Abstract: "Systems Engineering is a natural tool for business decisions. But no one uses it. This is because it's rare for someone with both sets of degrees and experience (business and systems engineering) to become successful without having an MBA, until Joshua Jahani. Business owners and educators need a logical method for considering global expansion based on data, facts, trends, and valuations. Systems Engineering tools naturally lend themselves to macro-economic and business analysis"--

Abstract: "Community planning is a path towards social progress, balancing and integrating change and maintaining valued cultural traditions and lifestyles. It brings together fields of practice and theory, too often isolated from each other. It spans community organization, urban and regional planning, design, communication, housing, employment, transport, and governance. Planning is a synthesis, drawing links between personal values, human activities, physical spaces and societal governance. Members, activists, and organizers need guidance to navigate various wants, rights, activities, funds, options, and choices to work together to create stronger, healthier, and happier communities. Planning for Community examines the accelerating impacts of social, environmental, and economic change on community life and organization and explores ways in which these changes can be anticipated, planned, and managed. It reviews and evaluates the evolving nature and challenges of place and interaction faced by traditional local communities. The author devotes chapters to understanding the values, aims, and methods of community planning and to the key operations in each of the fields of housing, work, transport, health, and environment. The final chapter offers inspiration for individuals to become more involved and influential in the lives of their local and wider communities"--

Abstract: "The internet was created to bring us together. But somewhere along the way, that vision was lost. We handed over our data to centralized figures, allowed big tech to thrive off our creations, and accepted our place in a system that is seemingly out of our control. However, in the far corners of the internet, a new story is being written. The authors are not big tech. No. The authors are you and me. Some of the learnings will center around Web3, NFT and the Metaverse. Let this be your on-ramp to the future of the digital world. This is a business fable about a brand which is struggling to figure out how to improve their customer experience. The technical and marketing teams need to work together to present solutions to the board who has asked for use cases with new technologies like web3 and metaverses to achieve their goals. The newly appointed Chief Growth Officer, Victoria McSay, recognizes the potential of the new approaches, technology and the concept of community to help them experience and understand the customer emPOWERowerment of the new internet"--

Abstract: "Real estate is an essential part of life, providing the buildings for living, working, learning and leisure activities. Non-domestic real estate is comprised of a huge range of buildings, including office, retail, industrial, leisure, medical and hotel properties. In the UK, the commercial real estate sector has a market value of around £1.7 trillion (2019 data) and is one of the fundamental building blocks of the UK economy, directly employing more than one million people and supporting an additional million, while also contributing over £100 billion to the UK's economy each year (about 7% of UK GVA). Worldwide, it is estimated that the value of commercial real estate is around $33.3 trillion, with the US ($8.1t), China ($3.6t), Japan ($2.8t), Germany ($1.7t) and the UK ($1.7t) being the largest markets (2017 data). China also accounts for the largest share of global residential value, thanks to national house price growth and a rapid programme of housebuilding. Emerging markets, especially in Asia, are also experiencing fast growth in both commercial and residential property value"--

Abstract: "Concrete City: Material Flows and Urbanisation in West Africa delivers a theoretically informed, ethnographic exploration of the African urban world through concrete. Emblematic of frenetic and capitalistic urban development, this pervasive material is shaping contemporary urban landscapes and societies across West Africa and transforming the region's links to the world. Concrete stands and circulates at the heart of major financial investments, political powers, and environmental debates. As a result, it has come to epitomize values of modernity and success, and has redefined social practices, forms of dwelling, and popular imaginaries. The book invites readers to follow bags of cement as they travel from industrial production plants to construction sites along the 1000-kilometer urban corridor that links Abidjan to Accra, Lome̹, Cotonou and Lagos. This cement traverses the lives of industrial tycoons, entrepreneurs and political stakeholders, as well as the ordinary men and women who plan, build, and dream of the Concrete City. In this innovative exploration of the urban life of concrete, Armelle Choplin delivers an incisive reflection on the material limits to the world's sustainable urban future."--

