radical Sunni Islamism as well as other propaganda films. His fields of expertise include film analysis, propaganda film history, film aesthetics, and narratology.

Abstract: The Euro crisis of 2008 had a deep impact on German-Greek relations. The exchange of blows in media, and amongst politicians created a deep divide and made old wounds visible - wounds that lie in the Occupation of Greece by Nazi Germany and its fascist allies during World War 2. In 2014 German foreign policy towards Greece shifted to include reconciliatory measures, marking the beginning of Germany's foreign policy of reconciliation. One area of focus is memory culture and the Greek martyr communities, meaning villages and towns that experienced extreme violence, destruction, and executions. Diving into these places of terror and memory, the book analyzes German foreign policy of reconciliation while providing a profound view onto history, diplomacy, and the widely unknown Greek memory landscape. It entails a thorough review of German-Greek relations, more than seven unique maps and 10 case studies, accompanied by photographs and over 35 interviews. It shows how foreign policy, conflict and reconciliation intertwine and how international affairs meet the local level of everyday citizens. About the author Charalampos Babis Karpouchtsis is a political scientist with a background in foreign policy, strategy and memory studies. He finished his PhD in conflict and reconciliation studies in the Jena Center for Reconciliation Studies. He is a research associate in the University of the Armed Forces in Hamburg and a JCRS fellow.

Abstract: Located within the field of journalism research, this book deals with multimedia storytelling in digital journalism. It focuses on the very fundamental question of how previously established forms of presentation can and have evolved in the digital age. Using a multi-method design, it first conducts a systematic literature analysis of international studies on the selected topic (n=381). Hypotheses derived from this study serve as the basis for a quantitative content analysis of more than 1,700 multimedia stories from German and US media companies, which also forms the core of the analysis. In a final step, the thesis discusses these findings with journalists and story producers from Germany and the USA (n=21). Overall, multimedia stories were produced in a complex and resource-intensive manner just a decade ago, but have since developed into an established and consolidated format in editorial departments. Technological development, the focus on the needs of the audience and the "turn to mobile" are determining the future of the format. About the author Rosanna Planer is a research associate at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies at Leipzig University. Her research focuses on innovative forms of journalistic storytelling, such as multimedia stories, virtual reality, and podcasts.

Abstract: This textbook provides an overview of the fundamentals of game theory and its applications in various fields. It introduces game theory as an established toolkit for the mathematical analysis and evaluation of strategic decisions. Through applied exercises, it introduces the basic concepts of game theory and offers students from various disciplines the opportunity to practice the concepts through in-depth training. Written for advanced undergraduate and graduate students with basic mathematical training, the textbook provides student-friendly explanations, a variety of exercises and problems, and useful references to further reading. The book is divided into a beginner-friendly theory section, in which the most important aspects are presented in a compact and clear manner, and an application-oriented problem section, in which the reader can directly check what they have learned and find many application examples. The latter can also be used as a source of inspiration for instructors. This book is a translation of an original German edition. Abstract: Corona as a staged instrument of oppression, covered up vaccination deaths or child-blood-drinking politicians: at the latest since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, conspiracy ideologies have been booming. These so-called ‘conspiracy theories’ promote the spread of disinformation and generate distrust of legitimate political institutions. In this way, they contribute to the rise of social polarization, populist movements and extremist ideologies. Conspiracy ideologies have always been a topic in movies and TV series, as they have always dealt with the relationship between reality and illusion, truth and fiction, reality and dream, sense and madness. Through their complex narratives, constellations of characters and aesthetics, TV shows and films offer compelling explanations for the emergence and spread of conspiracy narratives. At the same time, they make suggestions – some of them astonishingly concrete – for dealing with such collective delusions. How can insights from the fictional worlds of TV and films help us to understand and handle the challenges produced by the real contemporary phenomenon of conspiracy ideologies? The editors Denis Newiak (Dr. phil.) is a research associate at the Chair of Applied Media Sciences at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Germany. His research focuses in the following areas: macro- and microsocial functions of serial television, disruptive events in science fiction movies and TV shows, aesthetics of social isolation in film and television. Anastasia Schnitzer (M. Sc.) is a graduate assistant at the Department of Communication Studies and Media Research DCM at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). She is pursuing her PhD on the influence of character portrayals and the quality of mediated intergroup interaction in entertainment media on expectation, stereotyping and stigma towards perceived outgroups. Her broader research interests include intervention research and empathy in health communication. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. Abstract: This book discusses the requirements and preconditions for transforming the economy in order to achieve defined goals while maintaining and utilizing the efficiency of markets. It shows how economic concepts and practices need to be reconsidered and revised in the face of enormous ecological damage and significant economic inequality across much of the world. The book systematizes essential ecological and social targets and presents factors influencing Economic Transformation. Various transformation concepts are discussed with regard to their contribution to adequate economic design and corresponding options for action are developed. Businesses, private households, the state and the commons are involved in these reflections, but also supranational institutions and (civil) society. The ecological compatibility of the economy and the reduction of excessive divergencies in income and wealth are the guiding principles of the overall considerations. In addition, the extent to which the concerns of Economic Transformation are reflected in the government programs of the USA, Great Britain, South Africa and Germany is examined. The book will be of interest to anyone who shares the belief that increasing well-being in a market-oriented society must go hand in hand with ecological compatibility and improved social equity, both globally and within societies.

