    Kurzfassung: "The Routledge Handbook of Urban Food Governance is the first collection to reflect on and compile the currently dispersed histories, concepts and practices involved in the increasingly popular field of urban food governance. Unpacking the power of urban food governance and its capacity to affect lives through the transformation of cities and the global food system, the handbook is structured into five sections. The first section focuses on histories of urban food governance to trace the historical roots of current dynamics and provide an impetus for the critical lens on urban food governance threaded through the handbook. The second presents a broad overview of the different frames, theories and concepts that have informed urban food governance scholarship. Drawing on the previous sections, section three engages with the practice of urban food governance by analysing plans, policies and programmes implemented in different contexts. Section four presents current knowledge on how urban food governance involves different agencies that operate across scales and sectors. The final section asks key figures in this field what the future holds for urban food governance in midst of pressing societal and environmental challenges. Containing chapters written by emerging and established scholars, as well as practitioners, the handbook provides a state of the art, global, and diverse examination of the role of cities in delivering sustainable and secure food outcomes, as well as providing refreshed theoretical and practical tools to understand and transform urban food governance to enact more sustainable and just futures. Das Gift judenfeindlichen Denkens und Fühlens ist Teil unserer Kultur, und antisemitische Sprachgebrauchsmuster sind tief in unser kommunikatives Gedächtnis eingeschrieben. Auf diese Weise sorgen sprachliche Antisemitismen dafür, dass judenfeindliche Stereotype von Generation zu Generation weitergegeben werden. Der Band macht diesen Zusammenhang anhand authentischer Beispiele anschaulich und verständlich. Er deckt die toxischen Sprachstrukturen mit ihrer Wirkung auf das kollektive Bewusstsein auf und weist auf die dringende Notwendigkeit eines sensiblen und geschichtsbewussten Sprachgebrauchs hin.

    Kurzfassung: "This book interrogates the patterns and discursive structures that have generated the seeming urgency of Muslims' integration. Focusing on Germany, it problematizes the grounds on which politics of integration are justified and reasoned upon, and thereby investigates divergent operations of power vis-à-vis Muslims and Islam in a formally liberal-secular society. The integration paradigm in Germany has been predicated on an imperial knowledge regime, in which Islam figures as the external friend or enemy of an imagined Christian secular. This book analyzes three kinds of integration practices as symptomatic sites for the multifaceted dimensions of power in this paradigm: the scientific measurement of Muslims' degrees of integration which are correlated with their degrees of religiosity; the politics of recognition promoted by state-organized dialogue with Muslims; and the threat of sanction, found in the regulations of citizenship and explicitly in citizenship tests. Centrally, the book argues that the paradigm of integration navigates between universalist claims and particularistic-racial and religious-reenactments of a secular nation-state framework at moments in which this very framework is crumbling."

    Kurzfassung: African American Political Thought offers an unprecedented philosophical history of thinkers from the African American community and African diaspora who have addressed the central issues of political life: democracy, race, violence, liberation, solidarity, and mass political action. Melvin L. Rogers and Jack Turner have brought together leading scholars to reflect on individual intellectuals from the past four centuries, developing their list with an expansive approach to political expression. The collected essays consider such figures as Martin Delany, Ida B. Wells, W. E. B. Du Bois, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, and Audre Lorde, whose works are addressed by scholars such as Farah Jasmin Griffin, Robert Gooding-Williams, Michael Dawson, Nick Bromell, Neil Roberts, and Lawrie Balfour. While African American political thought is inextricable from the historical movement of American political thought, this volume stresses the individuality of Black thinkers, the transnational and diasporic consciousness, and how individual speakers and writers draw on various traditions simultaneously to broaden our conception of African American political ideas. This landmark volume gives us the opportunity to tap into the myriad and nuanced political theories central to Black life.     Kurzfassung: For the past decade, historian Dipesh Chakrabarty has been one of the most influential scholars addressing the meaning of climate change. Climate change, he argues, upends long-standing ideas of history, modernity, and globalization. The burden of The Climate of History in a Planetary Age is to grapple with what this means and to confront humanities scholars with ideas they have been reluctant to reconsider--from the changed nature of human agency to a new acceptance of universals. Chakrabarty argues that we must see ourselves from two perspectives at once: the planetary and the global. This distinction is central to Chakrabarty's work--the globe is a human-centric construction, while a planetary perspective intentionally decenters the human. Featuring wide-ranging excursions into historical and philosophical literatures, The Climate of History in a Planetary Age boldly considers how to frame the human condition in troubled times. As we open ourselves to the implications of the Anthropocene, few writers are as likely as Chakrabarty to shape our understanding of the best way forward

