    Note: 1. 1 Rekonstruktion narrativer Identität: Eine neue Sicht auf das narrative Interview In den letzten 15 Jahren ist das "narrative Interview" zur bevorzugten Methode von biografisch orientierten und an subjektiven Erfahrungswelten interessierten Forscherinnen und Forschern geworden. Im Rahmen des interpretativen Paradigmas hat es sich für eine Vielfalt von Fragestellungen und mit ganz unterschiedlichen Gruppen von Informanten bewährt. Worin begründet sich die Beliebtheit des Verfahrens in der Forschungslandschaft? Zum einen besticht sicherlich die Möglichkeit, die alltagspraktisch relevante und allgegenwärtige Kommunikationsform des Erzählens als eine (scheinbar) einfache, relativ voraussetzungslose und technisch unkomplizierte Methode der Datenerhebung zu nutzen. Die Aufforderung zum Erzählen scheint unmittelbar in das Zentrum der subjektiven Erfahrungen und Sichtweisen unserer Probanden zu führen und sie auch kaum vor Schwierigkeiten der Vermittlung zu stellen - schließlich können wir davon ausgehen, dass in unserer Kultur jeder mehr oder weniger ausführlich erzählen kann, "wie alles gekommen ist". Das narrative Interview eröffnet den Zugang zur biografischen Selbstdeutung der Befragten, indem es ihnen ausgezeichnete Möglichkeiten des Ausdrucks und der Setzung ihrer persönlichen Relevanzen gibt. Damit befriedigt es auch die Forscherio in ihrem eigenen Bedürfnis nach einer gelungenen Kommunikation und Teilhabe an anderen Lebenswelten. Kurzum, das narrative Interview bietet beste Voraussetzungen, um den methodischen wie den ethischen Standards qualitativer Sozialforschung gerecht zu werden. Die Vielfalt der Forschungsinteressen, für die das narrative Interview mittlerweile eingesetzt wird, können nicht mit einem einzigen, allen Zwecken gleicher Maßen angemessenen Auswertungsverfahren erfasst werden

    Abstract: Die Medien repräsentieren den älteren türkischen Migranten oft als traditionalistischen "Islam-Macho", der die Integration seiner Frau und seiner Töchter in die Gastgesellschaft bremst oder aktiv behindert. Diese weit verbreitete Stereotype beruht überwiegend auf "Bildern aus zweiter Hand". Im Unterschied dazu rückt die Publikation von Margret Spohn die türkischen Männer der ersten Migrantengeneration explizit in den Mittelpunkt der Analysen, wo sie als "Experten ihrer eigenen Geschichte" ausführlich selbst zu Wort kommen. Das feine Geflecht der hier erzählten und sensibel interpretierten Lebensgeschichten gibt Raum für die Reflexionen der Befragten über ihr Verhältnis zu den eigenen Eltern, zur Ehefrau, zu den Kindern und zu ihrem Leben in "zwei Heimaten". Damit liefert die Arbeit einen Schlüssel zu einem besseren Verständnis der Männer dieser Migrantengeneration, die vor fast einem halben Jahrhundert das Wagnis auf sich genommen haben, sich und ihren Familien in einem fremden Land eine Zukunft aufzubauen

    Abstract: The path adolescents take from childhood to adulthood is a product of social, economic, political, and technological forces. These forces may facilitate youth's preparation to become healthy adults, or they may leave youth unprepared for adulthood. Knowledgeable projections are vital in shaping the agenda for research; for alerting educators, policy makers, and practitioners to new issues; and for formulating thoughtful responses to emerging dilemmas. This book focuses upon the future of adolescence in postindustrial societies. The authors identify some ominous societal changes that will affect youth: unstable job markets, competition for public resources due to an aging population, and widening income gaps between 'information workers' and low-skill workers. But they also observe opportunities created by information technology, innovations in health service delivery and criminal-justice rehabilitation, and the resourcefulness of a new generation. This volume examines these and other macro-structural changes that will impact adolescents' lives and their futures as adults

    Note: Die Forschung zur Gewalt in modernen westlichen Gesellschaften hat in den letzten Jahren zugenommen. Die Erklärungen dafür sind zahlreich: tatsächlicher Anstieg bei bestimmten Gewaltvarianten, neue Sensibilitäten, Rückkehr alter Gewaltformen, Verlagerung von Gewalt in andere gesellschaftliche Bereiche etc. Bisher fehlte jedoch ein systematischer Überblick über die tatsächlichen Befunde. Das "Internationale Handbuch der Gewaltforschung" füllt diese Lücke. Es stellt die langfristigen Entwicklungen umfassend dar, berücksichtigt aber auch ganz aktuelle Ereignisse. Insgesamt dominiert dabei der soziologische Schwerpunkt: Gewalt als soziales Phänomen. Entsprechend sind die Artikel gruppiert nach sozialstrukturellen Verhältnissen und Gewalt, Sozialisation und Lernen von Gewalt, Gewalterfahrungen und Gewalttätigkeiten etc. Ge-waltopfer werden ebenso thematisiert wie die Gewalt in gesellschaftlichen Institutionen, im öffentlichen Raum, durch politische Gruppen oder in bezie-hungsweise durch staatliche Institutionen. Thematisiert werden auch die jeweiligen Gewaltdiskurse, Rechtfertigungen und Verarbeitungen, mithin die ganze Prozessdynamik. Die 62 Artikel von Autorinnen und Autoren aus zehn Ländern liefern aber auch Analysen mit sozialpsychologischen, kulturwis-senschaftlichen, rechtswissenschaftlichen, politikwissenschaftlichen und historischen Hintergründen sowie soziobiologischer und psychologischer Herkunft.     Abstract: In this volume, gender is seen as a communicative achievement and as a social category interacting with other social parametres such as age, status, prestige, institutional and ethnic frameworks, cultural and situative contexts.     Abstract: This work presents Sapir's most comprehensive statement on the concepts of culture, on method and theory in anthropology and other social sciences, on personality organization, and on the individual's place in culture and society. Extensive discussions on the role of language and other symbolic systems in culture, ethnographic method, and social interaction are also included. Ethnographic and linguistic examples are drawn from Sapir's fieldwork among native North Americans and from European and American society as well. Edward Sapir (1884-1939), one of this century's leading figures in American anthropology and linguistics, planned to publish a major theoretical state - ment on culture and psychology. He developed his ideas in a course of lectures presented at Yale University in the 1930s, which attracted a wide audience from many social science disciplines. Unfortunately, he died before the book he had contracted to publish could be realized. Like de Saussure's Cours de Linguistique Générale before it, this work has been reconstructed from student notes, in this case twentytwo sets, as well as from Sapir's manuscript materials. Judith Irvine's meticulous reconstruction makes Sapir's compelling ideas - of surprisingly contemporary resonance - available for the first time.
