Abstract: Late classical author of Greek expression, Phlegon of Tralles was recognized for centuries, through his work. Most of the books of the emperor Hadrian's freedman are currently lost, with the exception of some fragments and sections of On Marvels, On Long-Lived Persons and the Olympiads. It could be just another legacy to add to so many others. However, the writing of Flégon is enriching, preserving oriental notes; the cultural assimilation undertaken by the Roman military dominators; the experience and the value of pagan traditional elements in a Judeo-Christian paradigm which in some cases demonstrates the misappropriation and misuse of some statements made by the Historian from Tralles. The themes can simply be understood as light issues of popular taste, marked by the exploration of grotesque and astonishing themes. However, a distinct exegesis will provide the elevation of Phlegon's opuscula, as enigmatic containers of social realities maintaining an up-to-date character

Abstract: Trinummus is another fabula palliata by Plautus. Enriched by the art of the Latin author, the result was too tedious and very elitist, compared to what usually characterized the Plautine comic. Through stock characters of fixed social types (e.g. the old, the Young, the slaves), several cultural themes are analyzed, such as friendship, morality, loyalty, money. Thus, the senex Charmides, whose assets were in danger because of the conduct of his son, Lesbonicus, leaves Athens. Meanwhile, his young son and daughter were trusted to his friend Callicles, as well as his house. Secretly, Callicles told Charmides about the treasure buried in his home. However, Charmides was in a dilemma, between keeping the secret of his friend and avoiding the dissolute spirit of Lesbonicus. Using his father’s journey to his own profit, the youngster put the house for sale. Therefore, Callicles felt the moral obligation of purchasing it. Lisiteles involuntarily made the situation worse, because of his intention to marry Lesbonicus’ sister. The proposal required a dowry, which constituted a problem to Lesbonicus and to Callicles. This senior, wrongly judged both socially (cf. Megaronides), and privately (cf. Charmides, who had returned from his trip), was finally thanked and praised, when all the facts were acknowledged

Abstract: The Love Stories of Parthenius is the only wholly extant work of this author. This selection of Hellenistic prose includes 36 short mythological stories dedicated to the poet Cornelius Gallus. This valuable example illustrates the influence of Greek Mythography in late Republican and Augustan Rome. The mythological and pseudo-historical stories on the subject of love suffering (Erotica Pathemata) are presented as summarized sentimental episodes extracted from several Greek authors, generally acknowledged by Parthenius. Other themes such as hospitality, betrayal, secrecy, suicide, romantic love and sexual passion, incest, pedophilia, same-sex desire or necrophilia are also discussed
