    Abstract: Comment les soins donnés et reçus au domicile des personnes « démentes » (malades d'Alzheimer et de troubles apparentés) sont-ils vécus par celles-ci, les proches et les professionnelles qui en prennent soin ? Quelles formes prend leur expérience, selon la diversité des configurations soignantes ? Quelle portée politique a-t-elle ? Qu'est-ce qui la favorise ? Pour répondre à ces questions, l'auteure a mené une enquête ethnographique durant sept années au domicile de personnes « démentes », dans des centres de soins de jours et dans des collectifs en dehors du face à face quotidien. Dans la première partie de l'ouvrage, les récits issus de l'enquête suivent le fil du soin, la fragilité de celles et ceux qu'il relie, le temps qu'il exige et qui parfois permet d'accorder personnes soignantes et soignées. Par une présence de longue durée au domicile, le nombre et la variété des situations suivies, une attention sensible aux personnes malades, plus difficiles à rejoindre, l'auteure donne accès à l'expérience du soin de tou·te·s ses protagonistes. Elle élabore à partir d'elle les questions morales et politiques qui sont en jeu, trop peu présentes dans nos espaces publics, en s'inspirant de l'approche pragmatiste de J.Dewey. Dans la seconde partie du livre, l'enquête se poursuit dans des lieux permettant une élaboration morale et politique du soin à ses protagonistes : réunions de professionnel·le·s sous différentes formes, temps de parole et de formation offertes par des associations du champ spirituel à des bénévoles et des soignant·e·s ou groupe de travail politique des personnes malades elles-mêmes. Dans quelle mesure ces espaces favorisent-ils la contribution de chacun·e aux soins donnés et reçus, soutenant ainsi le développement d'un soin démocratique ?     Abstract: La position particulière de l'art vidéo - inscrit dans l'art, partageant une même technique avec d'autres domaines, tout en reposant sur des spécificités fortes, contemporain mais déjà dépassé - en fait un terrain idéal pour ausculter la narration de l'art, et plus largement sa construction sociale. Ce livre propose de considérer les catalogues et les affiches d'exposition, les articles, les dépliants, les documents de travail ou encore la correspondance comme moteurs de la formation d'un art. Usant d'un appareil conceptuel alliant sociologie de la connaissance, sociologie de l'art et histoire de l'art, il s'arrête sur les deux premières expositions muséales d'art vidéo en France et en Suisse afin d'en fournir la première étude approfondie. Les discours que ces manifestations ont produits font l'objet d'une lecture rapprochée afin de faire ressortir les termes employés, les champs lexicaux formés, les stratégies discursives élaborées pour expliquer et justifier la tenue d'une exposition de vidéos dans un musée municipal. Dans un second temps, le propos aborde les contextes de production de ces discours et le rôle joué par les institutions et les auteur-e-s impliqué-e-s dans chaque exposition. La mise en commun d'une analyse de texte et d'une étude de contexte permet de dégager les modalités de construction discursive de l'art vidéo en tant que catégorie de l'art contemporain. La (re)découverte de textes sources des années 1970 permet en outre de préciser et compléter l'histoire de l'art contemporain

The book presents the complex dynamics of transformations within the new urban settings of post-war Juba. At that time the city was characterised by extremely harsh living conditions, harsh even for post-war South Sudan. Despite the difficulties, the city's development was visible.     Abstract: The book is an analysis of Greek Hellenistic literature with the help of conceptual tools of cultural studies and media theory. Designs of Blackness provides less a narrative literary history than, precisely, a series of mappings-each literary-critical and comparative while at the same time offering cultural and historical context. This carefully re-edited version of the 1998 publication opens with an estimation of earliest African American voice in the names of Phillis Wheatley and her contemporaries. It then takes up the huge span of autobiography from Frederick Douglass through to Maya Angelou. "Harlem on My Mind," which follows, sets out the literary contours of America's premier black city. Womanism, Alice Walker's presiding term, is given full due in an analysis of fiction from Harriet E. Wilson to Toni Morrison. Richard Wright is approached not as some regulation "realist" but as a more inward, at times near-surreal, author. Decadology has its risks but the 1940s has rarely been approached as a unique era of war and peace and especially in African American texts. Beat Generation work usually adheres to Ginsberg and Kerouac, but black Beat writing invites its own chapter in the names of Amiri Baraka, Ted Joans and Bob Kaufman. The 1960s has long become a mythic change-decade, and in few greater respects than as a black theatre both of the stage and politics.     Abstract: What is the broadest significance of musical rhythm? Human attitudes to the world are reflected in it, according to Gustav Becking. Writing in the 1920s, Becking proposed a novel method of finding systematic differences of attitude between individual composers, between nations, and between historical time periods. He dealt throughout with Western classical music, from the period approximately 1600-1900. His method was to observe in fine detail the pattern of motion and pressure traced out by a small baton allowed to move in sympathy with a given musical excerpt. The various patterns arising for individual composers were represented graphically, and in that form became known as «Becking curves». Implications were touched upon in psychology, sociology and philosophy. His thesis is now published in English translation from the original German for the first time, with many annotations

    Abstract: The artist Francis Bacon (1909-1992) and the writer Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) both convey in their work a sense of foreboding and confinement in bleak, ritualistic spaces. This book identifies many similarities between the spaces and activities they evoke and the initiatory practices of fraternal orders and secret societies that were an integral part of the social landscape of the Ireland experienced by both men during childhood. Many of these Irish societies modelled their ritual structures and symbolism on the Masonic Order. Freemasons use the term 'spurious Freemasonry' to designate those rituals not sanctioned by the Grand Lodge. The Masonic author Albert Mackey argues that the spurious forms were those derived from the various cult practices of the classical world and describes these initiatory practices as 'a course of severe and arduous trials'.
