    Abstract: Sportliches Handeln ist heute ein fester Bestandteil des kulturindustriellen Spektakels: ein wirkmächtiges Theater, in dem teils widersprüchliche gesellschaftliche Axiome zur Aufführung kommen. Philipp Ellrich nimmt die Geschichte(n) des Sports, in denen die sportliche Praxis selbst Erzählungen stiftet und be-deutend wird, aus literaturwissenschaftlicher sowie soziologischer Perspektive unter die Lupe. Den Doppelsinn des Begriffs der Handlung als Ausführung und als Aufführung mobilisierend, fragt er in exemplarischen Analysen von Sporttexten und Sportpraktiken nach dem literarischen Kern des Sports - und deckt so die Paradoxien eines unserer relevantesten Gesellschaftsphänomene auf.

    Abstract: Sport is changing unmistakably. Classic club sport with regular training times in spaces that are devoted to sport are becoming less attractive. Sport activities which are characterized by individual motivation, time and place (such as jogging or skateboarding), are enjoying a continual increase in numbers. How is sporting activity presently taking form in comparison to the classical Olympism of modernity? This book seeks to answer this question by examining the meaning of sport in French society and the construction of local, national and, increasingly, global identities through sport. It begins by reassessing modern sport’s emergence and consolidation in France in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and then traces developments from the Second World War to the present, reflecting on the current status and future role of French sport. Horse racing, cycling, tennis, adventure sports, rugby and football, as well as the role of the Olympic Games, are discussed. The author investigates the interaction of these mass and elite physical practices with a wide variety of sporting locations – spatial and temporal, concrete and imagined – and in a rich field of representations, including literature and the fine arts, the press, cinema, radio, television and digital media. Regalado, Richard Santillan, and Maureen Smith This anthology explores the intersection of race, ethnicity, and sports and analyzes the forces that shaped the African American and Latino sports experience in post-World War II America. Contributors reveal that sports often reinforced dominant ideas about race and racial supremacy but that at other times sports became a platform for addressing racial and social injustices. The African American sports experience represented the continuation of the ideas of Black Nationalism--racial solidarity, black empowerment, and a determination to fight against white racism. Three of the essayists discuss the protest at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. In football, baseball, basketball, boxing, and track and field, African American athletes moved toward a position of group strength, establishing their own values and simultaneously rejecting the cultural norms of whites. Among Latinos, athletic achievement inspired community celebrations and became a way to express pride in ethnic and religious heritages as well as a diversion from the work week. Sports was a means by which leadership and survival tactics were developed and used in the political arena and in the fight for justice.Michael E. Lomax is associate professor of health and sport studies at the University of Iowa and the author of Black Baseball Entrepreneurs, 1860-1901: Operating by Any Means Necessary.Kenneth L. Doch oft ist die Sportpraxis gekennzeichnet durch Mißverständnisse, Konflikte, sogar durch Gewaltausbrüche. Interkulturelle Begegnungen im Sport können Fremdheitserfahrungen hervorrufen. Hier zeigt sich, daß sie neben der kognitiven und affektiven eine starke körperliche Dimension haben. Körperliche Fremdheit kann für die Individuen auch in nicht-sportlichen Kontexten zu einem schwer zu bewältigenden Problem werden.