Abstract: "Across all industries, leaders today are operating on shifting sands, trying to carve out success in a landscape that's constantly changing and highly uncertain. Aside from the disruptive effects of the pandemic, reports and forecasting data shows how 14 megatrends are reshaping the world we live in, creating a complex array of tensions for businesses leaders to navigate. These megatrends include advancing technology, climate change, rising inequality, and hyper connection via social media and they are forcing leaders to perform under an array of business tensions such as creating long-term value whilst delivering short-term targets, driving change whilst building stability, creating values-based belonging whilst celebrating difference, and protecting well-being whilst delivering high performance. For leaders to combat these forces they need to embrace paradoxical thinking into their day-to-day decision making"--

Abstract: "Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs) produce continuous, quiet electrical power for spacecraft exploring our solar system and the space beyond. These generators use thermoelectric technologies to convert heat produced by the natural decay of radioisotopes into electrical power. Two leading thermoelectric material systems have emerged as contenders to supplant currently available thermoelectric materials. Each is at a differing level of readiness for flight. Both are poised to emerge from the laboratory and be brought to production for newer, potentially more powerful RTGs. This should enable spacecraft and mission designers to save on mass and radioisotope fuel consumption. In addition, one of the technologies is so efficient and powerful as to enable new mission types."--

Abstract: DIGITAL TWIN TECHNOLOGY The book lucidly explains the fundamentals of digital twin technology along with its applications and various industrial real-world examples. Digital twin basically means a replicated model of any object or product in digital form. A digital twin has many advantages as it remains connected with the original object or product it is replicating and receives real-time data. Therefore, the obstacles and issues that could be encountered in a product or object can be known before their actual happening which helps to prevent errors and major losses which otherwise might have been incurred. The various capabilities of digital twin technology make it a powerful tool that can be used to effectively boost various sectors of the healthcare, automotive, and construction industries, among others. Although this technology has been making its way into various sectors, it has not yet received the kind of exposure necessary to increase awareness of its potential in these industries. Therefore, it is critical that a better understanding of digital twin technology is acquired to facilitate growth and to have it implemented in the various sectors so that transformation can be ushered in. Therefore, this book was designed to be a useful resource for those who want to become well acquainted with digital twin technology. Abstract: "The science of behavioral economics explains the ways people are "predictably irrational." This book helps leaders understand how people "tick", how they react to incentives (monetary or non-monetary in nature) and what that means for working together - or against each other - at work. Understanding people is crucial for success in business and organizational life. But people are weird. The science of behavioral economics can help leaders understand the ways people are "predictably irrational" and what leaders can do about it. This book explains fascinating ways employees react to incentives (monetary or non-monetary) and what that means for teamwork - or working against each other - at work. Modern behavioral economics research is better suited than any other research direction to pursue these questions and provide answers. The author, one of the most influential economists in Germany, has been researching behavioral economics for 20 years and takes you on a journey to summarize for leaders the most important findings in the discpline, both for your own personal career, but also for the people and teams you lead"--
Abstract: Every leader should know the surprising research and strange conclusions of behavioral economics--for fairness, teamwork and productivityYou and your colleagues don't always make rational decisions. Sometimes that's a problem that leaders must address, and and sometimes that can be a good thing--when employees put their colleagues interests ahead of their own. Dr. Matthias Sutter, a leading economist from Germany's world-renowned Max Planck Institute explains the latest surprising insights based on behavioral economics research. The book explains how people tick, how they react to incentives (monetary or non-monetary in nature) and what that means for working together--or against each other--at work.Dr. Sutter summarizes new and classic behavorial science research that applies the everyday business world, so leaders can improve teams and organizations, the research-based way. Find out which factors are important for professional success, from career entry to senior management. Start your career on the right footing, advance quicker, and strategize how to meet your goals Understand what's holding your colleagues back from productivity and implement evidence-based changes Identify hidden biases in yourself and others to overcome inequalities and inefficiencies Become a better leader and decision-maker by learning to interpret people's actionsIndividuals, organizations, and teams will benefit from the often-counterintuitive wisdom in this book. Based on the author's 20 years of research--plus the findings of the world's top behavioral economists--Behavioral Economics for Leaders can help you get your team and your organization where you want to lead it

