    Abstract: "An absence limit for upper secondary school in Norway was introduced in 2016. The objective was to get more students to attend school more regularly. There were considerable protests at the time – especially from the students – and now five years on, the question is: Has the absence limit helped? Has attendance increased? And if so, at what cost? The Absence Limit in Upper Secondary School. Viewpoints, Outcomes and Experiences presents the results of a comprehensive evaluation of the new ordinance from three perspectives: the students’, the schools’, and their support networks’. The book starts with the main characters – the students – and then looks at the schools, and finally at the various support persons in students’ lives. Three questions structure the book: To what extent has absenteeism among different groups of students been reduced as a result of the absence limit? Spørsmålet fem år etter er om fraværsgrensen har hjulpet. Har elevenes nærvær på skolene økt? Og i tilfelle, til hvilken pris? Fraværsgrensen i videregående skole. Perspektiver, konsekvenser og erfaringer presenterer resultatene fra en grundig evaluering av det nye regelverket sett fra tre ståsteder; elevenes, skolenes og hjelpeapparatets. Boken starter med hovedpersonene, elevene, for deretter å se på skolene og til slutt på laget rundt elevene. Central themes are comprehension and knowledge development, and the students’ process of formation is essential, without it being explicit in all the articles. The authors are concerned with interplay between techne and fronesis related to individual growth and professional development. The informants of these studies are teacher students from year 1-4, resulting in a wide range of new knowledge and theoretical viewpoints. In this anthology, the question of the dualism between theory and practice is raised. Could it be that knowledge is a circular production from practise to theory and back? It is also evident that the sensation of social belonging is closely connected to a sense of academic belonging, and that the cohesion of teacher students and their teachers is of great impact.     Abstract: "Studenten skal bli lærer presenterer den første norske studien av tilhørighet i høyere utdanning. Forståelse og utvikling av kunnskap er sentrale temaer, og studenters danning belyses, uten at danning blir eksplisitt diskutert i alle bidragene. Mange av forfatterne er opptatt av samspillet mellom episteme, techne og fronesis i forhold til den enkeltes vekst og profesjonelle kompetanseutvikling. Med lærerstudenter fra 1.–4. årskull som informanter favner artiklene bredt og gir ny kunnskap og nye teoretiske vinklinger. I antologien stilles det blant annet spørsmål ved dualismen som ofte påpekes mellom teoretisk og erfaringsbasert kunnskap. Kanskje er det heller sånn at kunnskap produseres sirkulært mellom forelesningssal og praksisfeltet? Videre fremgår det også at opplevelsen av sosial tilhørighet ser ut til å være en forutsetning for akademisk tilhørighet, og at medstudenter sammen med faglærere har stor betydning. Denne fagfellevurderte antologien retter seg hovedsakelig mot lærerutdanningen og lærerutdannere. Men bidragene kan også være aktuelle for andre utdanninger, og for studenter."

    Abstract: "More and more people have to write in their jobs, and some need to write for publication. Students must learn to write in new genres, and their teachers not only need to write but also help others develop their own writing. Even though writing is often essential for learning a discipline and developing a professional identity, these aspects are often overlooked in academic settings. A surprising number of us struggle with writing, and often do so alone. Writing touches upon deeply personal processes concerning who we are in the eyes of others and how we view ourselves. This book elucidates the creative and subjective sides of professional and academic writing, which are in fact quite similar to those of literary writing. In the interview material, students and researchers share their experiences of the difficulties and the joys of writing, as well as personal decisions they have made in the course of becoming creative writers in their fields. In the discussion, a conceptual repertoire is developed from the philosophy of education, theories of identity development and recognition, to transcend the common belief that writing is something we either can or cannot master. The book will be of use to those who help others to write, and a source of inspiration for those who struggle with their own writing. The author is director of the Academic Writing Centre at the University of Oslo Library and editorial director of the website Søk & Skriv (Search & Write). She holds a doctoral degree in the philosophy of education and has many years’ experience as a university lecturer, supervisor and professional academic writer."