    Kurzfassung: In the early 2000s, mainstream international news outlets celebrated the growth of Weblogistan-the online and real-life transnational network of Iranian bloggers-and depicted it as a liberatory site that gave voice to Iranians. As Sima Shakhsari argues in Politics of Rightful Killing, the common assumptions of Weblogistan as a site of civil society consensus and resistance to state oppression belie its deep internal conflicts. While Weblogistan was an effective venue for some Iranians to "practice democracy," it served as a valuable site for the United States to surveil bloggers and express anti-Iranian sentiment and policies. At the same time, bloggers used the network to self-police and enforce gender and sexuality norms based on Western liberal values in ways that unwittingly undermined Weblogistan's claims of democratic participation. In this way, Weblogistan became a site of cybergovernmentality, where biopolitical security regimes disciplined and regulated populations. Analyzing online and off-line ethnography, Shakhsari provides an account of digital citizenship that raises questions about the internet's relationship to political engagement, militarism, and democracy

    Kurzfassung: Die Geschichte der europäischen Integration sieht man oft als ein reines Elitenprojekt an. Die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Mitgliedsländer der Europäischen Gemeinschaft und der Europäischen Union erscheinen daran als unbeteiligt und desinteressiert. Doch dieses Urteil trügt: Sie hatten oft nur andere, eigenständige Vorstellungen vom Zusammenwachsen Europas als die politischen Entscheider. Sie nahmen zudem, vor allem seit den 1980er-Jahren, über Wahlen, Referenden, Interessengruppen, Beschwerden, Eingaben und Klagen aktiv Einfluss auf Europa. Sie erlebten Perioden des Vertrauens in die europäischen Institutionen, aber auch Phasen des Misstrauens. Auf der Basis von bisher kaum ausgewerteten Quellen zeichnet Hartmut Kaelbles Buch ein neues Bild der Vorstellungen und der Partizipation der Bürgerinnen und Bürger der EU im historischen Wandel.

    Kurzfassung: Anhand ausgewählter Bilder und Objekte diskutiert dieser Band zentrale Fragen zur Geschichte der Rassenkonstruktion und Rasseideologie. Gemeinsam mit Autorinnen und Autoren aus Forschung und Bildungspraxis beleuchtet das Kuratorenteam die geopolitische Dimension des Rassismus während des Kolonialismus und setzt sich mit der Rolle des Deutschen Hygiene-Museums in der NS-Rassenpropaganda auseinander. Im Kontext aktueller Fluchtbewegungen betrachten sie die Nachwirkungen des kolonialen Zeitalters und zeigen, welche Dynamik in einer sozial und kulturell vielfältigen Gesellschaft steckt. Im Zentrum vieler Beiträge steht die Frage, inwieweit die unbedachte Reproduktion rassistischer Bilder in Wissenschaft, Politik und Alltag - oder auch in Ausstellungen - zu ihrer anhaltenden Wirkungsmacht beiträgt? Wäre es nicht konsequent, solche Bilder gar nicht erst zu zeigen? Ab wann ist ein Gegenstand rassistisch? Trifft das bereits auf die Darstellung der körperlichen Unterschiede von Menschen zu? Gibt es ganz andere, noch nie gesehene Gegenbilder?

    Kurzfassung: Die Geschichte der Verschwörungstheorie ist auch eine Geschichte der Medien. Im Fokus der Studie von John David Seidler steht nicht die Frage nach der Rolle von technischen Verbreitungsmedien, sondern die Reflexion über Medien als Gegenstand von Verschwörungstheorien selbst. Er zeigt: Massenmedien sind nicht erst seit der Re-Popularisierung des Slogans von der »Lügenpresse« zentraler Verdachtsgegenstand verschwörungstheoretischer Erzählungen. Unter Rückgriff auf die Verdachtstheorie des Medienphilosophen Boris Groys analysiert die Studie anhand historischer Konjunkturen moderner Verschwörungstheorien im deutschsprachigen Raum erstmals systematisch Geschichte und Funktion der verschwörungstheoretischen Rede über Medien seit dem 18.     Kurzfassung: Modernity, Minority, and the Public Sphere: Jews and Christians in the Middle East explores the many facets associated with the questions of modernity and minority in the context of religious communities in the Middle East by focusing on inter-communal dialogues and identity construction among the Jewish and Christian communities of the Middle East and paying special attention to the concept of space. This volume draws examples of these issues from experiences in the public sphere such as education, public performance, and political engagement discussing how religious communities were perceived and how they perceived themselves. Based on the conference proceedings from the 2013 conference at Leiden University entitled Common Ground? Changing Interpretations of Public Space in the Middle East among Jews, Christians and Muslims in the 19th and 20th Century this volume presents a variety of cases of minority engagement in Middle Eastern society.

