    Kurzfassung: Aus Schilfrohren baut ein Angas-Mann eine floßförmige Zither. Die Arbeitsvorgänge sind das Abspleißen der Saiten aus Rohr, das Einbinden des Instrumentenkörpers, das Einfügen der Holzstege, die Stimmung der Saiten und das Anfertigen des Resonanzkörpers. Als Hilfsmaterial dienen Bast, andere Pflanzenfasern und Palmblätter. Nach Fertigstellung probiert der Erbauer seine Zither aus.
    Kurzfassung: An Angas man in the village of Langshi constructs a raft-zither from reed sticks, bast, vegetable fiber, and palm leaves. Excerpts are shown of each step in the production, including the tuning of the strings.

Ein Bootsrand aus Papyrus wird auf dem Rumpf festgebunden, und im Wasser werden zusätzliche Seitenverstärkungen aus Papyrus angebracht, um dem Transportboot mehr Stabilität zu verleihen.

    Kurzfassung: In der Weihnachtszeit führt die Kreolenbevölkerung ein Hirtenspiel auf dem Kirchplatz auf. Mit bunten Bändern geschmückte Männer, teilweise als Frauen verkleidet, tanzen dabei vor der Figur des Christkindes zur Begleitung von Gitarre, Stabreibtrommel, Schraper und Gefäßflöte.
    Kurzfassung: The film shows the dance of the shepherds in honour of Jesus' birth. The performance takes place in front of the church in Mariara (Carabobo) during Christmas time. Criollo men, adorned with colourful ribbons and partly dressed as women, dance to the sound of a guitar, a friction drum, a scraper and a globular flute.

    Kurzfassung: Es stehen sich zwei Reihen von je sieben Kämpfenden gegenüber, die sich paarweise mittels hoher, rechteckiger Schilde gegenseitig von der Stelle und zu Boden zu drücken suchen. Stürzt ein Kämpfer zu Boden, wird er von Frauen umtanzt und der Kampf wird unterbrochen.
    Kurzfassung: The film shows part of a warrau shield-fight. On an open place two rows of men armed with high rectangular shields are facing each other with the intention to knock each other on the floor with the shields. As soon as the first man lies on the ground the others stop fighting and women come to dance around the loser. After having knocked him down again, the winner choses an other man. The fight ends when both are lying on the ground, while women are surrounding them by dancing.

    Kurzfassung: Männer und Frauen ernten Mais. Zwei Männer schnitzen an Bambusflöten, schaben an Hirschschädeln und sengen sie ab. Alle steigen bergab zu einer Wassergrotte, wo sie untergefaßt einen Rundtanz tanzen, begleitet von Tura-Bambusflöten, Rasseln und Hirschschädeln.
    Kurzfassung: After harvesting maize in a field Ayaman men and women go the maize cobs to a house in front of which they place them into a heap. Then they watch two men finnishing bamboo flutes (turas) and instrumments out of deer skulls which are blown through the occipital hole (cachos). Later they all go together to a spring taking the instruments with them. At the entrance of a small cave they begin to dance, move then to a better, even ground wehere they continue dancing and where a young woman with a crown has joined them.

    Kurzfassung: Eine Gruppe Heimatvertriebener aus dem Böhmerwald führt im Studio des IWF zum Dokumentationszweck den Schwerttanz vor, der aus zwei Teilen (Walzer und Marsch) besteht. In beiden Teilen werden die folgenden Figuren getanzt: Schwertbrücke, Schwertschwelle, Paschen.
    Kurzfassung: A group of refugees from Bohemian Foerst performs in a studio the sword dance of the Bohemian Forest. The dance consists of two parts: The sword bridge, the sword thershold, and the so-called "Paschen". The dance is shown twice, the first time in full view without change of camera angle, the second with respective camera shots of the various steps and movements.

    Kurzfassung: Im Rahmen eines Initiationsvorganges unterziehen sich junge Bororo-Fulbe dem Scharo (Soro). Dabei werden sie von einem Altersgenossen mit einem Stock auf den Oberkörper geschlagen. Nach den ertragenen Schlägen bezeugen die umstehenden Mädchen und Angehörigen ihre Sympathie. Abschließend tanzen die Mädchen den Hirde-Tanz, bei dem sich die gezüchtigten Jünglinge dazugesellen.
    Kurzfassung: Young boys and girls of marriageable age have gathered for this festival of the nomadic Fulbe tribe. The boys must endure hard blows to the chest with long sticks without flinching as a test of courage. A dance is held after the test.

Einen Tag später treffen Leute aus dem Heimatdorf des Verstorbenen ein und nehmen an den Feierlichkeiten teil. Am vierten Tag werden weitere Tänze aufgeführt. Zum Abschluß werden Opfergaben zum Gehöft des Verstorbenen getragen, und ein Widder wird rituell geschlachtet.

    Kurzfassung: Ein langer, breiter, sechssträngiger Zopf aus getrockneten Binsen (Scirpus lacustris) wird in der Mitte umgebogen, und beide Enden werden gemeinsam spiralig zu einem runden, flachzylindrischen Schemel zusammengerollt. Zum Schluß werden die Kanten der Bänder von außen nach innen zusammengenäht.

