    Abstract: "What can people do with multiple languages that they cannot do with one? What kinds of practices does multilingualism enable and how does it shape communication in the digital sphere among young people? These questions have motivated the volume Multilingual Youth Practices in Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). This volume was inspired by some of the work now emerging in sociolinguistics on the multilingual digital practices of people in a globalizing world (e.g. Androutsopoulos 2015; Barton & Lee 2013; Danet & Herring 2007a; Deumert 2014a; Spilioti & Georgakopoulou 2015; Jones et al. 2015; Lee 2017; Thurlow & Mroczek 2011a). In contrast with these volumes however, the present work aims a spotlight on the multilingual practices of young people who have taken up the affordances of digital communication more fervently than any other age group (Beheshti & Large 2013; Buckingham & Willett 2013).     Abstract: With an eye to the playful, reflexive, self-conscious ways in which global youth engage with each other online, this volume analyzes user-generated data from these interactions to show how communication technologies and multilingual resources are deployed to project local as well as trans-local orientations. With examples from a range of multilingual settings, each author explores how youth exploit the creative, heteroglossic potential of their linguistic repertoires, from rudimentary attempts to engage with others in a second language to hybrid multilingual practices. Often, their linguistic, orthographic, and stylistic choices challenge linguistic purity and prescriptive correctness, yet, in other cases, their utterances constitute language policing, linking 'standardness' or 'correctness' to piety, trans-local affiliation, or national belonging. Written for advanced undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers in linguistics, applied linguistics, education and media and communication studies, this volume is a timely and readymade resource for researching online multilingualism with a range of methodologies and perspectives

Sie verweisen auf multiethnische Gesellschaften kolonialen Ursprungs und formulieren eine prominente - in Deutschland aber bislang kaum wahrgenommene - postkoloniale Kulturkritik der Globalisierung und Moderne. Die Beiträge in diesem Band, u.a. von Ottmar Ette, Françoise Vergès und Khal Torabully, prüfen die Anschlussfähigkeit von historischen und aktuellen Kreolisierungsprozessen für internationale und europäische Debatten.
    Abstract: Biographical note: Gesine Müller (PD Dr.) lehrt Romanistik an der Universität Potsdam und leitet dort die Nachwuchsforschergruppe »Transkoloniale Karibik« (DFG). Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Karibikforschung, lateinamerikanische Gegenwartsliteraturen sowie Transferforschung. Natascha Ueckmann (PD Dr.) lehrt Romanistik an der Universität Bremen. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Karibik- und Diasporaforschung, Postkoloniale Literatur- und Kulturtheorien, Literatur und Film, Gender Studies sowie Reiseliteratur. Sie ist eine der Sprecherinnen des Instituts für Postkoloniale und Transkulturelle Studien (INPUTS) der Universität Bremen.

    Abstract: Metropolen definieren sich durch ihre Wandlungsfähigkeit. Ausdrucksform ihrer transformierenden Kraft ist die Differenz von Selbst- und Fremdinszenierungen, die Ökonomie von gesellschaftlichen und gemeinschaftlichen Beziehungen ihrer Bewohner. Zu ihrer Selbstdarstellung bedürfen Metropolen der Anerkennung von außen. Angesichts der zunehmenden Bedeutung attraktiver Stadtbilder wenden sich immer mehr Stadtplaner, Marketingexperten und Politiker an Auftritts-Experten, die Architektur und Atmosphäre szenografisch zu vermitteln wissen.Welche Reibungen ergeben sich zwischen Eventmarketing und Stadtfunktionalität, zwischen »Hirn, Hand und Herz« - wie Fritz Langs programmatische Formel für die Inszenierung Metropolis lautete? Ob Darstellung und Selbstdarstellung den eigenen Bürgern oder Touristen zukommen, Inszenierungen von unten oder oben, Medienfassaden oder Street-Art das reale oder imaginierte Bild der Stadt bestimmen und von den Bewohnern akzeptiert, idealisiert oder verworfen werden - solchen Fragen gehen die Aufsätze auf allen Ebenen urbaner Ausdrucksform nach.Die Beiträge sind unter dem Eindruck des Kulturhauptstadtjahres RUHR.2010 entstanden. Aber nicht alle Aufsätze beziehen sich explizit auf dieses Event. Aus unterschiedlicher Perspektive, von Gestaltung und Architektur, Urbanistik, Kunst, Wissenschaft, Philosophie, werfen die Beiträge ein Schlaglicht auf die aktuellen szenografischen Strategien und Techniken der Inszenierung des urbanen Raums und tragen zur szenologischen Reflexion der Stadt als Ereignis bei.

    Description / Table of Contents: In Zeiten transkultureller Bewegungen erweist sich die Literatur, die sich aus verschiedenen Gründen nicht in nationale Grenzen einpassen lässt, als ein zentrales Untersuchungsfeld: Kulturelle Veränderungen, die durch Migration von Menschen, Ideen, Waren und Sprachen entstehen, lassen sich hier auf eine umfassende Weise analysieren. In aktuellen Fallstudien untersuchen die Beiträge dieses Bandes unter anderem kulturelle Grenzziehungen in muslimischen bzw. türkischen Gemeinschaften und setzen sich dabei mit dem neuen »Zwang zur Kultur« auseinander. Daran anschließend wird der Begriff »Weltliteratur« auf seine Brauchbarkeit in diesen Kontexten untersucht, insbesondere im Hinblick auf nicht-europäische, etwa afrikanische Repräsentationsmodelle von Literatur. Einzelanalysen von Filmen und literarischen Texten zeigen, dass die so genannte Migrationsliteratur eine ästhetische Reflexion auf kulturelle Integration einerseits, aber auch auf verschiedene Formen von sozialer, individueller und sprachlicher Desintegration andererseits ist. Der Band wird ergänzt durch zwei Interviews mit Ilja Trojanow und Feridun Zaimoglu
