Und kehren mit aller Macht zurück: Überraschenderweise begegnen wir ihnen heute nicht nur beim Rave oder bei schamanistischen Ritualen, sondern auch in Yogaklassen, Achtsamkeitsseminaren und Workshops, die die Leistungsfähigkeit im Job verbessern sollen. Und nicht zuletzt zeigt sich der neue Boom der Ekstatik in Krisenphänomenen wie einer martialischen Männlichkeit, in Massenbewegungen wie dem gewaltsamen Sturm aufs Kapitol in Washington oder den Protesten gegen die Coronamaßnahmen.     Kurzfassung: Verlagsinfo: Dieser Band will mit dem Begriff des 'Postmigrant Turn' eine Debatte anstoßen: Wie kann die postmigrantische Perspektive für kulturwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen als Analysekategorie nutzbar gemacht werden? Die Argumentation für eine postmigrantische Theoriewende soll der Steigerung von Sichtbarkeit marginalisierter künstlerischer Praktiken und Stimmen zuarbeiten und - an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft - kritische wie produktive Diskussionen rund um das Themenfeld Postmigration anstoßen. Deshalb sollen auch solche Stimmen zu Wort kommen, die sich außerhalb des Universitären mit der Bezeichnung 'postmigrantisch' identifizieren und die noch stärker in akademische Diskurse Eingang finden sollten. Ähnlich der postkolonialen Perspektive wird die postmigrantische Linse zur Betrachtung gesellschaftlicher (Macht-)Strukturen herangezogen. Aus der Position der Critical-Whiteness-Forschung geht es ferner darum, einen Beitrag zur (An-)Erkennung von strukturellem und institutionellem Rassismus zu leisten und Diskurshoheiten einer weißen Dominanzgesellschaft zu hinterfragen. Interessanterweise bedienen sich in den letzten Jahren immer häufiger Autor*innen, Künstler*innen, Schreibkollektive und Theater des Terminus der Postmigration, teilweise wird er als Selbstbeschreibung und Kampfbegriff mit selbstermächtigendem Potenzial verwendet. Postmigration als Label eines weiß-dominierten Buchmarktes oder als aktivistische Selbstpositionierung - eine umfassende Theoretisierung wie kritische Reflexion der Verwendung des Begriffs ist die Aufgabe einer engagierten Kulturwissenschaft zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die zentralen Fragen des Bandes lauten: Was bedeutet ein Postmigrant Turn? Welche Gegenstände nimmt er in den Fokus? Welche Analysemerkmale hält er bereit? Die beispielhaften Untersuchungen des Bandes dienen dazu, einen Perspektivwechsel und eine Diskursverschiebung aufzuzeigen, und argumentieren dafür, Postmigration als kulturwissenschaftliche Analysekategorie zu etablieren.

    Kurzfassung: "Politeness and impoliteness are not just expressed by words. People communicate polite and impolite attitudes towards each other through their intonation, tone of voice, their facial expressions, their gestures, the positioning of their bodies towards each other, and so on. This volume brings together eleven empirical studies that investigate these various modalities of im/politeness across signed, spoken and written languages, plus a detailed introductory chapter that establishes a framework for the multimodal investigation of im/politeness. The papers cover a range of languages and cultures, including Swiss German Sign Language, Catalan Sign Language, English (as a native language and as a lingua franca), Korean, Catalan, Persian, Japanese and Spanish. Using a range of data sources and state-of-the art methodologies, the papers reveal that these multimodal features are essential aspects of im/politeness across different languages, cultures and modes of interaction. Put together, the findings from these studies lay the groundwork for a new understanding of im/politeness which is fundamentally multimodal"--

    Kurzfassung: 'Anarchy and the Art of Listening' is an ethnography of politics as it is practiced on the other side of the spoken word, in the act of listening. James Slotta explores how people in the Yopno Valley of Papua New Guinea cultivate their listening to exercise power, shape their futures, and sustain their communities in the face of ambitious leaders and powerful outside institutions. As in many parts of the global south, missionaries, NGO workers, educators, mining companies, politicians, development experts, and others have sought to transform life in and around the Yopno Valley. But as this book makes clear, people there have not been a passive and pliable audience for these efforts. They have brought their skills as 'anarchic listeners' to these encounters, advancing political agendas of their own.

    Kurzfassung: "This book interrogates the patterns and discursive structures that have generated the seeming urgency of Muslims' integration. Focusing on Germany, it problematizes the grounds on which politics of integration are justified and reasoned upon, and thereby investigates divergent operations of power vis-à-vis Muslims and Islam in a formally liberal-secular society. The integration paradigm in Germany has been predicated on an imperial knowledge regime, in which Islam figures as the external friend or enemy of an imagined Christian secular. This book analyzes three kinds of integration practices as symptomatic sites for the multifaceted dimensions of power in this paradigm: the scientific measurement of Muslims' degrees of integration which are correlated with their degrees of religiosity; the politics of recognition promoted by state-organized dialogue with Muslims; and the threat of sanction, found in the regulations of citizenship and explicitly in citizenship tests. Centrally, the book argues that the paradigm of integration navigates between universalist claims and particularistic-racial and religious-reenactments of a secular nation-state framework at moments in which this very framework is crumbling."