    Kurzfassung: At the time of the maize harvest the Ayaman are celebrating the great Tura together with the mestizo population. The feast lasts several days and takes sugar cane stalks. At the dance participate the master of the ceremony, the leaders of local groups with their hunters, assistants and musicians who are playing on their instruments (tura-bamboo-flutes, deer-skulls and rattles).

Sie dürfen sich wieder waschen, rasieren, Haare schneiden, kämmen und gute Nahrung zu sich nehmen. Nach Durchführen von Reinigungsriten wird der Witwer in einen Yamsstapel eingepackt, um aus ihm als Neugeborener zu entsteigen.
    Kurzfassung: The widower Talogihi and his relatives celebrate the ending of the mourning period. Restrictions or taboos that were placed on him since his wife's death are now being lifted; he was forbidden to wash, cut or comb his hair, shave, and be given good food. The women who had worn long aprons are now permitted to shorten them. Talogihi finally goes through a ritual symbolizing his rebirth without mourning restrictions into society.

    Kurzfassung: The film shows the performance of the Überlingen sword dance in 1962. It begins with the morning breakfast of the colour-comppany and of the "Hänsele". After forming up the colour-copmany and the rest of the companies march to divine service and then to the town hall square. After the burgomaster has given his approval the dance is performed. The sword dance is followed by a maidens' dance. A second performance of the sworrd dance was filmed once again.

    Kurzfassung: Vor den zu verrichtenden Opfern wird das Orakel befragt. Nach Ankündigung der Opfer durch eine Trompete werden am Margai-Altar Hühner und Hirsebier geopfert. Das restliche Bier wird von den Anwesenden getrunken. Eine andere Opferhandlung zeigt einen Margai-Priester, der ein Bieropfer darbringt. Die Margai (Naturgeister) werden durch weibliche Medien befragt, die sich in tranceartigem Zustand befinden.
    Kurzfassung: Shows scenes of a sacrifice at a Margai altar. An old man blasts a sacred trumpet in order to announce the ceremony, while women brew the millet beer necessary for the proceedings. A father and two grown sons pray at the altar, then sacrifice chickens. The containers on the altar are filled with the millet beer; the rest of the beverage is drunk by the men in attendance, and the priest performs a beer offering.

    Kurzfassung: The film shows the building of a wagon with ladders in the southern part of Lower Austria: At first the wheelwrights make all the wooden parts (wheels, undercarriage, body and ladders) and put them together temporary; then the blacksmith fits the necessary iron parts and metal fittings (axles, tyres, brake etc.).

    Kurzfassung: Nach Beschaffung von Bauholz und Kokospalmblättern im Busch für das Dach errichten mehrere Männer auf dem Siedlungsplatz in Gemeinschaftsarbeit eine 2,6 m lange, 1,75 m breite und 2 m hohe Erdofenhütte. Am zweiten Tag wird ein Erdofen für das abschließende gemeinsame Mahl angelegt.
    Kurzfassung: Wood is cut in order to be used in the construction of a simple earthoven hut done in the old style. A native uses climbing cords and standing wood for assistance in cutting leaves from a coconut palm tree; the leaves are plaited into a roof covering. On the second work day the hut is finished and plans are made for the earthoven.

    Kurzfassung: Nach Trauertänzen vor dem Gehöft der Verstorbenen wird die Leiche zum ausgehobenen Grab gebracht und bestattet. Das Grab wird verschlossen, und ein Tonkrug ohne Boden wird daraufgesetzt. Von der Leiche führt ein Seil nach oben durch den Krug, womit durch ein entsprechendes Zeichen der Geister die Todesursache geklärt werden soll.
    Kurzfassung: Shows the mourning dance in front of the deceased's house. The body is carried to the grave followed by crying women who do not go along to the burial place. A clay pitcher is set upon the grave with the deceased's pipe placed in its handle.

    Kurzfassung: In einer Bauernstube in Mardorf sitzen drei Mädchen und versehen ungefärbte Eier mit geometrischen und pflanzlichen Ornamenten sowie mit Sprüchen. Zum Verzieren verwenden sie flüssiges Bienenwachs und Schreibfedern. Die Eier werden in heiße Farbbrühe getaucht. Anschließend wird das Wachs mit einem weichen Tuch abgerieben. Die Ornamente erscheinen weiß auf farbigem Grund.
    Kurzfassung: In a farmhouse in Mardorf three girls decorate eggs with geometric or plant ornaments and with sayings using liquid beeswax and pens. The eggs are dipped into hot dye. Afterwards the wax is rubbed off with a smooth cloth. The ornaments occur white on a coloured ground.