Abstract: German Structural Pacifism examines the influence of Germany’s lessons of the past on its security policy since reunification in an approach that is both novel and timely in the context of the Russia-Ukraine War. Germany’s lessons of the past provide contradictory “right ways” for Germany to overcome its authoritarian past and serve to legitimate political interests in security policy decision-making. Reconciling competing political interests and contradictory narratives results in a security policy that prioritizes “the right way” to do security policy is over its effectiveness. It is the author’s great merit to have defined the past 30 years of German security policy under the term “Structural Pacifism.” I find this conclusive. Abstract: Introduction -- (European) youth policy and why research it -- Europeanisation and soft law -- EU Youth Strategy and fsQCA -- Case study analysis -- Conclusions.
Abstract: Influence of “hard” law on national policies still is a central topic in Europeanisation research. One aspect often overlooked is the impact of “soft” law instruments such as the “Open Method of Coordination” (OMC). Through the OMC all member states agree on common goals and exchange “best practices” to improve policy coordination in a certain area without the obligation (how) to design policies. OMC impacts in individual member states have been studied extensively, yet a comparative perspective explaining their variance is lacking. This study by Niclas Beinborn tries to fill this gap by analysing the different impacts of a recent OMC: the European Youth Strategy 2010 (EUYS). His analysis is twofold: in a first step he applies theory-driven fuzzy-set QCA to a novel dataset depicting the variance of national activities around the EUYS. As causalities remain unclear, in a second step he presents an innovative analysis framework encompassing two dimensions – national motivation and relative openness to implement non-binding EU law – to define ideal types of OMC adaptation. Case studies on the EUYS in Germany and Ireland proof the potential of this framework to explain why and how OMCs work (differently). About the author Niclas Beinborn worked as a research associate at the German Research Institute for Public Administration in Speyer. There, he extensively studied child and youth policy in Germany and Europe. As of 2021, he works as a desk officer in the federal administration.

Abstract: This handbook maps the media economy in its entirety against the background of the advancing digitalization of communication, media production, media distribution and the adaptation of regulatory framework conditions from different disciplinary approaches. It provides an integrated view on digitally induced economic transformations of the European media sector, and gives an explicitly European perspective on media economics – challenging the dominant US-American view. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: Theoretical approaches to media economics; media technologies and data management in media economics; building blocks of the media industry; media types and core distribution markets; system aspects and communication culture; media systems and regulatory policy; as well as methods of media economics. The handbook is a must-read for students, teachers and researchers in media and communication economics and science,as well as practicioners and policy-makers at the nexus of media, business and politics.

Abstract: In this anthology, a journey around the world and through time is undertaken in 21 countries on no less than six continents. In this way, the global reception of one of the biggest media events to date is given contour. Based on the coverage of the first manned moon landing, the global history of the Cold War during the Space Race can be told in its many different local facets as well as in its worldwide interconnectedness. Against the backdrop of current efforts by various countries to return to the moon or even to establish a space army, as well as in view of the extremely tense geopolitical situation, which is already being invoked in many places as 'Cold War 2.0', such a global look back to the time of 'Cold War 1.0' certainly seems relevant in order to better understand the present and near future of political (media) cultures. Abstract: In today's digital era, the significance of standards in modernization and innovation cannot be overstated. Often overlooked as purely technical aspects, they today reveal their profound economic and political impact. Focusing on India and China, this book sheds light onto the standardization approaches of these two dynamic nations. With insights from both academic and practical perspectives, this book shows how China's centralized planning and structured institutions contrast with India's emerging hybrid model, which reflects its rich diversity. Both countries possess untapped technological potential that is poised to reshape the global standardization landscape. What do these developments mean for the German and European economies? Find out in the concluding chapters as the authors explore the implications of these standardization trends on a global scale. This book is essential reading for professionals navigating the ever-evolving intersection of modernization, innovation, and global standards, as well as for researchers interested in a better understanding of standardization strategies. .

Abstract: The welcome culture of 2015 in Germany has, not least due to the (re)definition of safe countries of origin, turned into a deportation policy. How can this change in policy be understood and is it also accompanied by a change of attitude among the population? Which reasons for and which reasons against the admission of refugees are cited in social debates? This volume brings together analyses of the social discourse on dealing with refugees, questions of labour market integration and the practice of counselling refugees. Alongside academic analyses are reflective contributions from the practice of migration policy. Abstract: Introduction -- Understanding Germany’s Use of the Navy in Foreign Policy -- The State, Maritime Security and The Navy as an Instrument of Foreign Policy -- Phase 1: First Steps in International Crisis-Response -- Phase 2: The War on Terror: Becoming An Expeditionary Force for Good Order at Sea -- Phase 3: Comprehensive Maritime Security and Ocean Governance -- The Navy and Germany’s New Global Role -- Concluding Remarks -- Epilogue: The German Navy, Maritime Security and Zeitenwende -- Bibliography.
Abstract: Since the Cold War and beyond the Zeitenwende, Germany has increasingly come to rely on its navy as an instrument of foreign policy. The German Navy supports comprehensive maritime security and ocean governance, and its missions not only reflect its own evolution, but also change within Germany. This is a marked shift for the ‘continental power’ Germany and forms a substantial component of its much broader ‘maritime turn’ in the 21st century. Changes in strategic context, new security challenges and Germany’s evolving international role after reunification have altered the perception of the navy’s utility. Its share in the Bundeswehr’s personnel has grown and the navy has seen proportionally higher investment – or relatively less cuts owing to the post-Cold War 'peace dividend' – than either army or airforce. The author shows, that the navy has markedly changed and become increasingly useful for Germany’s foreign policy – something which, in the stormy seas of geopolitical escalation of the Zeitenwende, has already paid dividends. About the author Dr. Moritz Brake is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) at the University of Bonn. He is also Managing Director and Co-Founder of a company focusing on leveraging innovative technology for maritime security, as well as an officer in the reserve of the German Navy with over 21 years of active service experience - including in deployments in the UN mission UNIFIL and EU mission ATALANTA.