    Abstract: "Stadig flere mennesker har yrker der de må skrive, og noen må skrive for å publisere. Studenter må lære seg å skrive i nye sjangre, og lærerne deres må ikke bare skrive selv, men også hjelpe andre med å gjøre det. Selv om det å skrive ofte er vesentlig for å tilegne seg et fag og en faglig identitet, er disse sidene ved arbeidet som regel lite belyst innenfor den faglige virksomheten. Overraskende mange sliter med å skrive, og de gjør det ofte alene. Skriving berører dypt personlige prosesser som angår hvem vi er for andre og hvordan vi ser på oss selv. Boka retter søkelys mot de kreative og subjektive sidene ved skriveprosessen i faglitterær skriving, som viser seg å ikke være så forskjellige fra den skjønnlitterære skrivingen. Her intervjues studenter og forskere som setter ord på det vanskelige ved skriveprosessen, gledene ved skriving og beslutningene underveis i utviklingen mot å bli en faglig, kreativ skriver. Gjennom pedagogisk-filosofiske diskusjoner om identitet, anerkjennelse og viktige overganger tilbyr boka et forståelsesrepertoar som overskrider forestillingen om at skriving er noe man enten er god eller dårlig til. This complex scenario is expanded by their first experiences, far from the eyes of adults, with technologies: tools that add, on the relational universe just described, an existential dimension that opens up new forms of communication mediated by digital contexts. What dynamics are involved? What kind of technology is at stake? Is there a relationship of influence between the relationships mediated by the digital contexts and the social climate of a learning environment? What kind of influence?     Abstract: "Human Worth – A Challenge for School and Society addresses the question of whether all human beings’ lives have equal value. To answer, the authors examine how we should understand the value of human life. Human worth and equality are both fundamental principles in education, but there are countless examples of how difficult these concepts can be in actual practice. There is also scant discussion within the school system that touches on our understanding of what human worth in school is. Samtidig er det mange eksempler på hvor vanskelig det er å sette begreper som likeverd og menneskeverd ut i praksis. I tillegg er det få debatter i skolen som berører selve forståelsen av hva menneskeverd er i skolen. Dette er oppsiktsvekkende, og vi ser det som en utfordring for skole og samfunn. Boka er en antologi på ni kapitler om menneskeverd i typiske «menneskefag» i skolen, som pedagogikk, filosofi, samfunnsfag, religion, norsk og kunst- og håndverk. Den gir en innføring i hva menneskeverd kan være både fra ulike teoretiske ståsted, og med eksempler fra skole og samfunnsliv. Kapitlene i boka reiser spørsmål om verdighet, likeverd, innenfor- og utenforskap, og hvilke ressurser mennesket tar i bruk i møte med utfordringer."

Coordination is central to creating integrated services for users with complex needs. The book's chapters takes on an organizational perspective where patterns and explanations are sought in formal and informal structures, processes and culture. The users’ need for services often cross established boundaries, both organizational and professional. The authors highlight the possibilities and limitations of some selected solutions that will help to cut across or break down such boundaries. Examples of such solutions are user involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, team organizations, coordinators, standardization and patient pathways, digitization and decision-making tools for employees who work in the services.     Abstract: "I TIMSS Advanced, en studie av elevers kunnskaper i det siste året i videregående skole, var de norske elevenes kompetanse i fysikk helt i verdenstoppen i 1995, noe som ble lagt merke til både nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Siden den gang har det vært en dramatisk nedgang i de norske elevenes prestasjoner. I TIMSS Advanced 2015 målte vi en tilbakegang i elevenes kunnskapesnivå i fysikk på trekvart standardavvik fra 1995. Det er en større nedgang enn vi i Norge har målt i noe annet fag i noen andre internasjonale studier, på noe nivå i skolen. Norge har deltatt i TIMSS Advanced i videregående skole og i TIMSS i grunnskolen jevnlig siden 1995. Vi har derfor en stor databank som gir oss muligheter til å studere og analysere utviklingen i Norge fra 1995 fra mange ulike synsvinkler og perspektiver. Mange av de utfordringene vi står overfor i dag, blant annet når det gjelder miljøet, kan kun løses gjennom forskning og kunnskapsutvikling innen fysikk og andre realfag. Vi trenger å utdanne folk med gode kunnskaper på dette området. At de norske elevenes fysikkprestasjoner har sunket dramatisk fra 1995 til 2015, er derfor bekymringsfullt. I boka tar vi opp og drøfter mange ulike sider for hvordan vi kan bedre de norsk elevenes kunnskaper i fysikk. Et viktig moment er at vi mener Norge har gode muligheter til å bedre undervisningen i fysikk og andre realfag. Vi greide å heve lesenivået blant norske elever gjennom systematisk samarbeid over tid med alle involverte aktører. Vi kan gjøre et tilsvarende løft for realfagene. Det vil være til det beste både for den enkelte elev og for samfunnet som helhet."