Abstract: "The Commodification Gap is an insightful institutionalist perspective on the field of gentrification studies. It is based on the empirical study of the relationship between the operation of gentrification and the institutions underpinning - but also influencing and restricting - it in three neighborhoods in London, Berlin and St. Petersburg. Matthias Bernt demonstrates how different institutional arrangements have resulted in the facilitation, deceleration or alteration of gentrification across time and place. The book is based on empirical studies conducted in Great Britain, Germany and Russia and contains one of the first-ever English language discussions of gentrification in Germany and Russia. It begins with an examination of the limits of the popular "rent-gap" theory and proposes the novel concept of the "commodification gap." It then moves on to explore how different institutional contexts in the UK, Germany and Russia have framed the conditions for these gaps to enable gentrification. The Commodification Gap is an indispensable resource for researchers and academics studying human geography, housing studies, urban sociology and spatial planning."--

Abstract: "Reflective practice matters. It matters because it opens a gateway for practitioners' to learn and grow towards realising their potential and their visions of practice as a lived reality. A reflective practitioner is someone who lives reflection naturally within everyday practice. It is a mindful way to practice whereby the practitioner pays attention within the unfolding experience, mindful of responding most appropriately in tune with their vision. It is a process of self-realization. Rolling Thunder describes this as 'seeking and knowing one's own identity' [Boyd 1974:7]. Reflective practitioners learn through reflection on experience. In this way the practitioner gains insights that inform future experiences within a reflexively spiral of being and becoming. I assume that the practitioner's practice matters to them and that values and vision are important. Hence realising one's vision of practice as a lived reality must be the aim of every practitioner who take themselves seriously. Recipients of service deserve nothing less. The emphasis of this book is on becoming a reflective practitioner. Becoming is a journey. No matter the practitioner's level of experience or status. It commences with a first reflection on experience. In the uncertainty and uniqueness of everyday practice practitioners face situations that often feel chaotic. As Salzberg notes (2002:76) 'No matter how much we want it to otherwise. The truth is that we are not in control of the unfolding of our experience. We can affect and influence and impact what happens, but we can't wake up in the morning and decide what we will encounter and feel and be confronted by during the day'. The book is designed to guide both student and registered practitioners at any level of professional learning, along with their guides, teachers, and managers, to become reflective practitioners, not just clinical practitioners but also educators, managers, and most significantly leaders able to enable others to grow and fulfil their potential. Although the book's background is health care it is a resource for all professions who aspire to offer a service to people"--

Abstract: "Disasters are defined as deadly, destructive, and disruptive events that occur when hazards, or multiple hazards, interact with vulnerability. The hazard can be an agent or threat such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, industrial explosions, or terrorist's attacks. Vulnerability, on the other hand, refers to the proneness of people to disasters based on factors such as their geographic location, exposed property, and level of income. The disaster response is the activity in the immediate aftermath of a disaster to protect life and property. Disaster recovery is the process, policies and procedures that are related to returning the affected community to pre-disaster or preferably, improved conditions."--

Abstract: "Corrosion management is a relatively new assessment method that industries use to look at the dimensions of corrosion problems. Corrosion demonstrates itself as localized corrosion and uniform corrosion. There are several forms of corrosion such as, but not limited to, atmospheric corrosion, Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), Corrosion under insulation (CUI) and the like. These corrosion forms have forced engineers to look at corrosion within the framework of corrosion management (CM). The ultimate of CM models is to control corrosion to minimize its costs. However, we believe that these models are not complete enough to cover all aspects of corrosion and to compensate for that, we need to have a system much smarter and more encompassing."--

