    Abstract: Am Beispiel von The Wire wird ermittelt, über welche Kompetenzen zur Analyse komplexer gesellschaftlicher und kultureller Zusammenhänge Populärkultur verfügt. Ästhetik, Fiktion, Dokumentation, Dramaturgie und Kritik werden in The Wire zu einem Bild urbaner, neoliberaler bis postdemokratischer Realität einer krisenhaften Gegenwart verwoben. Der Band fragt nach dem diagnostischen Potential (zeitgenössischer) Populärkultur allgemein und spezifisch nach den Kompetenzen einer Serie wie The Wire an der Schnittstelle zwischen kulturellem Mainstream und Nobilitierungssegment.
