Abstract: A growing interest in myth over the last decades has brought to the fore the main mythographical manual that has came down to us from Antiquity: Apollodorus’ Bibliotheca. A number of recent editions shows this trend, like the commented translations of Carrière & Massonie (1991) and Scarpi & Ciani (1996), the translations of Guidorizzi (1995), Brodersen (2004), Dräger (2005) and Smith & Trzaskoma (2007) or the critical text by Papathomopoulos (2010). The publication of the first two volumes (2010 and 2012) of Cuartero’s massive critical and commented bilingual edition for the Fundació Bernat Metge series seemed the occasion to address this text from innovative scholarly perspectives. The origins of the present volume lay in a colloquium held at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013. Despite its crucial interest for the scientific study of ancient myth, no conference devoted to this engaging text was held prior to that one. And, to this date, no monographic volume on Apollodorus’ mythology exists either. To cover a broader scope of analysis, three further papers have been commissioned to other specialists. This collection of essays is meant to be a homage to Francesc J. Cuartero

Abstract: "The disposition of the humanities formed in the age of modernity has come under scrutiny. Pushed by digitization, globalization, and new concepts for the study of culture, the humanities were forced to reorient themselves. Abstract: Modernization and digital globalization have proven to mark major thresholds where paradigmatic shifts and realignments take place. This volume aims to capture the reconfiguration of humanistic study between the forces of global integration and cultural diversification from a full range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences. The key issue is discussed in three major parts. The first chapter examines transnational interpolations of the humanities as potential indicator for a globalizing humanistic research. The second chapter deals with humanistic revisions of modernity with and against globality. The third chapter discusses the ambiguous constitution of cultural diversity as a complement and counter-movement to global integration, ideologically moving between social cohesion and exclusion. The final chapter outlines what the threshold-crossing from modern to global humanities will mean for the future of humanistic research. The multidisciplinary study of culture within the history of the humanities documents and reflects the mobility and migration of its concepts and methods, moving and translating between disciplines, research traditions, historical periods, academic institutions, and the public sphere.

Abstract: "Research on human sexuality enjoyed a boom around 1900. Beyond the boundaries of science, a widespread social debate arose about the new discoveries and their potential social, moral, and political implications. This anthology examines the interactions between science, society, and art and offers historical-critical readings for a broad range of representations of sexual pathology." --

Catastrophic events and predictions have spurred new interest in re-examining the history of earlier disasters and the social and conceptual resources they have mobilized. The essays gathered in this volume reconsider the history and theory of different catastrophes and their aftermath

Abstract: What does it mean to be authentic? How is authenticity indexed in contexts of language expression? Authenticity is considered a driving force of individuals’ behaviour and is evaluated according to cultural contexts and mediated by and expressed in language. This volume examines the meanings of linguistic authenticity and problematises the authentic speaker as reflecting a complex and dynamic deployment of sociolinguistic and pragmatic resources. Véronique Lacoste and Jakob Leimgruber, University of Freiburg, Germany; Thiemo Breyer, University of Cologne, Germany.
Abstract: The concept of authenticity has received some attention in recent academic discourse, yet it has often been left under-defined from a sociolinguistic perspective. This volume presents the contributions of a wide range of scholars who exchanged their views on the topic at a conference in Freiburg, Germany, in November 2011. The authors address three leading questions: What are the local meanings of authenticity embedded in large cultural and social structures? What is the meaning of linguistic authenticity in delocalised and/or deterritorialised settings? How is authenticity indexed in other contexts of language expression (e.g. in writing or in political discourse)? These questions are tackled by recognised experts in the fields of sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, and contact linguistics. While by no means exhaustive, the volume offers a large array of case studies that contribute significantly to our understanding of the meaning of authenticity in language production and perception.

Abstract: The essays collected in this volume highlight the narrative as a phenomenon inherent in human nature. They examine the likely purpose of artistic and literary expression and its contribution to survival in an early human environment. They also consider the developing interest in shaping experience through the narrative, and investigate the consequent significance of traits acquired throughout the ages for the production and reception of texts. In doing so, the book provides a highly diverse overview of the latest research and debates in this innovative field of research

Abstract: Main description: The triumphant arrival of the Ottoman Turks before the gates of Vienna generated a spate of widely variegated writings almost too manifold to be surveyed from a present-day viewpoint and encompassing all the material resources of communication available at the time. As such this body of writing may be legitimately regarded as a transnational paradigm of early modern public communication. The studies in this volume present the results of a colloquium organized by the Wolfenbüttel Research Group on the Renaissance and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. They are interdisciplinary in nature and international in their perspective and examine both the actors involved in the confrontation between Turks and Europeans and the authors, styles, problems, lines of tradition and reception modalities identifiable in the literature it generated.