    Abstract: "How do you really become a skilled teacher? And what role should guidance play in the education of tomorrow's teachers? This theme is explored through a study of experienced practitioners' formalized counseling conversations with teacher students. The most important questions in the book are about how the practice teacher and teacher conduct conversations. Concretely, the question is: What is the content of the counseling interviews? How are the teacher students evaluated? How is the consequences of the counseling discussions understood? The guide being examined contains a step by step pedagogy. First, the teacher's student must learn to control, master and reflect on the social space both the classroom and the counseling conversation are. This is described as an overall moral and regulatory discourse. This discourse forms the basis for the teacher's next step - which is the actual teaching. The teacher's student must therefore master two discourses - one regulatory discourse and one teaching discourse - in order to become a skilled teacher. In addition, he or she must adapt to the regulatory discourse in the counseling conversation. The latter discourse represents in this book an initiation ritual for the teaching profession. This ritual gives the practice teacher control over the dedication, while limiting the room for maneuver in the counseling conversation. "
    Abstract: "Hvordan blir man egentlig en dyktig lærer? Og hvilken rolle skal veiledning spille i utdanningen av morgendagens lærere? Denne tematikken utforskes gjennom en studie av erfarne praksislæreres formaliserte veiledningssamtaler med lærerstudenter. De viktigste spørsmålene i boka handler om hvordan praksislærer og lærerstudenter gjennomfører veiledningssamtalene. Helt konkret spørres det: Hva er innholdet i veiledningssamtalene? Hvordan vurderes lærerstudentene? Hvordan forstås konsekvensene av veiledningssamtalene? Veiledningen som undersøkes, inneholder en trinnvis pedagogikk. Først må lærerstudenten lære seg å kontrollere, beherske og reflektere over det sosiale rommet både klasserommet og veiledningssamtalen er. Dette beskrives som en overordnet moralsk og regulerende diskurs. Denne diskursen danner grunnlaget for lærerstudentens neste trinn – som er selve undervisningen. Lærerstudenten må altså beherske to diskurser – én regulerende diskurs og én undervisningsdiskurs – for å bli en dyktig lærer. I tillegg må han eller hun tilpasse seg den regulerende diskursen i veiledningssamtalen. Den sistnevnte diskursen representerer i denne boka et innvielsesritual til læreryrket. Dette ritualet gir praksislæreren kontroll over innvielsen, samtidig som det begrenser handlingsrommet i veiledningssamtalen."

    Abstract: Serious illness prevents many students from attending school on a regular basis and can lead to long-term absence from the classroom. The consequent isolation impedes socialization and educational exchange between homebound students and their schoolmates, as well as interaction with their teachers. Moreover, these students face serious difficulties when they eventually manage to return to school. All these factors slow down homebound students’ learning progress and weaken their sense of belonging to their peer group. In response to these issues, Italy’s Ministry of Education (MIUR), National Research Council (CNR), and the TIM Foundation set up a project in 2013 named TRIS (Networked Technologies and Socio-educational Inclusion). The main aim of the project is to develop a flexible and scalable intervention model for integrating homebound leaners. This is based on active and engaging learning approaches and is designed for application to a wide variety of long–term absence situations. The main pillar of the project is the so-called “Inclusive Hybrid Classroom”, a special blending of physical and digital learning spaces. By facilitating direct engagement in class activities, irrespective of the students’ actual location, this kind of classroom heightens the sense for everyone that the homebound student is actively present in the classroom

Gli obiettivi di apprendimento sono declinati, sempre più spesso, come competenze. L’Italia sconta, da questo punto di vista, un ritardo che viene da lontano e che ha portato a misconoscere, per troppo tempo, i risultati della ricerca educativa evidence based e della prospettiva student’s voice per orientare riforme, cambiamenti, visioni. Il contributo che offre la traduzione di questo volume consiste nel mettere a disposizione di tutti gli addetti ai lavori (insegnanti, formatori, studiosi, ricercatori, decisori politici) e di tutte le persone interessate una grande ricchezza di dati come quelli del Rapporto OCSE, introdotti e commentati con particolare attenzione alla situazione italiana. L’intenzione che guida questo lavoro è quella di fornire una fonte attendibile con la quale ribadire, ancora una volta, che spendere in ricerca e istruzione significa investire e che gli investimenti ben condotti, in questo campo, hanno ritorni significativi non soltanto dal punto di vista economico. L’equità delle opportunità in un tempo come quello presente appare l’unico vero antidoto alla crisi economica, di senso, di prospettive che attraversiamo. L’istruzione, la formazione e la ricerca possono costituire un “faro” che ci guidi verso un nuovo “noi”.

