    Abstract: Much has been written about a model of leadership that emphasizes women's values and experiences, that is in some ways distinct from male models of leadership. This book redirects the focus to a view of leadership as a multicultural phenomenon that moves beyond dualistic notions of "masculine" and "feminine" leadership, and focuses more specifically on leadership as the management of meaning, including the meanings of the notion of "organizational leader." This volume focuses on leadership "traditions" revealed in the history of Black women in America and exemplified in the leadership approaches of 15 African American women executives who came of age during the civil rights and feminist movements of the 1960's and 1970's and climbed to the top of major U.S. organizations. It advances a vision of organizational leadership that challenges traditional masculine and feminine notions of leadership development and practice, providing insights on organizational leadership in the era of post-industrialization and globalization. Additionally, by placing African American women at the center of analysis, this book provides insights into the ways in which race and gender structure key leadership processes in today's diverse and changing workplace.     Abstract: Die Familienpolitik ist ein spätes Kind des deutschen Sozialstaats. Sie etablierte sich vor dem Hintergrund tief greifender gesellschaftlicher Umbrüche. Der kriegsbedingte Männermangel und der "Scheidungsboom" wurden nach 1945 als Zeichen der Auflösung traditioneller Familienformen gedeutet; später verwiesen Schlagworte wie "Pillenknick" und "sexuelle Revolution" auf einen weit reichenden Wertewandel in Familienfragen. Wie die Familienpolitik auf solche Herausforderungen reagierte, zeigt die Studie im Blick auf drei zentrale Konfliktfelder: den finanziellen Familienlastenausgleich, die Sexualaufklärung und Familienberatung sowie die Vorschulerziehung in Kindergärten. Während der Familienlastenausgleich auf Bundesebene zwischen 1965 und 1975 stagnierte, ist in den beiden anderen Bereichen ein Aufbruch zu beobachten, der in erster Linie von den Bundesländern getragen wurde. Dies wird am Beispiel Bayerns dargestellt. So kombiniert die Studie zwei große Themenkreise: Sie zeigt, wie die Familienpolitik zu einem eigenständigen Politikfeld mit vielfältigen Querschnittsaufgaben wurde, und sie lenkt das Augenmerk auf den Föderalismus als eine charakteristische Funktionsbedingung des deutschen Sozialstaates.

Der Begriff 'Völkerpsychologie' ist zu verstehen als 'Psychologie der geistigen Verhältnisse' innerhalb und zwischen Völkern, was bereits von den Zeitgenossen mit 'Sozialpsychologie' oder 'Kulturphilosophie' gleichgesetzt bzw. übersetzt wurde. Wie und unter welchen Bedingungen gelingt resp. mißlingt die Aneignung von Kultur - eigener und fremder? In welcher Stellung steht das Individuum zur Gesamtheit resp. zu den vielfältigen Artefakten der umgebenden kulturellen Verhältnisse, d.h. zu Sprache und Wissenschaft, materieller Kultur und Institutionen, zu Formen der Geselligkeit und des Umganges? Mit diesen Fragen umriß und projektierte Lazarus eine heute wieder höchst aktuelle 'Kulturwissenschaft', die nicht mehr einseitig nur nach der Genese oder Geschichte der kulturellen Gegebenheiten und Probleme fragt, sondern vor allem den Funktionsweisen von Kultur und sozialen Formen nachspürt. Deshalb war und wurde er zum Lehrer oder Anreger von Georg Simmels Soziologie der Formen der Vergesellschaftung und seiner Theorie der Tragödie der Kultur, an die wiederum Ernst Cassirer und viele andere anknüpften, aber auch von Wilhelm Diltheys Aufbau der geschichtlichen Welt in den Geisteswissenschaften und nachfolgenden Theorien des 'objektiven Geistes' bis hin zu Hans Freyer.   Reihe Philosophische Bibliothek - Band 551.

The main finding is that electoral institutions have systematic effects on the formation of representative structures. 'Party-enabling' aspects of electoral laws such as list proportional representation tend to foster popular inclusion in politics and institutionalized party systems, whereas 'politician-enabling' rules such as single-member districts and ballots that allow voters to select individuals often favour the development of weakly structured systems and high levels of popular exclusion from the representative process

    Abstract: From 1900 until the early 1920s, an unusual community existed in America's heartland-Buxton, Iowa. Originally established by the Consolidation Coal Company, Buxton was the largest unincorporated coal mining community in Iowa. What made Buxton unique, however, is the fact that the majority of its 5,000 residents were African Americans-a highly unusual racial composition for a state which was over 90 percent white. At a time when both southern and northern blacks were disadvantaged and oppressed, blacks in Buxton enjoyed true racial integration-steady employment, above-average wages, decent housing, and minimal discrimination. For such reasons, Buxton was commonly known as "the black man's utopia in Iowa.".
