    Abstract: Der Themenkreis des in Dharamsala, Indien, geführten Interviews (engl. und tibetisch) umfaßt allgemeine Probleme wie die Vereinbarkeit von westlicher Philosophie und Buddhismus und spezielle Fragen wie die nach der Bedeutung der Sangsöl-Zeremonie.
    Abstract: The Dalai Lama, the head of Tibetan Buddhism, answers to questions put by the German cameraman and film producer Hermann Schlenker in February 1972. Subjects of the conversation are such general problems as the compatibility of Buddhism and western philosophy and more specialized questions such as the significance of the bsans-gsol ceremony.

    Abstract: Nach vorbereitenden Opfern in dem Andachtsraum wirft ein junger Mann zwei Orakelhölzer, die dem Orakel erst ein positives (wie hier), negatives oder neutrales Vorzeichen verleihen. Dann wirft er aus einem zylindrischen Bambusbehälter ein beziffertes Bambusstäbchen heraus. Ein auf die Orakelinterpretation spezialisierter Mönch liest aus dem Losbüchlein den Text vor, der für das entsprechende Orakelstäbchen bestimmt ist.
    Abstract: The film shows a method of divination by drawing a lot in form of a numbered bamboo stick, shaken out of a cylindrical bamboo container filled with many similar sticks. In order to give a positive, negative, or neutral value to this oracle, the two halves of a split bamboo sprout-the "oracle chips" - are thrown like dice, their respective position specifying the oracle's answer. The final details of the answer can be read from a special interpretation booklet.

    Abstract: Ein religiöser Barde steht mit einem Zeremonialpfeil und einem Textbüchlein in den Händen vor 4 Rollbildern, die Heilige und Gottheiten darstellen, und erklärt sie seinen Zuhörern. Vor den Bildern hat er einen Altar aufgebaut. Die Zuhörer beteiligen sich an der Rezitation, beten Rosenkränze und drehen Gebetsmühlen. Als Opfer und Lohn wird Geld auf dem Altar niedergelegt.
    Abstract: The film shows the performance by a religious minstrel or bard (ma ni pa). The man wears a special red head-gear, holds a textbook and a staff-like ceremonial arrow in his hands. From time to time he lifts the right hand to his ear, a gesture symbolizing his spiritual inspiration. He axplains 4 paintings or Thanka, depicting saints and deities. In order to make the whole event more ceremonial, a small altar is set up in front of the Thanka, on which the pious lay people deposit small gifts of money for the ma ni pa. Moreover they turn their prayer-wheels, pray with rosaries in hand and utter mantras to add in this way to their personal merit which will hopefully result in a good rebirth.

    Abstract: Persiflage einer Orakelséance als lustiges und erheiterndes Zwischenstück während einer Lha-mo-Vorführung (Mirakelspiel) in Dharamsala, H. P., Indien.
    Abstract: We see the caricature of an oracle séance. It is meant as a funny interlude during the long performance of the play "Nangsa" staged by members of a Lha mo-group. The scene itself has no connection at all with the content of this play. The actors give nethertheless a very true picture of the actual happenings during a real oracle séance: the oraclepriest wears all the ritually prescribed ornates and accessoirs, accepts offerings and makes offerings, falls into trance, which means that the deity takes possession of the priest, and dictates during this trance the god's answers to a clumsy secretary. This situation bears a number of comic scenes which the public follows and enjoys with delight.
