Abstract:
From the crusades of George W. Bush, via the shrill attacks of the "Tea Party", to the populist mobilisation of Donald Trump: America's conservatives have the USA holding their breath. For many Europeans it is a disturbing phenomenon, because the combination of radical individualism, deep religiousness and hyper-patriotism hardly exists in this part of the world. This book traces the formation of a political movement that moved from the margins of the American political sphere to the centre - and ultimately questions the future of a party that was unable to prevent the advance of the outsider Donald Trump.

Von den Kreuzzügen des George W. Bush über die schrillen Attacken der »Tea Party« bis hin zur populistischen Mobilisierung Donald Trumps: Amerikas Konservative halten die USA in Atem. Für viele Europäer handelt es sich um ein verstörendes Phänomen, da die Kombination aus radikalem Individualismus, tiefer Religiosität und Hyperpatriotismus hierzulande in dieser Form kaum existiert. Das Buch zeichnet die Formierung einer politischen Bewegung nach, die vom Rande des politischen Geschehens in den letzten Jahrzehnten in das Zentrum der amerikanischen Politik gelangte - und fragt schließlich nach der Zukunft einer Partei, die den Vormarsch des Außenseiters Donald Trump nicht zu stoppen vermochte.