    Abstract: Dopo anni di dibattito sulla presenza degli studenti di cittadinanza non italiana nel sistema scolastico, i tempi sono maturi per aprire le prospettive di studio e di intervento della pedagogia interculturale anche al mondo accademico. Avanguardia dello stesso multiculturalismo, con una presenza straniera che da sempre l’ha strutturalmente segnata, seppur esigua al confronto con altri Paesi, l’università si trova oggi a rispondere a nuove sfide, che partono da una ridefinizione, quantitativa e qualitativa, della popolazione studentesca di cittadinanza non italiana: accanto alla figura più classica dello studente internazionale, che sceglie l’Italia come meta dei suoi studi e che vi arriva ponendo questo come suo obiettivo prioritario, si afferma oggi la presenza di quegli studenti, figli delle migrazioni, che si affacciano al mondo accademico dopo un’esperienza di scolarizzazione e di inserimento sociale non sempre semplice e lineare. Il volume, oltre a inquadrare gli scenari generali riferiti alla società e alla città multiculturale, all’internazionalizzazione degli studi, documenta un lavoro di ricerca pedagogica, con aperture anche alle scienze sociali e geografiche, svolto nell’Università dell’Aquila. L’indagine sul campo ha mirato a ricostruire i background, i percorsi accademici, i bisogni formativi, i problemi dell’inserimento sociale degli studenti internazionali e degli studenti stranieri scolarizzati in Italia, prestando particolare attenzione anche ai temi della socialità, della reciprocità, del pregiudizio e dell’inclusione anche in riferimento agli studenti italiani. La ricerca, ma anche l’azione: L’Aquila, una città universitaria ancora segnata dal sisma del 2009 e dall’alterazione dei rapporti sociali. Nel volume si riportano la descrizione e i principali risultati del progetto “Unidiversità” (FEI, annualità 2013, Azione 7, PROG-1059381), all’interno del quale si è puntato alla formazione di una nuova figura professionale, il tutore della convivenza, e alla sua implementazione in ambito accademico e urbano. Il libro si rivolge agli studiosi, agli amministratori, al mondo del volontariato e, naturalmente, agli studenti, per offrire un contributo tanto nell’ottica della conoscenza di una realtà ancora poco studiata, quanto come riferimento per la costruzione di buone prassi

    Abstract: Le supernovae e i gamma-ray burst, gli eventi più catastrofici che si verificano nell’Universo, sono oggetto di studio nei campi più dinamici della moderna ricerca astronomica. Dei secondi ancora non conosciamo con precisione i meccanismi che li innescano e tuttavia forti indizi suggeriscono che, come nelle supernovae, la causa scatenante sia il collasso esplosivo di stelle di grande massa. Nell’ultimo decennio, questi fenomeni sono diventati strumenti molto efficaci nello studio dell’origine e dell’evoluzione dell’Universo. I cosmologi li utilizzano come "fari" cosmici che illuminano i loro immediati dintorni e anche come sonde per ricostruire la dinamica dell’espansione dell’Universo. Grazie ad essi, oggi sappiamo che circa il 70% del contenuto di energia-materia dell’Universo è costituito di un’energia oscura la cui natura ci è ancora completamente ignota.     Abstract: "È dalla più remota antichità che l'uomo si interroga sulla struttura dell'Universo e sulle leggi che lo governano. Ma il progresso compiuto all'inizio del XX secolo non ha paragoni rispetto a quello di tutti i secoli precedenti: nel 1915 fu formulata la relatività generale, indispensabile per inquadrare tutti i fenomeni cosmici e astrofisici, tra il 1920 e il 1930 furono determinate le reali dimensioni dell'Universo visibile e fu scoperta la sua costante espansione. La cosmologia ha poi fatto un grande salto di qualità a cavallo tra la fine del XX secolo e l'inizio del XXI, quando una serie di osservazioni ha confermato che: L'Universo è spazialmente ""piatto"", in seguito all'inflazione cosmica che, una frazione di secondo dopo il Big Bang, ne ha gonfiato le dimensioni