    Abstract: This article presents two separate experiences in doing research inside detention centers that are located in two Italian cities. The aim of the article is to discuss how the use of a video camera as a research tool can influence the research context in a situation openly and deeply marked by impotence and disempowerment. Our argument is that besides giving the inmates an instrument to communicate beyond the prison, the use of visual media exacerbates specific aspects that according to the existing literature often occur when doing fieldwork in confinement spaces.

    Abstract: "What happens to African migrants once granted political refugee status? In Turin, a northern Italian city, an abandoned clinic has been squatted by more than 200 refugees since December 2008. Khaled, Shukri and Ali have been travelling through hell in order to arrive in Italy. They crossed the border and are determined to have a normal life. Their hopes are dashed and they find their lives "suspended." The film follows their stories over the years, showing life in the clinic, including the inevitable internal problems, the protests of citizenship and the initiatives of the city. Through the cold winter and unbearably sultry August, until the evacuation of the former clinic by the city authorities and the transfer of refugees to old barracks. Three emblematic characters guide us through a story that reveals, intimately, a collective history, an emblematic tale of all European countries today and their respective immigration policies and the changes occurring in the social fabric of European cities."--Original container.

    Abstract: The film depicts the daily struggle of fishermen to earn a living in a harsh physical environment that brings out the social and economic tensions of modern society. Manning the Priamo are Cola, the captain, Ahmed, the Tunisian first mate, two Italian engineers, and two Tunisian seamen. At sea for three weeks at a time, they fish off the coasts of Libya and Tunisia, sometimes outside the fishing limits and risking interception by the authorities. An intimate account of remoteness: after a few days on shore, the men leave their homes and families for a month. Night and day the nets are cast every four hours; the work is demanding and poorly paid; the quarters are cramped and uncomfortable; conflicts and prejudices surface amidst the roar of the engines and the sea. Beyond the horizon lies Africa, where immigrants embark for Europe, leaving their homes and families behind in the hope of finding a better life.
