Does the biblical prohibition have any precedent or parallel in the ancient Near-East, or elsewhere? And how do the ways of representing gods and humans change in the absence of cultic images?     Abstract: Studies on the relation between language, identity and nation (building) represent a long tradition in linguistic, cultural and political research. In this interdisciplinary anthology, we focus on different aspects of how language is used to shape a nation; by retaining a national identity in the context of emigration, by measures taken to change an existing nation into a new one, by introducing a discourse designed to re-establish a putatively lost nation. Finally, we discuss how nation and identity are shaped in a modern multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural society. The anthology contains articles in English, French and German from political science, history, linguistics, literature and translatology and is written by researchers based in Finland, Greece, Norway and the United Kingdom.
    Abstract: Overall, I found the volume very interesting for various reasons. First, each contribution gives access to a complex context, being accessible without being simplistic. This facilitates international comparisons among the contexts described by contributors, as between these and readers’ research context background. Second, through its international scope, Language and Nation. Crossroads and Connections covers the various dimensions of how language may be linked to nation. Third, the detailed historical and national backgrounds enable to situate contemporary national identity issues. Fourth, the written attention to readers makes this volume accessible to a wide audience, from undergraduate students to senior scholars, and including the experts interesting in understanding nation and identity building in the concerned contexts. – Stéphanie Cassilde in: Language, Discourse & Society, 2(8)/2016

    Abstract: Dieses Jahrbuch des Frankreichzentrums verbindet zwei Schwerpunkte: Es befasst sich zum einen mit dem Zusammenhang von Europa und Literatur, zum anderen mit dem Verhältnis von Interkulturalität und Krieg.Der erste Teil fragt, wie der Text Europa den Ort Europa konstituiert - und umgekehrt. Die Beiträge thematisieren u.a. Deleuzes Konzept des Nomadischen, die Geokritik sowie Werke von Paul Valéry und Romain Gary.Der zweite Teil widmet sich aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive einer provokativen Frage: Sind Kriege Motor interkultureller Kommunikation und Verständigung?     Abstract: Systemvoraussetzungen: Internetzugang, Web-Browser, mobil: iOS und Android Übersetzung wird im vorliegenden Band verstanden als grundlegende Technik der Aneignung des Fremden. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Übertragung literarischer Texte von einer Sprache in eine andere. Das damit verbundene Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Fremdem und Eigenem wird an verschiedenen Fallbeispielen aus mehreren Literaturen untersucht, wobei der kreativen Aneignung besondere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Darüber hinaus werden Probleme des Kulturtransfers betrachtet ebenso wie die linguistische Transkription mündlicher Rede, die Übersetzung als poetologisches Prinzip am Beispiel der Gruppe Oulipo und schließlich das Übersetzungsverhältnis zwischen Musik und Text am Beispiel des Musiktheaters. Les auteurs de ce liver étudient la traduction en tant que technique fondamentale d'appropriation de l'autre. La transformation de textes littéraires d'une langue vers une autre constitue le principal centre d'intérêt, dont les différents aspects sont illustrés à travers des exemples littéraires en plusieurs langues. Une attention particulière sera portée à la réception créatrice. En outre, sont étudiés les problèmes du transfert culturel, ainsi que la transcription linguistique du discours oral, la traduction en tant que principe poétologique tel qu'il est utilisé par le groupe Oulipo, et finalment le rapport de traduction qui existe entre la musique et le texte dans le domaine du théâtre musical.

    Abstract: The transformations of our society place the onus on the teaching professions to acquire new skills to enable them to respond to the needs of a complex reality in constant evolution. This is why the Degree Course for Professional Educator has gone through ongoing radical changes over recent years, designed to synthesise the theoretical and practical dimensions.
