Abstract: The proposal of Mesoamerica as a Mesoamerican culture, made by Paul Kirchhoff in 1943, quickly became a paradigm for much of the Mexican anthropologists, especially in a program for officials and the INAH researchers, newly founded in 1939. While increased investigations under the mesoamericanist canon, archaeology is confined to an old tradition whose premises are located in the old Creole nationalism, trend that dominated the 19th century, and continues with the nationalism of the Mexican Revolution. They soon began to define other theoretical trends, in the archaeology, Ethnology and social anthropology, which have no place in the official program; with this it opens an intense discussion. In the last third of the last twentieth century rage criticisms and a highly controversial can be configured. The essays that make up the first part of this book have as benchmark central discussions of the mesoamericanist field and open new perspectives to an already old dispute. On the other hand, a relatively recent development in the history of science is research on the social, political and economic conditions in which it operates the main body of anthropology in Mexico and 33125014674879their theoretical and scientific networks. Largely, contrary to the history official dominant and their mythologies different, is raise new looks to old themes that it constitute. To this is dedicated the second part of this volume. Both parties are interlaced, undoubtedly at different levels. The starting point is, as indicated in the foreword, the Conference organized by the Seminario de Historia, Filosofía y Sociología de la Antropología Mexicana en el Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas of the UNAMK in November 2008