Abstract: REVIEWS IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY THE LATEST VOLUME IN THE REVIEWS IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY SERIES, THE INVALUABLE REFERENCE TO METHODS AND TECHNIQUES IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY Reviews in Computational Chemistry reference texts assist researchers in selecting and applying new computational chemistry methods to their own research. Bringing together writings from leading experts in various fields of computational chemistry, V olume 32 covers topics including global structure optimization, time-dependent density functional tight binding calculations, non-equilibrium self-assembly, cluster prediction, and molecular simulations of microphase formers and deep eutectic solvents. In keeping with previous books in the series, Volume 32 uses a non-mathematical style and tutorial-based approach that provides students and researchers with easy access to computational methods outside their area of expertise. The chapters comprising Volume 32 are connected by two themes: methods that can be broadly applied to a variety of systems, and special considerations required when modeling specific system types. Each in-depth chapter contains background and theory, strategies for using the methods correctly, mini-tutorials and best practices, and critical literature reviews highlighting advanced applications. Essential reading for both newcomers and experts in the area of molecular modeling, this state-of-the-art resource: Covers topics such as non-deterministic global optimization (NDGO) approaches and excited-state dynamics calculations Contains a detailed overview of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and simulation methods Presents methodologies for investigating chemical systems that form microphases with periodic morphologies such as lamellae and cylinders Features step-by-step tutorials on applying techniques to probe and understand the chemical dynamics exhibited in a system Includes detailed subject indices on each volume in the series and up-to-date compendiums of molecular modeling software, services, programs, suppliers, and other useful information Reviews in Computational Chemistry, Volume 32 is a must-have guide for computational chemists, theoretical chemists, pharmaceutical chemists, biological chemists, chemical engineers, researchers in academia and industry, and graduate students involved in molecular modeling.

Abstract: Abstract: Endorsers such as social media influencers who aim to match consumers’ personality to strengthen their credibility must consider that actual self‐congruence and ideal self‐congruence have different effects on the main dimensions of credibility: perceived trustworthiness and perceived competence. In our study, we conceptually argue that actual self‐congruence is associated more strongly with a closer psychological distance and, in turn, with trustworthy information, and we empirically show that perceived trustworthiness solely mediates the effect of actual self‐congruence on consumer behavior. Subsequently, we conceptually argue that ideal self‐congruence is more strongly related to ideal skills and therefore should be more strongly related to perceived competence, and we empirically demonstrate that perceived competence solely mediates the effect of ideal self‐congruence on consumer behavior. Our findings explain the mechanism behind the effects of actual and ideal self‐congruence and demonstrate important differences in authentic and aspirational marketing strategies with regard to creating the perception of trustworthiness and competence via social media influencers

Abstract: "Youth Urban Worlds: Aesthetic Political Action in Montreal grapples with the interaction between urban environments and cultures and the political process. Authors Boudreau and Rondeau argue persuasively that urban cultures challenge the very meaning and contours of the political process. With ethnographies delving into the perspectives and knowledges of racialized youth, urban farmers, and "voluntary risk takers," like dumpster divers, building climbers, and student protestors, Youth Urban Worlds theorizes aesthetics as an increasingly crucial form of political action in the contemporary urban setting. This interdisciplinary work, weaving together aspects of philosophy, critical geography, political sociology, urban anthropology, urban studies, and cultural studies, examines the centrality of fun, warmth, aesthetics, and embodiment to these youth's experiences of being in the world. Aesthetics serves as the predominant lens through which the lived reality of the subjects of the book is understood. It also explains how youth are able to practically and concretely impact the political process through the performance of risky and disruptive behavior. Moving from a contemporary history of urban Montreal from 1960, to an ethnographic description of the realities of urban youth in that city today, Youth Urban Worlds describes and explains the impact of aesthetics on the political."--...