di decine o centinaia di miliardi di volte. L'Universo è costituito al 70% da energia oscura e al 24% da materia oscura: la materia visibile, cioè stelle e galassie, rappresenta solo il 6% del totale. Attualmente l'espansione dell'Universo è in una fase di nuova accelerazione. L'Universo inflazionario è una specula che forse rivela i misteri delle leggi fisiche a piccolissime distanze e altissime energie laddove dovrebbe trovarsi il regno delle superstringhe e della gravità quantistica. In questo libro viene ripercorsa la grande avventura del pensiero umano che dalla concezione aristotelica di un mondo statico eterno e in realtà piccolissimo è approdato alla contemporanea visione di un cosmo dinamico e immenso, germogliato però da una infinitesima fluttuazione quantistica."

    Abstract: Le economiche webcam stanno rivoluzionando l’imaging astronomico amatoriale, fornendo un’alternativa conveniente ai CCD raffreddati, quanto meno per i soggetti più luminosi. Le webcam, che costano solo poche decine di euro, sono in grado di realizzare riprese di più alta risoluzione rispetto alle macchine fotografiche digitali grazie alla maggiore velocità di scaricamento dell’immagine che "congela" i dettagli planetari, nonostante il disturbo della turbolenta atmosfera terrestre. La loro struttura è piuttosto semplice, ed è facile rimuovere la lente frontale per utilizzarle in proiezione dell’oculare con un telescopio astronomico. Le webcam si collegano direttamente a un PC, in modo tale che si può utilizzare un apposito software per sommare sequenze di immagini, ottenendo così un notevole miglioramento qualitativo dell’immagine finale. In questo libro, Martin Mobberley introduce l’astrofilo all’uso delle webcam e all’elaborazione digitale delle immagini, mentre fornisce suggerimenti dettagliati per la ripresa del Sole, della Luna e dei pianeti. Ogni oggetto, con le specifiche tecniche di ripresa ed elaborazione, viene trattato in un capitolo a sé. Attraverso le immagini di questo libro, l’astrofilo potrà rendersi conto di quanto si possa fare applicando una webcam al proprio telescopio!

    Abstract: Il gioco del Sudoku è esploso nel mondo occidentale a partire dal 2005 e da allora ha continuato a espandersi, a raccogliere nuovi proseliti, a far proliferare riviste specializzate nelle edicole e siti dedicati su Internet. Il successo del Sudoku non accenna a rallentare. Tutti i grandi quotidiani offrono giornalmente alcuni schemi da risolvere, sono nate associazioni e federazioni, vengono organizzati tornei locali, vari campionati nazionali e persino un campionato mondiale a cadenza annuale, si moltiplicano le proposte di varianti del Sudoku classico, moltissimi docenti universitari hanno avviato tesi di laurea sull’argomento, sono stati scritti svariati prodotti software su PC, su hardware dedicato e sulle principali console di giochi interattivi. Accanto alla moltitudine crescente di dilettanti che con varia frequenza si cimentano nel gioco, di solito lavorando con carta e penna e in solitario, è nata una comunità mondiale di esperti che, attraverso forum dedicati su Internet, cercano di scovare tecniche di soluzione sempre più sofisticate, oppure si accaniscono ad individuare e sviscerare i segreti logico-matematici del gioco, o più semplicemente si propongono di strutturare, organizzare e diffondere la conoscenza in materia. Questo libro si rivolge al primo gruppo di persone, ai dilettanti che vogliono continuare a giocare con carta e penna e che eventualmente vogliono diventare un po’ più esperti, e si propone di dare risposta a due quesiti principali: 1) come riuscire a risolvere in modo divertente qualsiasi schema, per quanto difficile, proposto dalle riviste specializzate, a partire da un numero limitato ma sufficiente di tecniche di base e avanzate, 2) come orientarsi nel variegato mondo degli esperti, dei forum, dei siti dedicati, dei prodotti software, senza perdere tempo inutile e potendo rapidamente trovare risposta a qualsiasi eventuale dubbio.