    Kurzfassung: Das Prinzip der Trennung von Religion und Politik, das längst als Standardantwort auf die Frage nach der Legitimität der religionspolitischen Ordnung im demokratischen Verfassungsstaat gilt, wird in dieser Studie einer kritischen Überprüfung unterzogen.Ahmet Cavuldak rekonstruiert die Entstehungsgeschichte der religionspolitischen Ordnungen Frankreichs, der USA und Deutschlands entlang der wichtigsten Schwellenepochen und Aushandlungsprozesse. Anhand der Werke von Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Alexis de Tocqueville und Jürgen Habermas stellt er drei »exemplarische« Antworten auf die Frage nach dem rechten Verhältnis von Religion und Politik in der Demokratie vor. Diese ideengeschichtliche Auseinandersetzung mündet in eine systematische Diskussion der zur Rechtfertigung der Trennung von Religion und Politik genannten Gründe.Schließlich wird die Frage aufgeworfen, ob - und wenn ja, inwiefern - die religionspolitischen Lernprozesse des europäischen, lateinchristlich geprägten Erfahrungsraumes auf andere Regionen und Religionen der Welt übertragen werden können

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Der Generationenvergleich in diesem Buch stellt anhand qualitativer Interviews mit Vertretern der Geburtsjahre 1930 bis 1988 ostdeutsche Selbstwahrnehmungen dar. Dies geschieht im Hinblick auf ihre generationellen Eigenheiten in den Einstellungen zur DDR und Wiedervereinigung, in der alltagskulturellen Sicht auf DDR und BRD und in der Selbst- und Fremdwahrnehmung. Dabei zeigt sich, dass Aufbau-, Integrierte, Distanzierte und Wendekinder-Generation je typische Wege gefunden haben, zwischen früher und heute zu vermitteln. Im Zentrum stehen generationstypische Narrative und Erzählstrategien, mit denen die spannungsreichen Identitäten konstruiert und die DDR-geprägten Selbstbilder gegenüber den Transformationsanforderungen abgeschirmt oder anschlussfähig gehalten bzw. miteinander vermischt werden

    Kurzfassung: Im Mainstream der Beteiligungsforschung fungiert das brasilianische Porto Alegre als ein gelungenes Modell partizipativer Kommunalpolitik. Die Bezeichnung ?Stadt der Demokratie" pragt das Image dieser Stadt, die oft in Verbindung mit dem Verfahren des Burgerhaushaltes untersucht wird. Doch Rogerio R. Mororo prasentiert ein ganz anderes Bild von Porto Alegre. Er kommt in seiner Analyse zu den Ergebnissen, dass direkte Burgerbeteiligung in Porto Alegre bislang zwar zu mehr Legitimation politischer Entscheidungsfindungen beigetragen hat, jedoch nicht zu Veranderungen bestehender Machtstrukturen und ebenso wenig zur spurbaren Minderung von Missstanden wie krassen raumlichen und sozialen Disparitaten in der lokalen Gesellschaft. Diese Tatsache wird jedoch von einem demokratischen Mythos verklart.

    Kurzfassung: Main description: »Gemeinschaft« ist 'in': Inmitten einer allgegenwärtigen Krise kollektiver Subjektivierungen ist eine paradoxe Renaissance von Anrufungen des Begriffs der »Gemeinschaft« zu verzeichnen. Juliane Spitta nähert sich dem Begriff der politischen Gemeinschaft aus theoretischer und kulturhistorischer Warte. Im Kontext aktueller Debatten thematisiert sie die ambivalente Wirkungsmacht der Gemeinschaft im politischen Imaginären, analysiert Geschichte und biopolitische Bedeutung - von Hobbes über die Romantik bis zur Gegenwart - und diskutiert Perspektiven einer Philosophie der Gemeinschaft jenseits von sehnsüchtig-romantischem Identitätsdenken und völkischer Erbauung
