    Abstract: Auf dem umzäunten Tanzplatz des Dorfes Doi Muse findet am zweiten Neujahrstag eine Tanzveranstaltung statt: Die Mädchen bilden mit Zweier-, Dreier-, Vierer- oder Fünferreihen einen inneren Kreis, während die Männer in einer Kette den äußeren Kreis bilden. Der Tanz wird abwechselnd von einem Mundorgel- oder einem Lautenspieler angeführt.
    Abstract: The dance takes place on a fenced-in dance-floor in the centre of which is a slight rise. In rows of two, three, four or five, the girls form an inner circle whilst the men form a chain as the outer circle. The dance, in anti-clockwise direction, is led alternatively by a mouth-organ or lute player.

    Abstract: Ein Schmied aus Ban Meo Mai richtet eine Silberplatte durch Hämmern, Schneiden und Feilen zu. Dann verziert er die Vorderseite durch Punzen mit geometrischen Mustern, bohrt zwei Löcher in die oberen Ecken und fügt die Platte mit einer Silberkette und einem -halsring zu einem Schmuckgehänge zusammen.
    Abstract: A smith prepares a silver plate by hammering, cutting, and filing. He then decorates the front by punching a geomtrical decoration. He thereupon bores a hole in each of the two upper corners and, adding a silver chain and a silver neck-ring, produces a pendant.

    Abstract: Ein Schmied aus Ban Meo Mai schmilzt Silber in einem tönernen Schmelztiegel und gießt es zu einem Barren, den er zu einem dünnen Stab aushämmert und einem Zieheisen zu Draht auszieht. Dann dreht er ihn auf einer Eisenwinde zu einer Spirale und schlägt diese mit einem Meißel zu kleinen Silberringen auf, die er zu einer Kette zusammenfügt.
    Abstract: A smith pours silver from a clay crucible; he then hammers out the resulting ingot into a thin rod which he draws into wire by means of a wire-drawing plate. He then gives it a spiral form by turning it on an iron windlass. This spiral is divided by means of a chisel into small silver rings which are linked together to form a chain.

    Abstract: Festlich gekleidete Mädchen und Jungen in Huye Luang führen anläßlich der Neujahrsfeierlichkeiten verschiedene zeremonielle Spiele auf. Während der Spiele kündigt ein Mann das Neujahr durch einen Schuß aus einer Steinschloßflinte an.
    Abstract: During the new year festivities the ceremonial ball game of the young men and the maidens is played in the village square. The partners form two lines facing each other, throw rag-balls from one line to the other, and accompany the game with recitations and songs. Nearby, the younger boys play the badmintom game, in the course of which feathered missiles of bamboo are batted to and fro with wooden raquets. In a different part of the village several boys are playing the "top-spinning game". During these games, the new year is heralded by a man shooting a flint-look musket.

    Abstract: Aus einem etwa 4 m langen dunkelblauen Turbantuch, dessen Enden mit Kreuzstickereien verziert sind, bindet der Dorfvorstand aus Huye Luang am Neujahrstag einen Turban. Seine Ohren bleiben dabei unbedeckt.
    Abstract: The turban-cloth is rolled out and measured out by spreading the arms so that both embroidered ends lie on one another when it is bound. The turban is then wound in the traditional manner.