Molte delle informazioni codificate nella radiazione cosmica di fondo sono state impresse dal sovrapporsi di onde acustiche presenti nell’Universo primordiale: una "musica" del Big Bang, che i cosmologi hanno tentato per anni di ricostruire, usando tecniche analoghe a quelle che permettono di distinguere il suono di diversi strumenti musicali. Solo di recente le prime note di questa straordinaria sinfonia cosmica sono finalmente state svelate, ma l’indagine non è ancora finita. Questo libro illustra, con un linguaggio adatto anche al non specialista, le teorie, le osservazioni e le scoperte che hanno fatto entrare la cosmologia in una nuova era. Amedeo Balbi è ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Fisica dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata.     Abstract: In meno di due decenni l’astronomia amatoriale ha cambiato volto. Il motivo, naturalmente, è il progresso tecnologico.     Abstract: In contesto scolastico quello delle difficoltà in matematica è un fenomeno importante sia per la sua diffusione sia per le conseguenze che ha a vari livelli: dal disagio personale con cui viene vissuto da molti allievi, all'atteggiamento negativo che larghi strati della popolazione costruiscono verso la nostra disciplina, fino al calo di iscrizioni ai corsi di laurea scientifici. Di fronte a queste difficoltà, che spesso si manifestano in comportamenti quali la rinuncia a provare o il rispondere a caso, l'azione didattica finalizzata al recupero è in genere un'azione locale, che nasce dall'individuazione di errori per poi intervenire sulle conoscenze ritenute necessarie per rispondere correttamente. Ma questo tipo di intervento si rivela in genere fallimentare, e l'insegnante - insieme all'allievo - matura un senso di impotenza e di frustrazione. Il fatto è che questo approccio tende ad ignorare la varietà degli scopi che allievi diversi si possono porre davanti ad uno stesso compito, scopi non necessariamente interni alla matematica: per un intervento efficace è necessario allora spostare l'attenzione dagli errori che l'allievo commette all'allievo che li commette, alla ricerca dei motivi delle sue azioni.     Abstract: The transformations of our society place the onus on the teaching professions to acquire new skills to enable them to respond to the needs of a complex reality in constant evolution. This is why the Degree Course for Professional Educator has gone through ongoing radical changes over recent years, designed to synthesise the theoretical and practical dimensions. This book is aimed at recording such changes in the attempt to provide a snapshot of the youth universe through the discussion of data emerging from a questionnaire, and the analysis of various scholastic autobiographies written by the students themselves. The objective of the publication is to understand the backgrounds of our students, what are their relations with the school and with the teachers, what expectations they have in relation to the academic world and their future in professional and personal terms. The book is therefore aimed at secondary school teachers, at University teachers and at the educators themselves, as well as at all those who are engaged with young people and adolescence in various capacities
    Abstract: Le trasformazioni della nostra società pongono le professioni educative di fronte all'esigenza di acquisire nuove competenze che permettano di rispondere ai bisogni di una realtà complessa e in costante evoluzione. Per tale ragione il Corso di Laurea in Educatore Professionale in questi ultimi anni ha cambiato e sta cambiando volto, nell'intento di unire armonicamente in sé dimensione teorica e pratica. Il volume cerca appunto di dar conto di tali cambiamenti nel tentativo di fornire una fotografia di questo universo giovanile tramite la discussione dei dati emersi da un questionario e l'analisi di alcune autobiografie scolastiche scritte dagli studenti stessi. Obiettivo della pubblicazione: capire quale sia la realtà dalla quale i nostri iscritti provengono, quale il loro rapporto con la scuola e con i docenti, quali aspettative nutrano nei confronti del mondo accademico e del proprio futuro lavorativo e personale. Il testo si rivolge, dunque, agli insegnanti della scuola secondaria, ai docenti universitari, agli educatori stessi, nonché a tutti coloro che in veste diversa si occupano di adolescenza e di età giovanile