Das 9,95 m lange, 7,25 m breite und 5,35 m hohe, aus Holz erbaute und mit Pandanusblättern bedeckte Haus dient als Familienschlafhaus.
    Kurzfassung: Gives a complete overview of the 19 working days needed to build a sleeping house on Niutao. The work is initiated by the master house builder who supervises the construction. The structure is a four-post house of rectangular design which has a large gabled roof and a straight ridge. Timber is cut from the surrounding bush; individual pieces are tied together with coconut-fiber cord. The roof is made up of treated pandanus leaves.

    Kurzfassung: Mädchen flechten einen Korb aus einem frischen Kokospalmblatt und füllen ihn mit Düngeblättern. Ein alter Mann erntet eine Pulakaknolle und pflanzt ihren Stengel in die entstandene Grube, nachdem er die Blätter als Gründüngung in das Loch gelegt hat. Anschließend pflegt er ältere Pulaka, indem er Haltestäbe in den Boden steckt, diese mit geflochtenen Ringen zusammenhält und Gründüngung dazugibt.
    Kurzfassung: Specially cultivated taro pits are used to grow a crude variety of dry taro (pulaka) on the coral island of Niutao. Typical cultivation work is shown here: girls collect leaves for the foundation; an old man harvests a pulaka tuber and plants the resulting stalks; and a one-year-old plant is treated with soil and fertilizing leaves.

    Kurzfassung: This film shows parts of dances performed during the celebrations held when the young boys reach adolescene. Apart from the dance movements, we are shown the typical, rich clothing and body adornments. The marriageable girls also take part in the dancing, the musical accompaniment for which is provided by a flute, metal leg-rattles, and individual finger-bells.

    Kurzfassung: Große Auslegerboote, die mit Angelruten und typischen Perlmutthaken für den Bonitofang ausgerüstet sind, fahren mit mehreren Männern an Bord aufs Meer hinaus. Die Haken werden hinter dem Boot hergezogen. Die gefangenen Bonitos werden von dem achtern sitzenden Fischfangmeister mit einem Schwung eingeholt.
    Kurzfassung: Large outrigger boats equipped with poles and typical mother-of-pearl hooks take to the sea in order to catch bonitos. Flocks of sea birds indicate the presence of the fish. As the boat moves quickly across the surface the hooks are pulled along in the water. As soon as a fish swallows a hook a master fisherman uses a pole to haul the bonito into the boat.

    Kurzfassung: Zwei Kinder unterhalten sich, indem sie Löcher in den Sandboden scharren, diese Löcher wieder zuwerfen, wobei in eines der Löcher unbemerkt ein kleiner Fruchtkern mitgeworfen wird. Der Gegenspieler muß den Kern finden, sonst wird ihm ein Loch gelöscht. Findet er ihn, so darf er den Kern seinerseits verstecken. Es gewinnt, wer dem Gegenspieler alle Löcher auslöschen kann.
    Kurzfassung: Two children make a number of holes in the ground; filling up the holes, one of the children hides in one of the holes a small fruit kernel. The opponent how has to find the kernel, otherwise he has to give up one of his holes. If he has found the kernel, it is his turn to hide it. The one is the looser who has lost all his holes.

    Kurzfassung: Eine Frau schält die Knollen, schneidet sie in Stücke und stopft sie in Kokosnußschalen. Dazu gibt sie die Milch von gepreßtem Kokossamenfleisch und deckt sie zu. Dann bereitet sie einen Erdofen. Nach dem Dünsten werden die Behälter zerschlagen.
    Kurzfassung: A woman shells pulaka tubers (a variety of dry taro) with a small axe and cuts them into pieces. Coconut shells are filled with the pulaka pieces and a mixture of coconut meat and milk. An earth oven is prepared in order to steam several of these "containers."

    Kurzfassung: Der Bootsbaumeister und seine Leute bauen in 8tägiger Arbeit aus dem Stamm von Hernandia peltata ein 8,32 m langes Auslegerboot: Baumfällen; Ausschlagen, Zusammensetzen und -binden der einzelnen Teile. Nach einem Festmahl wird das fertiggestellte, brandungstüchtige Paddelboot auf dem offenen Meer erprobt.
    Kurzfassung: Shows all of the important phases of construction as a master boat builder and his people build an outrigger boat in the old style of Niutao. Trees are felled and individual parts are cut out of them - the hull, bow and stern pieces, planks, outrigger, etc. Precision and the assembly process are done and coconut-fiber cord is used to connect the pieces. After eight working days the craft is finished; a feast is held, and the boat is tested in the open sea.

    Kurzfassung: Während des Ratha-Jatra-Festes wird das Abbild des Gottes Jaganath aus seinem Tempel in Puri in einem großen, mit Blumen, Tüchern und Bildwerken geschmückten Tempelwagen von gläubigen Hindus um den Tempelbezirk gezogen. Ausschnitte vom Verladen des Götterbildes in den Tempelwagen und von seinem feierlichen Umzug.
    Kurzfassung: During the Ratha Jatra festival the god Jaganath leaves his temple at Puri, to be pulled by devout Hindus round the temple confines in a great temple-car, which is decorated with flowers, drapes and sculptures. The film shows extracts of the image of the god loaded onto the temple-car and of the solemn procession.
